  1. Don't look for the market to fall too much on ACD products - and there are already plenty of newbie's in our club and it is absolutely fantastic (we have incredibly active and age diverse membership). Also, the cars rarely change hands outside of the Club as not too hard to raise your hand and get top dollar. Interestingly, there are not too many cars put in our club newsletter or website either - it tends to be a knowing people thing and asking around. That said, I assume the current state of the market will drive out into the open some optimistic projects and .... This 1932 was advertised on the Club website, was endoreed by poster, and sounds to be a good car (it popped up on eBay this week too). It's drawbacks appear to be wooden wheels with rear mount spare and no rumbleseat https://www.ebay.com/itm/1932-Auburn/184369347345
  2. Let me see, I needed X part for the Auburn and had 3 of which none were what I wanted in quality, then bought 2 x more for an arm and a leg of which both are just so-so (they came up in same do, so bough both as could not take the chance of ...), and then a 3rd one shows up for pennies (of which I know own that too), plus when the one came up I had to buy a bunch of other stuff of their to get them out of the parts business post sale of their car to get it. And, then there is that part out for a crack weld (nonstructural in the sence that any quality repair will be fine) and then the saga of .... Then, today there was a note of a friend who says he spent 50K on his car in the last three months and cannot figure out what he spent it on (well, I know 1/5 of it, but as to the rest, the car was pretty close to done prior so ....). Yesterday, I had a friends water pump in my hand for their Master Buick (1925) and have no clue how they made the shaft in the first place - he has been working on that project for 15 years now and now also owns pump after pump, but all have same issue (my solution which I said 100 times over was just weld it up and maybe it will last a couple 1000 miles, but otherwise it is a complicated casting and machining processes of which he cannot afford, but if he had done it 15 years ago he would have a running car and had not spent decent money on the other bad pumps). Plus, once he has it out and running people will be more willing to help him. And, then there is another 40 Lincoln Continental Convertible that needs to go away and will have an earful of people wanting to pay 50 cents on the dollar matched to a really ugly base model X that is 100 point, but probably should have never been restored to begin with as it is an ugly base model X. Moral of the Story - Ed, I hear you loud and clear.
  3. That is all I know of - there are some wreck photos of Frank Lloyd Wright's L-29 Phaeton but will leave that to someone else (as mentioned - just depressing photos).
  4. It is not uncommon that coupes were converted to convertibles via some rusted out convertible donor car, but the clue probably is to look for the heavier beefing of the X frame and then to make sure you have matching numbers to data plate, plate states it is a convertible by numbers, proper frame number, detective work via looking at welding and construction, quality of work such as welding, and .... - comments above state more photos needed and the answer is YES. And, often someone buys something and takes the few needed parts they want and puts it back on marketplace (aka someone needed some top parts to finish their project) or the chrome plater looses them, or they get broken and never picked up from machinist/welder, someone cannot finishes their project and/or looses parts, or .... Perhaps you can get a build sheet through the General Motors Archives. And, there are probably some serial number decoders out on internet for Buick matched to a lot of really knowledgeable people.
  5. Some of the photos are glass plate negatives too and digitized in ways that allow you to enlarge and see what color a bolt is or ... (so I suspect they could help someone with a restoration via little details). Yesterday, I for example was looking at what a non-accident photo and for fun of it enlarged the tire valve stem cap for an L-29 Cord.

  15. Notice there is an Auburn Phaeton behind the wrecked Cord Phaeton
  16. That would be a shame for this Coupe to bite the dust, but that is also what it may come down to. If you get something that looks like a parts car as a parts car for the plaidside that is close to a parts car, then you will still be short the quality parts you need to turn out an exceptional end product. For Example: is a Packard 12 sedan bumming around on ebay and it is what is needed to get a few pieces of rare diecast, a great steering wheel, great instruments, and ... for a convertible - AND IT IS REALLY NOT THAT BAD OF A CAR IT JUST HAS ALL THE WRONG ECONOMICS ASSOCIATED WITH IT, but anything even slightly worse and it would be a serious waste of .... Basically, you will need a pretty nice car to get a finished product to be even remotely cost effective. eBay item number: 274420205993
  17. Brian Charles I was hoping I could get some help identifying this car in the photos below. The photos are of New England landscape artist Robert Strong Woodward sometime in the 1920s. Brian Charles Curator for the Woodward Estate Replies: Studebaker Light 6 1921-23 Circa 1922 Studebaker EJ Light Six roadster. 1923 or 1924 Studebaker Model EM Light Six Three Passenger Roadster. There is no way to distinguish between those two years with the photos you have though. The reason it is not a 1922 (or earlier) is that the cowl lamps are set into the windshield frame
  18. There really is no substitute for the original photos - the detail is usually phenomenal (hopefully this brings some attention to how significant they are and hopefully someone steps up to the plate). Sidenote: I think the wheels on the L-29 Phaeton were for sale on ebay within the past few years - hopefully that car survives.
