  1. I have 4 rough castings for Budd wire wheel hub caps. These are cast brass with 2 ears. I machined a set for my Budd wire wheels on my 1914 model t. If you are interested I can send you some photos of my finished caps and the unmachined ones. brasscarguy@comcast.net Seattle USA
  2. I recently purchased a very original unrestored 1929 Cadillac dual cowl phaeton from Connecticut. I have service records from the 30's. It has never been disassembled or restored. I recently had it up on my hoist and I can tell you the chassis was originally black, as is the front and rear axles. Any other questions you might have in the future do not hesitate to ask. brasscarguy@comcast.net
  3. I have just acquired a 1941 Cadillac convertible sedan and intend to use it this summer so I want to buy a bug screen to cover the front of the car. Any ideas????? brasscarguy@comcast.net(Seattle)
  4. My father started me with a 19?? model t made into a tractor. He handed me a Dykes and said read the Ford model t section know it by heart. Then go out and get it running. Then he said when you get it running teach yourself how to drive it. When you can do that we will start restoring a nice original 1923 touring. That was my beginning into the restoration hobby. I was 14 at the time, now 77 and have restored more cars that I can remember. I enjoy all the work required to restore a car. However I no longer paint do to eye sight. Love machine work have a great Tree milling machine, a very large Harrison English lathe and plus a very complete machine shop and tools. Today is nearly impossible to hire out good work so you do it your self. Love engine work and fine fit and finish work. Cars from 1904 to 1941. love them all. brasscarguy
  5. I was at Hershey the day the restorer rolled it into his stall for its first car show. He was asked several times to open the hood and show the serial number, and he flat refused. He would not let anyone look either under the hood or crawl under the car. He did not drive it on the field he rolled it with tire booties on. As far as those auctions are concerned the fine print is soo small and full of disclaimers and exclusions to hold them harmless no matter what. So it is often said a fool and his money are soon parted, go to an auction show off for the big boys or your arm candy, over pay for something you know little about, sound about right ? brasscarguy
  6. I pay homage to Memorial Day as my wife is a military brat and he father was a full bird cornel in charge of medivac hospitals in the middle east. I now have a much better understanding of what that day stands for. My wife has also got involved with the Wreaths across America where volunteers on December 7th each year place wreaths on military head stones in cemeteries. This ceremony starts with a invocation, taps and then directions on how to properly honor our military members no longer with us. This was started a few years ago and we only had about 300 wreaths. As the years moved on the number of wreaths grew last year we placed 2500. Our goal this year is to place 6000 wreaths which would mean 1 wreath for each head stone. The decorum is to read the name rank and birth and death dates and thank them for their service, then place a wreath up against their head stone. This effort has been partially undertaken by the Seahawks volunteer group the 12's of which my wife is a board member of this organization.. We purchase the wreaths and make sure they are at the ready for the ceremony. Last December we had about 200 people of all ages including my 12 year old granddaughter. There were younger children as well as retired military members plus widows and widowers. This is a very serious and patriotic endeavor to honor those that served. It is active all over the US and you can google "Wreaths across America" for information in your area. brasscarguy
  7. When I restored my 1916 Twin Six limo I found that 1936 Plymouth 6 cylinder pistons fit perfectly. These are aluminum and require no piston pin modification. Something you need to keep in mind when you install the pistons with rings. The deck surface of the cylinder block is not true to the bore. In other words, when installing pistons the rings do not come in contact with the top of the block equally. It is very easy to break the lower ring as you are installing the piston. Ask the man that owned one!!!! brasscarguy
  8. I'm sorry but no one has answered the question correctly. Think about it guys, the toughest part of any restoration bar non, is explaining to your WIFE where the money went!!!!!!!! Restoration is a walk in the park , asking wifey for another check is the worst part period!!!! brasscaqrguy
  9. Make offer these wheels are going away, either to a collector or the scrap guy. I am cleaning out the barns and its time to lighten the load, so act quickly or these will be on the pile going to the scrapper. brasscarguy@comcast.net 206-919-1949(Seattle)
  10. Update, now really cleaning out the barns and these wheels are going one way or another. I'm open to an offer or they will be going to the scrap . Have no room to continue to store them and have no need for them. So be quick before the scrap man cometh. brasscarguy@comcast.net 206-919-1949(Seattle)
  11. Interesting fact regarding that car from Don Bolton's collection. Don could never find the right transmission for it so he grafted a White 4 speed transmission. When Don was thinning his parts and stuff a few years back I found a White transmission in one of his barns. I tried to buy it and he told me the story of the Austin and he wanted to keep the extra white transmission just in case. just sayin' brasscarguy
  12. This tool holds 2- 1/2 shell valve keepers to be installed after a valve grind. It holds the 2- 1/2 shell keepers while you gently slide them around the valve stem (see the notch on each side if the holder) then you pull the trigger and at the same time release the valve spring to hold the 1/2 shells around the valve stem. I've used one many times and yes they work and it save the tips of your fingers. brasscarguy
  13. My 1915 Packard Twin Six Limo with a Kimball body had "roll up" windows in the rear doors. They operated by a bike type chain. Once cleaned, lubricated and adjusted they worked remarkably well. Up and down easy and no rattles. brasscarguy
  14. Just do it right the first time, use Connollys Hyde treatment from England. It is the finest leather treatment available. Rolls Royce recommends it for their fine leather interiors. Availible on Amazon. Have used it for over 40 years myself on MG's to Rolls Royce with excellent results brasscarguy
  15. Damn it, where's the mechanic with the fat man steering wheel??? We can't start the trip with out it. brasscarguy

  18. Followed the listed rules to change my password. Now it tells me I have tried to enter 3 time and has me blocked. Just make it simple and let me change my password. I'm not asking for the password for Fort Knox, just a simple car forum. Where do I go from here?????? brasscarguy@comcast.net
  19. That could be the beginning of one of the flat head Fords that ran at Indy. Might do some research on those cars to get some ideas. I'm thinking they were still 2 man cars. Anyway a flathead would be a very cool speedster with finned heads and 3 down draft Strombergs. just satin' brasscarguy
  20. Brush: 1st car with full floating (wooden) axles.!!!!! Brush: wooden axles wooden body would'en run. Don't waste your time and effort underpowered horribly designed single cylinder motor, even worse transmission. My brother had one and after much trouble getting it to run and a major transmission repair, it now sits up on a 4 post hoist gathering lots of dust. Don't think it ever made a complete tour. When it did run is was slower than molasses in January. just sayin' brasscarguy
  21. This weekend is the early bird swap meet in Puyallup, Good luck brasscarguy
  22. Teens and earlier Reo valves had a slot and bar spring retainer. Not sure when Reo went to the bar type such as you have.
  23. Mike, I just say your ad for a 37x41/2 tire. Sorry I do not have any tires but do have a set of 4 28" Houk wire wheels new rims and spokes plus 2 front and 2 rear hubs and caps. I had these restored by Mcclaren some years ago for a speedster project that never materialized. They are now surplus to me and are for sale if you are interested. I can send you photos if your want. brasscarguy@comcast.net.
