  1. Looking at selling my Packard but would rather trade it for a late forties/early 50's truck. So if you have $4500 or a truck in similar condition, I'd love to talk. I'd even consider paying a little extra for the truck if the Packard doesn't meet the specific trade desires. 1956 Packard Clipper Executive Running, registered CA, insured, licence - 1956 california plates, 4 door, 352, ultramatic tranny, new Coker whitewall tires, sound body, original everything, torsion suspension. Email for pics and to discuss vehicle. Jon brainfrz at sbcglobal dot com
  2. Email George Beck at beck1584@astound.net he should know. Jon
  3. Hey Packard Gurus, My heater box is leaking pretty bad. What is the best way to remove this heater box lid, what will I find inside and what could be leaking? Is there a heat exchanger coil set that might be leaking. My manual didn't say anything about the insides or how to get inside (a number of screws around the exterior). Any thoughts or comments would be helpful. Thanks so much. It leaks from the seam. see picture
  4. What is the part number for that Bushing? Thanks for the names, Steele has a great website. Jon
  5. Hey everyone, I need bushings! The attached picture is of the front sway arm bushing location (no bushing found) I have the torsion ride suspension on my 1956 Clipper custom 4d. Where is the best location to buy new suspension bushings for any locations on the car? Kanter? Can anyone send me the parts manual pic with this bushing number noted? Any help would be great. It makes a terrible noise when I go over bumps. Jon

    I love my Packard

Took mine out twice over the last two weekends. Once up to the Blackhawk museum in Danville, CA and once for a slow cruise through the back country of SJ down to Morgan Hill and Back. The second trip was fun b/c it was the first rip with the whole family!! My two young girls and my wife joined me. We cruised through the south county hills and just enjoyed the lovely CA weather and the bumps and rattles of an old car! the picture I attached is of one of the other cars that made the trek. But you can see my Packard in the background. My camera ran out of juice before I could get a decent pic. Roll down the windows and go for a drive!! Jon
  7. I have a 56 Clipper and would like a grill. Does anyone have one for sale. Broken ones will be considered. Thanks. Jon I'm in SJ, CA for shipping thoughts
  8. I have the manual and will look into the Xref when I get home. I'll come in the morning when I have some time to work and pull the wheel off. The previous owner was suppose to have had a complete brake job, of course that was 2 years ago and it sat not moving that whole time. Its funning, at a local car gathering last night, my friend and I were scheduling a brake bleed at his house just to make sure the fluid was good. Now I'll be checking a whole lot more. Thanks for the help. How do you check the fluid level in the master cylinder? Its located in such a horrible position. I've considered the new master cylinder upgrade and have Craig's website bookmarked. Jon
  9. Thats what I thought. Thanks for the reassure. Could the hose have just popped? I'm gonna go out an look again. Can parts be sourced from a local shop or good (old school) Parts shop? If so any part numbers handy? Jon
  10. here's another closeup shot of behind the wheel. Jon
  11. I drove into work this morning and during the drive I had one hard stop. After that as I drove, Smoke started to come out from under the engine bay. When I drove, no smoke but at each stop, lots of smoke. I arrived at work and waited till the sun came up( I start early). This is the picture of what I see. Question: can I drive it home (8 miles)? Can I have a local fix-it shop fix it fast, or is this a complete tear down issue? What should I look for to help determine the severity? Jon
  12. Schematic on radio/speaker combo would be great. My first question is the wires from the radio to speaker/power supply, what are the three terminals for on the plug? Jon
  13. Thanks for the initial thoughts. I was wondering about fusing the link during bench testing and you confirmed my thought process. It seems that the hands move freely when I manually rotate the clock. I will look at the areas you suggested. Thanks. Jon
  14. Hey all, Been working on my 1956 Clipper model 5662. I replaced the clock fuse but I'm still not getting any movement. Is there any bench testing that can be done to see if the clock is still in working order? Question 2: The radio illuminates but there is no sound. I assume the speaker power supply is burnt, how would I test this on the bench also? Cruised on the freeway for the first time today - nice ride at 65-70mph. No issues at all. Thanks Jon
  15. Thanks for posting the links to Carl's "New" version of old Packard designs. Thats really cool that someone was able to take the old drawings and make a full car out of them. Sounds like customizing to me. the true art of customizing is taking what you see and making improvements to the Style, lines, or features to improve from stock. I'm sure a lot of cool styled cars from all the makers ended up on the cutting room floor or the back vault due to the perception of "General Public" desires. Jon
