  1. 54 Mercury/Ford...Need to know machined angle on head intake ports.Heads have been machined .030 and i need to compensate for this by milling the 54 Merc 4v intake manifold which i am using on my 239 Yblock. Am now getting manifold leaks. Best information i have is that the angle is 100 or 115 degrees and the machining multiply factor is either 1.2 or 1.4 Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Dom Scalza
  2. Looking for intake manifold off of a 54 Mercury 256 engine.Currently using 55 Ford 4v intake which is not completely compatible[largerports]with my 54 239 Ford. Dom Scalza 908-925-4613
  3. Thanks for getting back. What about the positive to negative ground conversion? New distributors require negative ground.
  4. Would like to run a modern distributor such as MSD or MALLORY on my 54 Ford Yblock which is 6v positive ground. Does anyone know of any company that produces a Converter Box 6volt pos/12volt neg? Thanks in advance of any help. Dom Scalza.

  10. Jeff, Thanks for the information.Do you have any idea why the original distributor does not work with the 4brl intake? It does not work on full manifold vacuum{too much advance}.It does run, although not well,on timed vacuum.Edelbrock carb has both vacuum ports. Thanks again.Hope you have the answers. Dom
  11. Have converted to 4brl intake{from 56 Ford}on 54 239 Yblk. Looking for recommendation on best distributor to use to upgrade from stock. Stock distributor does not work well with 4brl operation. Dont know why but its been suggested that a later distributor will perform better, years 57 thru 74 with drive gear and oil pump change.Any information will be greatly appreciated. [color:"red"]
  12. Have upgraded to 56 4brl intake. Now looking for specific recommendation on best distributor to use to replace stock 54. Its been suggested that 57 thru 74 will work with drive gear and oil pump change. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Dom [color:"red"]
  13. Given a 54 Ford 239v8 with a 56 4brl intake/Edelbrock 500cfm carb.Problem is full vacuum advance with stock distributor will not work.Excessive advance at idle stalls engine.Cannot find an alternate distributor from any manufacturer for this engine. Will a 56 Ford distributor[dual diaphram for use with 4brl] or a 57 work? Suggestions? Thanks for any help. Dom. Note: Runs on timed vacuum but i would prefer full vacuum which i believe would be better.
