  9. Now the bottom line on the ?won?t start malady?. Had the car towed home from the AC shop. In less than 5 minutes determined the computer okay, relays and sensors alive. Went to check the HEP device and quickly discovered the timing belt at fault. That simple. So fine, my instincts were right about an AC tech?s diagnostic skill. No local repair shop wanted the job and quoted prices that confirmed it. Did the R & R on the belt myself three hours total and this is my first time. Car runs great. Found 7 inches of clean belt that the cogs were sheared off it was a Gates likely original. Replaced it with a Goodyear product $23 bucks total with tax. Thanks to the many contributors sharing their technical know how and Mr. Hemi Anderson for the personal reply.
  10. Thanks for the response Alan. Most of the info I?ve found on the net including Mr. Dave at ALLPAR concur that the HEP is the most likely culprit. I?m having the car towed home tomorrow from the AC shop and I?ll have at with a friend who is long on auto experience albeit not with Chrysler Products. And yes this car is modern to me I have a?88 Dakota I bought new it has a computer but not dozens of relays sensors and electronic crapola to make NASA envious. The Dakota has 209k miles and has been bullet proof. And for what it?s worth my other car is a ?55 DeSoto Sportsman HDTP full power with factory AC and of course a Hemi. As far as attending meetings I?ve such little confidence in this piece of crap TC I?m afraid to drive it across the street. May tow it there with the DeSoto just to sell it. Another contributor the the Chrysler sites who has chosen the moniker Looneytuner has replied to my call for help advising a chap named Hemi Anderson is knowledgeable and has a shop he believes in is my neck of the woods (Burbank). Can you provide a lead ? Since by tomorrow afternoon I?ll reach a point of frustration tempting me to beat the living Italian snot out of the Maserati crap thing with some honest grey iron stash I have for 300B?s. Thanks again for your quick response. GRI
  11. How do I contact Mr. Hemi. A contributor to ALLPAR referred me and say's Mr. Hemi has a shop in SoCal, near Burbank ? Thanks GRI

  13. Need help. Recently purchased an '89 Chrysler Maserati TC with 98k miles 2.2 Turbo charged, automatic. Had not been started or driven in over a year. This car has electrical problems galore. First off starter won't crank when car has been sitting in hot sunlight regardless if it had been recently driven or sat for hours. Continuous action of the column switch and eventually the engine will crank over and fire. Just had the AC converted to 134 (this is not the issue here) the service Tech drove the car to check his work and the car just died and will not restart. The engine will crank over but there is no spark. A simple circuit test indicates no power to the coil. Same tech made cursory diagnosis with out analyzer and declared it a dead computer. I'm not convinced. I don't want to get into an electronic voodoo hunt and spend tons of money on subjective opinion. I admit to complete ignorance with regard to computer controlled modern vehicles. Can't afford dealer service dept. guessing. Is this a common fault/occurrence? Need cure.
