  1. Hello. Thanks, I ordered one from Andy Bernbaum. Have done alot of business with him over the past couple of years. Like DodgeKCL said the car ran OK, but no acceleration or top end speed. Now for my next question. What is the cylinder bore and stroke distance of my master cylinder? Thanks
  2. I just read my manual, and it says to set timing with the vac adv connected. BTW. the car is a 39 Ply straight 6. My manual says " At low idle speed, the timing pointer should line up with the specified mark on the crankshaft pulley. When the throttle is opened wide, the mark on the pulley will advance about 10 degrees when the speed is about 25 mph. If the trrottle is then closed to maintain this speed, the mark will advance about another 10 degrees". I take it from this that the vac adv is connected during timing. I only ask this question because my 66 mustang is timed withe the vac off. Thanks
  3. Hello. Could someone tell me if timing is set with the vacuum advance connected or dissconnected? Thanks
  4. Hello, I have a 39 P-8, and am having issues with my vac advance. It is trash. I looked at my dizzy and the number that I can read is IGS-4103A-1. Is this the correct distributer? Secondly, where can I find a vac advance? Thanks.
  5. Hello, I'm having a miserable time trying to remove a mainshaft rear bearing oil seal from my 39 Ply trans. I've tried a seal puller, heat, hammer etc. So far I have bent the lip of the seal with no result. I can' get to the back side of the seal. Can I deform it enought to get it out without damaging the trans, or use visegrips to grab the lip? Not much room with the trans mainshaft still in place. Thanks
  6. Hello, I have a 39, and the point gap is .020", the spark plug gap is .025", and the dweel is 38 degrees. This should be the same for your 40.
  7. Hello; I have a 201 cid L head six. I live at 9000' and want to get a little more horsepower. The car came with a one size lean jet, oil bath filter etc. I changed the muffler to a modern type, and have a K&N air filter. I think this combo will give more air, but the jet might be too small. Can i drill a larger hole in the jet, and in what increments would this be? Any help would be helpful. Thanks
  8. was wondering if running straight distilled water in a 39 Ply with a rust inhibator will lower the running temp of the car? Right now it runs a little hot, but I want to see if this is a solution vs, water pump, head gasket, radiator etc? Also, what is a rust inhibator, and where is it found? Thanks
  9. Hey thanks for the info. The car is a 39 Plymouth, and yes the master cylinder is under the floor. Any company or site you could reccomend? Thanks
  10. Hi. Thanks for the info. I just found a switch from Watsons Streetworks for $22 bucks. It says it is universal for pre 60 cars. Anyone used or heard about this product?
  11. Was wondering if there is a "kit" for changing the brake lite switch from hydraulic to brake pedal actual motion. I seem to have to push the brake pedal very hard to activate the switch. This concerns me since I would like the brakes lite to operate sooner for the people behind me. I would think there would be a mechanical swith that would be activated when the brake pedal is first applied. Any ideas? Thanks
  12. Hi. I did everything that was listed, but had to remove and clean the fuel pump, and also the oil pump. Both were full of crud that didn't get to the oil screen. After that all is workin ok. I hope.
  13. Is it worth the effort, not withstanding saftey issues, to try to reline brake shoes with rivets myself? Have never done this before, but have read various articles ie. rivet size, rivet tools etc. Or is it better to send the shoes out to be done professionaly ?
  14. Thanks. You are correct, the engine is still in the car, and have recently rebuilt the radiator. I think I will try your recommendation and flush. The only problem is that the fuel system is inoperatable at this time. Am thinking of using a drill mounted liquid pump to circulate the water and then flush. By the way the engine is a straight 6 [39 Plymouth] Thank you for your response.
