  1. Does anyone know of any way of tracking down the history of your car? I was given the Californian title of the previous owner, but not sure about previous to that.
  2. here's some photos. the engine, the portholes and a rear view featuring me and my dog Roger. (notice my Pacers sticker, any Pacers fans here?)
  3. haha, i think you may do fine compared to some of the obsessed ones over here. As far as different names for the vintage cars, all that I have heard of is the name Marquette, although I will ask when I meet up next with the club.
  4. wow, thanks for those photos, beautiful car. that looks like it's the same car as mine. do you know if the 2-door was the same length as the 4-door? Unfortunately the brakes still don't work(but when you drive a Buick why would you want to stop? ) , but I have a plan worked out as to what I will do. I will get some new lines made up first then go from there. As far as leaving it as is goes, I can only really do what my budget allows (which isn't much) which is what is holding me back at the moment. My preference is cars that are restored to pretty much original state, I am not a fan of modifications. I would love to have a beautiful interior though, that's what I love seeing at car shows - a car with a nice interior. As far as parts go, I need a new windscreen, windscreen wipers, and the piece above the grill.
  5. I fell in love with Buick's and my favorite era is mid to late 50's, which I then narrowed down to 56/57 when it was time to buy. I looked around the internet for many cars for sale in USA and I was close to buying when I came across the '56 in Australia, which is rare to find them for sale here. I was excited when I became the owner, I get a piece of motoring history! The car was brought into town via a truck transportation, the truck was too big to fit in my street, so dad drove it from a few streets away because I was at work. He says it was an interesting experience driving with no brakes! he just used the park brake. Unfortunately I have to keep it in the front yard, as mum and dad's car take preference. I can understand dad's '69 corvette, but mum's new Honda taking preference I'm not happy with

  7. We have a register printed each year which lists members of the Buick Car Club of Australia. I just looked at this and it has about 800 cars listed as being owned, although this includes cars which are not road running. This list does not include the states of South Australia and Tasmania (Australia has 6 states), plus there may be many owners who do not join clubs, so I imagine there would be something like a thousand Buick's in Australia. There were 80 that appeared at the nationals, which was a good attendance considering many members own several cars and could only bring along their favorite (one guy i spoke to owned 17!!!) My guess that the majority would be 2nd hand, we take the ones you guys don't want any more. Although the very old ones, I think about pre-1940, have local bodies on them. The bodies were put on by the Australian G.M. brand - Holden - but still called Buick's. So the ones from that era would be brought new, anything afterwards would be brought over. The reason for the sticker on the '57 is to let other drivers know why he may be driving a bit different, as in Australia the driver's side is on the right (not sure if you knew this). Once a car is 30 years old they allow it to be kept an original condition, otherwise they have to convert it.
  8. this photo is a '57 super. anybody got any questions or comments regarding the Aus. nationals?
  9. this is a '56 4-door special. I was lucky to get driven in this, even though I own a '56 it was my 1st ever ride in one because mine is under restoration.
  10. a 1968 engine, i took this photo because it had a nice orange paint job.
  11. this was a popular car at the show, a silver one from the late 40's/early 50's era, i'm not sure of the exact year though sorry.
  12. my next 3 photos I tried to get the widest view that I could of the whole display area, so I will start from the left, each photo together should make the whole scene.

  16. I'll put more photos up and if anyone has any questions about the Aust. Nationals, feel free to ask, I will see if i can give an answer. A bit more information I thought of was that there was 1 wagon - a 1970, the highest decade represented was the 60's, and the majority of member's stayed at the 1 motel, so it was great to see a Buick outside of nearly every room! The next meet is scheduled for my local area, so that would be great to have any traveller's attend, we'd be happy to have you stay with us for accomodation, and you can let us all know about the Buick scene over there! I will organise a Me and my buick section soon, I have only just decided to return to this website, that's why I haven't done it yet. My next photo is a 1950, front view so you can see the beast which is the grill.
  17. I would tell you if i knew, but unfortunately I don't. I think it might be tough finding fans of the '58, I don't think they were a popular car, although I think they are nice. Try this - http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/1958_buicks/
  18. this is a 1937 woody. this photo wasn't taken at the meet because it's from my local area, but it did actually appear at the Nationals.
  19. a dark green 1925. I got driven around in this because unfortunately i did not take my Buick as it is still under restoration back at home. Quite an interesting experience, this was the oldest car that I have driven in, it ran nicely and it was strange looking out at the front of the bonnet for the engine temperature!
