General reminder when continuity testing:
DISCONNECT BATTERY or DE-ENERGIZE THE CIRCUIT BEFORE MAKING ANY TESTS!
Touch the CT probes to each end of the wire. If it lights up or beeps, that means the wire or connection is intact. Wherever it stops doing that, that's where the problem likely is.
Figured it might be Impala Jim fighting this. Tell him good luck and hope that SS decides to work right again!

He does have a continuity tester as well. And your suggestions are the next path he will take to hopefully resolve things…

Glenn, I have forwarded all of this information to Impala Jim (whom you’ve met at Spring Carlisle, and I believe at Sprint Charlotte, several years ago). He does have a test light and will proceed from here.

Ok, my friend put in an NOS ignition switch, and STILL nothing. I am thinking it has to be a wiring issue between there and the starter. It does start right away with the remote starting device…

Leaving for Hershey Monday morning; will spend the next three days walking the swap meet, and then will bring my 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire Coupe to the show field first thing Friday morning, taking part in the best car show anywhere!

My friend bought an NOS one still in the box. Paid $$ on eBay.

To Rodney and everyone else; it does appear that we have the problem narrowed down to the ignition switch itself, and one is on the way. I will keep everyone posted, and thanks for the responses!

Thanks for all of the responses; I have passed them along. The Impala SS has gauges, not warning lights, and the neutral safety switch is located beside the console shifter. The ignition switch is a plug.

To clarify: Nothing happens when he turns the key. He can start the car 50 times in a row, and then, nothing. No cranking over. Not a fuel issue. Not an air issue. Turn the key, and nothing.

Yes on all three counts. Car starts and runs almost every time. Almost.

Moving this back to the top; let’s refocus this on any local road construction issues, and perhaps any recommendations for dining, particularly in the evening after a day of walking the miles and miles of swap meet area. Thanks again for any information…

Asking for a friend, who has been having intermittent starting issues for well over a year now with his 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Coupe. Thus far, he has replaced the battery, starter solenoid, ignition switch, and most recently, the neutral safety switch for his console shifter, to no avail. Every time, he has thought the problem has been solved, but even changing out the NSS most recently, at this moment, he cannot even get the vehicle started. He has checked all connections and terminals.
Where to go from here? Thanks for your responses in advance.

Thanks for all of the updates. Keeping my fingers crossed that these suckers stay away from Fall Hershey. A friend of mine who lives about 20 miles from there says he’s only seen one so far; however, they must be all over the Pittsburgh area, as I’ve seen three memes regarding their plentitude over there. Supposedly they’re supposed to be in Ohio as well, but I have yet to see a one of them where I live (Canton area)…

Don’t know if this is too broad of a topic, and I don’t want this to go off-course and have this potentially become negative in any way, but for people like me, who are coming to the Hershey area in October, from hundreds or even thousands of miles away, it is always good for us to know ahead of time if there is anything that we need to be aware of, that may be different from the last time we visited a year ago.
Primarily, my interests in obtaining information are (but not limited to) recommendations of any new or existing restaurants in the area, any places to stay (hotels, campgrounds, etc.), and if there is any road construction going on in the area, or on highways and roadways leading into town.
Admin(s), feel free to modify this thread as necessary if it should be narrowed down in scope.

Just received my SASE in the mail today, confirming my registration for the car show and the banquet, so I am good to go! Will be headed for Chocolate Town exactly two months from today—get that countdown clock rolling!

As I submit this, the 2023 Fall Hershey Car Show is exactly three months away!
As a courtesy, I had not seen anyone post at this particular forum anything about this yet, so I figured I would mention that, at the AACA website
( https://AACA.org/ ), the link for event registration to the Eastern Fall Meet became available several days ago, and as soon as I returned from vacation, I printed out my registration, wrote the check, and enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope to receive confirmation. The registration deadline is the usual August 15th.
Shouldn’t be long until we see the “countdown clock” being posted!

I don’t know if this is appropriate; if not, please delete and advise. But it is a legitimate topic of discussion, as it was on nearly everyone’s mind (and of concern) last October at the Fall Hershey event.
Good Lord willing, I will be 60 by the time Fall Hershey arrives this year, but in all of my 59 previous years, I had never heard of, much less seen, these nuisance moths or whatever that are called “lantern flies” until last fall. And these pains in the rear ends were EVERYWHERE—including on the show field, to the extent that I had to keep my windows up on my car and my trunk and hood closed the entire day, following judging. It wasn’t even five minutes until my vehicle was judged when someone looking at my car noticed one of them on the carpet in front of my front seat. They were all over the swap meet area as well.
I am not posting this to discourage or scare anyone off from attending, but seeing as we have several months before the big show, perhaps some preventive action can be taken to reduce or eliminate this not so small nuisance.
I just want for everyone to be able to enjoy the wonderful event we all know and love without this being the topic on everyone’s mind this fall.
Again, if this is being addressed, let us know, and if it not appropriate to discuss here, at least the word has been spoken and action can be taken. Thank you.

The remote starter is a hand-held device that allows for someone to start the car while working in the engine compartment, and is not near the actual dashboard to try to turn the key at the ignition. It is not some sort of aftermarket frivolity doo-dad…
