    '31 Wiring Loom

Would you be referring to Rhode Island Wire http://www.riwire.com/? They supplied me with a wiring harness for my 1947 Super Clipper and I was very pleased with doing business with them.
  3. I do not think 1.3 inch qualifies a a Wide White Wall. Three and a half is more like it. I know. I looked the 41 Ford over tonight at Cruise Night and they look OK on a short wheelbase Ford coupe but on a long dark blue Packard they would look very skinny. I may have to rethink this? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
  4. tbirdman, Thanks. Do they require a tube? I've heard/read that a tube isn't required on these Packard wheels but it might be a good idea.
  5. Randy and Albert, A local dealer sells these Broadway Classics and for about 1/3 the price of the WW radials by Canadian Coker dealer in B.C. or Alberta who quoted me $290 each +shipping!! I've heard good things about the Diamondbacks as well and I remember your hassle over the Cokers here and that is what is scaring me about them. A friend of mine who has a 41 Ford bought a set of these B.C.'s for about $110 each and loves them so far but has only driven the car locally for a couple of hundred miles. I would like to get some feedback before I buy them from someone who has had them longer than a couple of months. Albert, I guess I could just slap on a set of old Crappy tire Mud and Snows since it will probably be snowing here in a month and they would be better than what's on the car now but a Packard deserves better. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I would love to do Hershey once in my lifetime.
  6. I am considering buying a set of tires with the brand name "Broadway Classics". They are a radial wide whitewall tire and seem to be reasonably priced. Has anyone any experience they would share or advice that they can give me regarding this brand before I spend the money to purchase a set?

Any one else who doesn't like it now including Clipper47, can kiss my Royal, white, red neck American pooper. </div></div> Thanks for editing the post; I appreciate it. No thanks on the other offer! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I have kicked hundreds of butts (figuratively speaking) including plenty of "Royal, white redneck"" American ones but didn't kiss any that I can recall. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
  8. In Canada we use the phrase "Lest We Forget" solely on Remembrance Day, November 11 to remember those who sacrificed there lives for their country. Those words have a meaning which are sacred and I can't imagine using the phrase to refer to a long forgotten AACA Forum thread.
  9. I would look for a grounded wire somewhere between the tank sender and the gauge.
  10. I would like to purchase a socket or wrench to remove the nuts from a set of Trippe lights (Juniors) . If anyone has such a tool which they wish to sell please contact me or leave a message here. If anyone knows of a more generic tool which works I would appreciate that information also.

    The Cormorant ?

As an Ontario Conservation Officer in the early 1970's I was stationed in the Lake Erie area. I remember first seeing cormorants nesting on some gravelly shoals near Pelee island. Now we have them in abundance all over the province. I think a recent study of in Ontario indicates that the cormorants effect on game fish species is not significant. Pressure from angler groups is forcing the province to do some reduction of the species numbers by various methods as mentioned by West. In the far east they are used to catch fish!

  13. As the saying goes "More money than brains" I suspect.
  14. What are the symptoms? If the car cannot be driven in reverse it possibly means that the overdrive solenoid is not disengaging and the overdrive is stuck. If on the other hand the car does move in reverse when the dash knob is pushed and shifts into O/D in forward gears it is working properly. The reverse cut-out if on your car is a safety switch to prevent the car being moved in reverse if the solenoid is engaged.
  15. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">When I go into OD I lose reverse. Any suggestions as to why??? </div></div> Zeffer1940 is right. There is probably a cut out switch attached to the reverse gear linkage to disengage the overdrive solenoid when you go into reverse. The units are not designed to operate in reverse and damage will occur if it is attempted. I own a Packard not a Lincoln but I believe they both use the Borg-Warner O/D unit.

    Coil wire question

You could fill the bowl by removing the big brass cap on the top of the carb. There should be a brass mesh screen under there which can be removed for cleaning and the passage for the gas to go into the carb bowl should be obvious.
  17. I need a working fuel gauge for a 1947 Packard. Please PM me with price.
  18. Welcome to the world of Packard. I have been interested in Packards since I was about 10 years old and that was 52 years ago! My grandfather owned a 1928 Packard roadster and he loved Packards. They are great cars and the company has a facinating history. In their day they were among the fastest cars on the road. My 1947 can easily top 100mph. All three speeds of the 50's were column shift. Some had overdrive so you might say that there were 4 speeds.
  19. Mark,My '47 was running in a similar manner after i bought it. It was slow to start and then would chug and blow smoke until it warmed up a bit and then it would run fine. I installed new points, condenser and wires and while it helped start quicker it still needed that warm up time to get all eight running. I rebuilt the carb and adjusted it by the book and installed a rebuilt fuel pump since the original was very low pressure it runs so smoothly now that I can start out right from cold without a miss. I would also make sure that the manifold heat is working since I find that my car is sensitive about that working correctly also. My guess is that the carb adjustments particularly the choke was the most critical to getting it too run smoooth from a cold start.
  20. The base is no problem for a glass shop. Iv'e done it myself and I'm not a glass expert by any means. Good luck.
  21. Take it out and any good glass shop should be able to cut you a new one.
  22. My 47 Super Clipper has a drain plug on the tank also. I wonder when they stopped putting them on the tanks?
  23. Actually it was edited by B.R.Kimes and was written by a number of different authors.
  24. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">For those that are not regular subscribers to Hemmings Classic Car, there is a very nice article in this month's issue of a 1946 Super Clipper. Lots of good pics and complete coverage of the features and quirks. Also a little history of the Clipper line. I never realized that these cars got 16-21 mpg. All and all a very nice article. </div></div> Kev, Thanks for the heads up on that as I own a 1947. I will try and get a copy of the magazine. On a recent 400 mile trip I averaged between 14 and 17mpg (US gallon) in my Super Clipper but the car hasn't been highway driven at all in the past 50 years so maybe it will get better with more driving. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

    Engine Paint

I just used the Bill Hirsch green paint on everything on the engine with no primer including the timing cover and it stays on with no problem. Great paint in my opinion.
