  1. Find a complete history here, including why the name was changed from Rollston to Rollson.
  2. I think I am going to pass on this McLaughlin, but the car appears to be very different from the 1919 Buick I looked at last week. It has conventional semi-elliptic springs in back, and the engine has a separate starter and generator.
  3. The depends. Sometimes you can get away with just putting a length of chain or a hand full of gravel in the tank and shaking it around. I recently dealt with a tank for my father that had been sitting for six years with old gas in it, and we had to cut open the sides and sand blast the interior before coating it.
  4. I always use waterless coolant in my Franklin
  5. Napa has them for $14.59 6V Headlight
  6. Looking for a Series 9 or 10 Touring in drivable condition. Does anyone have one or know of one that may be for sale?
  7. Is a 1918 LcLaughlin identical to a Buick, or are there differences?
  8. How is the starter/generator driven on a 1919 Buick six? Is it by a chain? Does it start the engine through the chain, or does it engage through a ring gear?
  9. I believe that Apple Hydraulics can rebuild them for you.
  10. A common cause of shimmy is an out of balance tire. It's an easy thing to fix too. Other than that, it could be something loose in the front end. Check your king pins and steering for looseness.
  11. I put a 6V Optima battery in my Franklin this year. I never had any problems with the 6V system or its performance, but the cost of the conventional 6V lead/acid battery finally climbed high enough to where the Optima was only a few bucks more. That, combined with Optima's claim of double the lifespan of conventional batteries, made me buy one. I've only been running it for one season, but I will say this, the car now cranks faster, charges at a higher amperage, and the lights are brighter. I was only getting 4-5 years out of a lead/acid battery, as is expected. If the Optima lasts even two years longer, it's well worth it. Also, the Optima only weighs 18 lbs. I don't sell Optimas, nor do I have stock in the company. It's just a great product for antique cars.
  12. Model A water pumps are only $75 brand new.
  13. I remember my grandfather doing something crude but effective. The generator wasn't charging, so he removed the band that covered the commutator, and while the engine was running, stuck his finger wrapped in emery paper into the commutator. It immediately started charging. Crude and probably not too safe. BTW, I agree with the others, any auto electric shop or motor shop can do this for you very cheaply.
  14. No solenoid on a Chevy 490. Did you check all your cables and connections?
  15. That's easy, have a draftsman create the drawing using a CAD program from the part. Most of the stereolithography machines I have seen only work in plastic though.
  16. I may be wrong, but wouldn't a radio in 1924 cost about as much, if not more, than a Chevrolet?
  17. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: BrookridgeFarms</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I bought em </div></div> Just curious, what do you plan to put them on, if anything?
  18. What is involved with buying a car in Canada and bringing it home?
  19. I drove the '23 Buick today. It's a very tight, low mileage, original car. A lot of fun to drive. Unfortunately, the paint and upholstery are too far deteriorated to preserve. If we were to drive this car, it would need at least paint and upholstery. I don't want another project. We are going to see a 1919 Buick six also. Is this engine the same engine used up through 1931? Is the six a considerable larger car? Or is it a similar car with a longer hood?
  20. I think the Hershey region has a group of guys that train all year long to replicate that voice and learn how to say "vee-hickle."
  21. Does anyone out there have one of these, or at least have a good background knowledge of them? I am looking at one for sale, and have some questions about this model.
  22. Does a 1923 Buick Four have a conventional disc clutch, or a cone clutch? Should I care?
  23. Not Leno's Toronado. Here's his engine.
