  1. 1958 Buick Estate Wagon: The motor is back and most everything is going together very nicely. Except the throttle linkages. In the manual it show a "bit" that connects the equalizer shaft going down to the lower lever that connects to the gas pedal. I appear to be missing this piece. Does it bolt to something? Does anyone have any pictures of what the whole hook up looks like? Does anyone have an extra "whatever I'm missing" part? Willing to buy it. I'm also missing the downdraft tube from the engine (was never there). Look forward to any help on this one. Cheers Michael.
  2. I'll grab a bit of everything on the way home tonight (more likely Friday) and experiment on the weekend. Thanks for the tips! Cheers. Michael.
  3. Did you ever find the ribbed Lino? On my 58 Buick Estate Wagon I am going with the ribbed rubberized matting cut to the various shapes as I could not source the lino. Look forward to your thoughts/experience. Cheers. Michael.
  4. I'll try some Sure Wipe on a test piece. I don't think there is even linoleum glue anymore but I'll check. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll report back after the tests. Cheers. Michael
  5. The Estate Wagon is coming along nicely. The rear wheel tubs were nicely covered by Trevor Brown Upholstery in Edmonton (yes, they kept patterns). Now the main cargo area. Does anyone have any experience in gluing down the rubber matting to the various cargo and seat areas? I tried weather-strip glue but it would not stick. Thoughts? Cheers. Michael.
  6. Thanks for the advice. I guess if the steering column is black, then the wheel needs to be black. This is also what Mr. 58 recommended. But my daughter also thinks the steering wheel in white would be great. Argh, something to think about fairly quickly. Like you, Rob, I do think the white would be nice though. Cheers. Michael.
  7. I am going to have the steering wheel in my 1958 Buick Estate Wagon redone. It was originally black/dark-blue. Would it be incorrect if it were redone in white or ivory? Everything is original on this car but a white steering wheel would certainly make the interior pop. Thoughts? Cheers. Michael.
  8. And here are a couple of shots of the installed headliner. Now to work on the covers for the rear cargo wheel tubs and we're even closer! Cheers. Michael.
  9. I finally had some time this weekend so I jumped (walked) in to the installation of the headliner. Piece number one just snapped in place. The next piece (second from the tailgate) needed to be steamed. I put it face up on two apple boxes about 24 inches off the table. I then draped both ends with 6 mil poly creating a bit of a tent on the ends that would need steaming. Then the kettle went in the tent. As it steamed I slowly pulled on each end to get them moving. It's best to steam both ends at the same time. After about 30 minutes they were pliable. I pulled the plastic off and dove into the wagon. They fit perfectly and the strips supplied by Mr. Hooker snapped right into place. So, two in, three to go. Cheers. Michael.
  10. Dear Rob: They look great sitting in the box. I think a little steam like Pete said and they should (should) just pop in. If you're looking for the cloth headliner material, I have a roll of it as well. At the house this weekend if you need a beer. Cheers. Michael.
  11. Dear Gary: They might be the same as the 58 Buick. If you search "1958 Buick Headliner" and then search the thread for Dan; he makes them. Cheers. Michael
  12. Dear Pete: I finally have some time to try and put the headliner in from REM and the bows from Dan. Did you have to steam the edges at all before putting them in? Cheers. Michael.
  13. The company is REM Automotive, Mike Miller is the contact, 717-838-4242 in Annville PA. Cheers. Michael.
  14. Never mind. Seems the rack is not for a Buick wagon. But it is brand new out of chroming! Looks great, but not right. It only has two legs on each side and the front is a V-shape. So, still looking for a roof rack. Cheers. Michael.
  15. I have a set of roof and liftgate stainless, the spears, in pretty good condition. Also the stainless that goes on before the roof rails (I think it is for a wagon). If interested, send me an email. Cheers. Michael.
  16. Dear Pete: After almost a year of looking, I finally found a supplier of the original headliner material. I have sent my old ones to Mike at REM Automotive in PA. He is going to cut new ones for me and keep a pattern on file for others who have the Buick or Olds wagons. Cheers. Michael.
  17. Ah, the headliner. I am on that now. I finally ended up making my own stainless clips for the rear quarter windows so now we can move on to the headliner. I too have the perforated headliner for the Estate Wagon. Mine are complete but totally warped in places and very soft. I don't think rewrapping them will do much good to take out the warp. What does everyone think of adding newer hardboard to the underside of the pieces and then adding the new material? Would that take the warp/wow out? Cheers. Michael.
  18. My 1958 Buick Estate Wagon had a roof rack as an option. I found one. I was wondering if anyone has a specificiations/installation sheet on exactly where and how it is attached? Or just from memory if you have done it before ... or with a ruler if you have one on your car. Cheers. Michael.

  20. If you are still looking for a vacuum canister, you can have mine; just shipping. I am upgrading to an external vacuum pump because of the added disc brake system. Let me know. Cheers. Michael.
  21. I have a 58 wagon and am wondering how to bend the fuzzies to the contour of the rear doors. Any thoughts? Cheers. Michael.
  22. Dear All: I found B&H Plating 780-485-1482 here in Edmonton. I asked about the '58 Silver Cad process and they said bring 'em down. They'll be ready next week. Fortunately, all of my fender and special bolts all came out in one piece with the round and square washers. Looking forward, Bob, to seeing your Buick on Friday. I'm bringing a camera. Cheers. Michael.
  23. Dear Rob McDonald/Edmonton and my old email friend Dan from Denver: Just found this link. Mine is a 58 Buick Estate wagon that Dan is aware of. I am assuming that 57/58 were very similiar. I too am in the same quandry about the colour of the bolts in the engine compartment. If silver/zinc, is there an off the shelf paint or can I go to Carlsons Auto Body Supply and give them a pantone/name to match? I'd love to move on and start getting the rest of the engine fire wall done ... then onto final painting. Oh, also wondering: is there a gasket between the brake MC and the large piece that fits to the firewall? A wack of close ups of the engine compartment would be appreciated. Dan: Photos of my 49 Merc are on my Facebook site if you'd care to peek. Rob: Any chance of connecting so I can see what a Buick in Edmonton looks like in person? Look forward to any advise. Cheers. Michael.
  24. I am putting my 58 Buick Estate Wagon back together, finally. I am trying to find out what colour the fender bolts, the hood bolts should be? I've heard cadmium, silver, and plain steel with clear coat. Any thoughts? Cheers. Michael.
  25. Well, the 58 wagon is going back together. I'm stuck on the colour of the bolts: the fender bolts, those that hold the hood hinge to the body, those that hold the tail gate on. Any thoughts? I've heard cadmium as well as silver/zinc. Look forward to any ideas.
