  1. A best friend story: Did a corner too fast and lost control of the VW beetle and flipped it onto roof - then in uprighting it flipped it back upright - across the undamaged side.
  2. Spent a day tracking down electrical gremlins to find that under a magnifying glass that every light bulb seemingly looked fine but had a broken filliment.
  3. This car survives too (or at least the body survives if it was ever transplanted)
  4. There were two cars in the parking garage (and at one time a third - a Bugatti)- A Duesenberg Town Car now owned by Jay Leno and a 1930 RRPI Newmarket Convertible Sedan. I tried to buy the Newmarket from the owner and we could not come to terms on price and I tried to buy the Newmarket again from the parking garage and could not come to terms on price (The RR had an aluminum cylinder head and I was well aware of that saga - matched being kind of crusty having been sitting since the 1950's via a recommissioned to attend an early AACA event). What was fun was the owner knew other people like himself who had RR cars (including another original family owned PI) stashed away within walking distance. At the time John DeCampi was helping me find a RR, but the contact came much more close via a friend who's mom was a long time headliner at the Tropicana (I just casually mentioned one day and he said: "Oh, let me get you the owner's phone number from my address book"). This is the Rolls Royce: https://www.gullwingmotorcars.com/1930-rolls-royce-phantom-i-convertible-sedan-c-980.htm It sold a number of times: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21223/lot/523/
  5. Yes, this car survived (and was always kept in excellent conditon too) - it looks pretty much the same today other than it is dark grey solid paint color and the dual cowl has been removed
  6. Black One-Shot sign painters enamel and an artist brush - every kid knows how to connet the dots albeit some are more artistic than others
  7. Ed, i just did a quick internet search and posted what I found interesting. I do think I kept a photo copy of the installation instruction sheet and perhaps that is dated (I bought several NOS sets eons ago and had original boxes and ... - one of dad's friends grandfather was a saleperson to dealerships). Dan Sommers also should have a collection of paper regarding. I may have a photo copy of 1930 Cadillac Accessory Brochure (that pictures a single lamp), plus a 1931 (that shows a double lamp) and 1932 shows double too. THE BROCHURES ARE from the collection of Joe Cimoch WWW.DODGEPOWERWAGON.COM
  8. So often cars like this get "restored" to either do not really come out right or never really get done. I lean toward get it running and driveable, do light cosmetics, and enjoy - and once you have master the prior then move to the next level (or possibly still do not and beat yourself up in some other way). I see so many automobiles that are years of lost enjoyment (ex. the Auburn I am doing now has been apart since the late 1960's and really would have been fine as is - the desire to paint it shiny caused more harm than good over multiple owners and ...).
  9. Seemed like we needed to start a data dump and get some of this all into one place.
  10. Maybe I should mention here what dad says when someone wants a Cord. Being out in an Auburn raises more Cord questions than Auburn questions. There is a reason we have the Auburn - it is a fine automobile that tours well. That said, a wonderful friend bought an Auburn as mine is so "dependable" - what he did not realize was the time the car gets spent on it in the garage so that you may see it publicly without issue. So, what does dad say when someone asks about Cord Ownership ? I would like to own a Cord: Question 1: Are you an Engineer ? If Yes, we are good to go and if No, then on to question 2. Question 2: Are you handy ? If yes, it is a car that requires "handy" and if No, then on to question 3. Question 3: Do you have a lot of disposable income ? If yes, then possibly good to go and if No, then car probably will not perform as you would like and will just be a garage ornament. My point of saying this is just to be aware of your weaknesses as a luxury 30's car will throw them in your face. If you are not a woodworker then you are dependant upon someone else, but the woodworker also probably has bad wood as they are doing someone elses woodwork. That said, if you "plan" to buy one then you probably will not get one - they in my opinion really are more impulse buy - jump in and enjoy. Sidenote: All 1927 to 48 Cadillac's are LOVELY automobiles. If you like a 1935 get a 35, if you like 1936 then get a 36, Do not fear any year. Just keep in mind that if you do not want to deal with wood then get a car with good wood. If you do not have mechanical skills then give yourself half a chance and get a car that someone has spent time on mechanically. If you do not have a painter or ... then get a car with good paint. If you do not have 20K plus to do chrome then get a car with good chrome. And, etc.
  11. I have never touched a roof other than black in color (and doubt I ever would touch a leather roof in a color other than black). And to be blunt on the topic - on Black leather roofs I have used Armour-All (that said on the fluke last weekend I orderd a bottle of neatsfoot oil - delivery estimated in another two weeks)
