  1. Can someone tell me where the proper brake fluid level should be on a 61 Chrysler with power brakes? Currently, the level on mine is approximately 1" below the rim. Thanks
  2. My 361 is worn out and I am looking for a replacement. A rebuildable short block would be my second choice. Thanks Ray
  3. What is the difference between an "HC" and "HP" designation on a Mopar big block? I know what the acronyms stand for but I don't know the exact differences in these engines. Is there a difference in: compression? cams? valve train? Thanks
  4. I am looking at a 383 that supposedly came from a 66 Sport Fury. Is there anyway to determine if it is the higher compression 4bbl engine by casting numbers, etc? If this is not possible, can I pull a head and easily determine the compression ratio - dish, flat vs domed, etc? Thanks
  5. I have late 60s/early 70s slotted road wheels on my Chrysler. The wheel bolts I have are not very attractive. Does anyone know where to find chrome metal snap on caps for the 3/4" bolts or the more costly option of finding LH and RH chrome bolts? What did these wheels have originally for wheel bolts? Thanks
  6. These parts were taken from a "driver" with 65,00 miles. We pulled engine for a Cutlass project. Bumper has jack dents. $200 for all or make an offer on individual parts. Shipping/packaging will be actual cost based on your preferred method. I can provide more images if required.
  7. The Canadian brochures included the Saratoga. Thanks Ray rbohn61@comcast.net
  8. I stopped at 4 different parts houses yesterday, including NAPA, and none of them knew what I was talking about regarding motor oils with sufficient Zinc content. It seems as if I am training them everytime I visit to buy something.
  9. I found 3 holes on each side of the frame that match up perfectly with front brackets for a sway bar. I found the bolt-on brackets from a 63 Chrysler at a salvage yard this weekend. The bolts that were installed have extremely fine thread. It appears that the mounting holes in my frame do not have threads. Does anyone know if these bolts are self tapping and if so, how do I make them work? I now have accumulated the bar, all the hardware, brackets and bushing to install, but I am stumped regarding these bolts. Thanks
  10. Has anyone found a good source for 60s windlace. I am looking for blue with the plastic weave material. Thanks,
  11. 61 tank listed on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1961-CHRY...sspagenameZWDVW Have you found one yet? Ray
  12. http://www.classiccarautoparts.com/gastanks_dodge_plym.html These folks seem to have a lot of older mopar tanks to choose from. See page 2 for 70 Plymouth.
  13. Here is the link to the complete post. If you are not checking Forwardlook.net on a regular basis, you are missing the chance to talk to another group of knowlegeable people when it comes to 55-61 mopar (the site is less formal/sane than this one). http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums...tmode=1#M105320 I am not sure if you can email the author of the post without registering on the site. Let me know if you have difficulty.
  14. This was posted on Forwardlook.net Posted 2007-11-30 12:12 PM (#105307) Subject: 61 chrysler fuel tank " The fuel tank was bad on my 61 newport conv. I thought it looked familiar, so I tried a tank from a 70 satelite and it fit perfectly. They are availiable new and less expensive than one for the 61. Hope this helps someone. "
  15. I found this on the ForwardLook site http://www.forwardlook.net/sitestore/paint.htm >>>> Aluminum Silver ("Firepower Silver") 12 oz The correct silver engine paint for many Forward Look MoPars is still available from your local MoPar parts counter. I can't find anyone who sells this online, but if you find someone let me know and I'll list them here. Ask for P4529148, Aluminum Silver at your MoPar parts counter<<<<
  16. Can someone tell me what Mopar changed on the 361 between 1960 and 1961 to reduce the compression ratio from 10:1 to 9:1? I want to rebuild my 1961, but increase the compression ratio to equal the earlier engines. I have talked to suppliers of rebuild kits and they are telling me that there is no difference in the kits for 59-61. They were surprised to hear that there was a difference in compression. Heads, pistons, combination, etc. ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ray
  17. Based on what I found on the Imperial site about 4 years ago, I was able to find a transistor at Radio Shack and a capacitor at a local TV/Electronics repair shop . The total came to less than $10.00.
  18. Now that I have new upholstery, I am putting the car back together. I put all the bolts from the front seat in a bag, but now that I look at them, I am not sure how they are used or if they are the proper fastners(should have taken notes). There are 4 bolts, 2 large standard-looking nuts, and 2 nuts attached off-center to square metal plates. Should I have 4 nuts/metal plates? It appears as if the front adjusting holes/slots are the same as the rears, so why not the same fastners? Are the off-center plates suppose to be used in a different orientation for each position in the slots, ie, nut at the bottom of the plate for for a lower seat setting. etc? Any help would be appreciated. This was cut and pasted from a post that I submitted on another website - sorry about the format. Ray
  19. Thanks. The site looks as if it may have everything show up sooner or later.
  20. I am trying to help a friend find a passenger side rear wheel trim piece. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray
  21. I just did the math on 14" vs 15" tires. If you are open to newer tires, a 235/70-15 is only 1.3% larger than an original 800x14 tire, based on circumference. I would assume that our speedometers have much more variance than 1.3%.
