Thank you sir!

Hello,
What day of the Nationals will be the best for seeing Buicks? What's the best car show day?...I'll probably only come down for one of the days, and I just wanted to know which one is best. Thanks!

Ed...that's me to a tee. I'm never going to win any awards, and I don't care to either. I just LOVE seeing all the cars...I love EVERYTHING...GMs, Fords, Chryslers, Independents, foreign makes...it never gets old. So I guess I'm not there to mingle...I start looking around, and when I'm done, I pack up the car and leave. For many, it is about the "camaraderie," but I've always been about the machines. Maybe I AM weird.

There are seals inside the oil pump to keep oil out of the pump area. If these are bad, the oil will bleed past these drain holes. Many leak a little even if the car has a newer pump. If the engine has a ton of blowby it will be worse...get a fuel pump rebuild kit or a rebuilt fuel pump and you should be OK...they don't make new pumps for straight 8s... Good luck!

I think you'll find the gas volatility problem is your problem. I tied the exhaust heat riser shut (so no heat to the carb) and lowered my float about 1/8 inch. It helped but it still starts hard hot. Not 15 minutes, but it takes 3-10 seconds to start sometimes.

There was a guy from Wisconsin back in '03 that showed his unbelievable '49 Riv at Meadowbrook. It was a maroon color. I don't remember his name but it was gorgeous...maybe look back in the programs if possible...

Hey all,
I need a new master cylinder in my '53 Special. I rekitted mine and honed it out 3 years ago but it's leaking out the rear seal again...anybody have a good experience anywhere? Anybody have a local machine shop hone and sleeve theirs? Any help is, as always, appreciated...

The '53 Dynaflow had a 3.6...

Agreed...maybe a crack in the head? Head gasket? Have you checked for bubbling in the anti-freeze? Is it running cleanly? Any missing or very white plugs?

Hello,
I just got a new thermostatic spring and anti-rattle spring for the exhaust manifold heat valve on my '53 Special. I'm missing the anti-rattle spring bracket that bolts to the exhaust flange...anybody have one laying around that they can measure for me? I can easily fabricate one, I'd just like to know the size of it. Thanks!

I'm always curious about the cars he highlights; they're usually not my taste. Spend a little less time on them, and maybe get 7 or 8 into an episode!
-
A show in Flint, and no Buicks were highlighted?

Does one have to register to be a spectator? I don't want to show any of my cars, just look at the rest. I'll bring one of them though...

Mine is a 7-90A or B (I'm going from memory at this point). It's stamped on the lid near the airhorn...

I'm 30, but my memories are of my no exhaust '65 Mustang my Mom gave me when I was 11 (total rust bucket then--still have it, and I've put 72,000 miles on it since then). I was changing oil and tires on it when I was 12. I learned rudimentary metal fabrication when I was 14...I also listened to the AM oldies station at that age. Now I have 4 old cars and a 1920s house and bicycles from the 1960s. I guess I'm a little out of place in my time, like most of us here...

I'm jealous of both of you right now.

I also questioned the Toronado over the '66 Riviera...Don't get me wrong, I think Toros are great-looking cars and I'd love to own one, but the Riv really is a beautiful car...they should have just classified the Riv under '63-'67.

When I got the issue, I questioned the Nissan 300ZX and the BMW 3.0...nice looking cars, but top 25?

If I'm not mistaken, wouldn't this be a Dynaflow car? In that case, you remove the inspection cover for the flywheel. There are 3 bolts that hold the flywheel to the torque converter. If you remove the little plate behind the inspection cover that has 4 bolts, you can have access to the back of the bolt so you can remove the flywheel to torque converter nuts. To disconnect the bellhousing from the engine, there should be 6 bolts (there were on my '53, but it's a 263). The two toward the top were hard to get; I used a ratcheting and swiveling box end wrench. Good luck...these are all for a '53 263...if there are differences with a '49 320, somebody please correct me.

I LOVE Rivs...the fact that I don't own one is a crime. However, I saw the concept in person today, and I hated it. NEXT!

There are several places to send them out for repair...I got mine at Bob's Automobilia...I think there may be one at the Buick Farm, but it may have been for a straight 8...
-
It seems like the car I most want to own but have never been in the right place or time to was a '63 Riviera, preferably in silver with a silver interior. Except for that one, I loooooove my '53 Special. I've had a strange attraction to early '50s Buicks since I first visited Sloan Museum when I was about 11 or 12. I just love the smell of them (kind of weird).

My '65 Corvair! Maybe my uncle's John Deere 730 with a hand clutch...

I've had pretty good luck with Egge...but you could also try Kanter or Terrill Machine in Texas. Egge is right in California...

Good advice above...When I bought mine I had to clean all of the sockets out very well, but that wouldn't cause the brake light problem...the only thing is that the brake lights light up the outer 4 lights...
