  1. I changed out the 216 engine in my 1951 Chevrolet and installed a 235 engine.  Now, the throw out bearing doesn't push the pressure plate enough to allow shifting gears. I fabricated an extra long clutch fork rod but still no shift. All parts worked fine in the old 216 set up.  Is there some type of special clutch fork rod used for this swap. All help greatly appreciated.

  2. How can I go about getting a title for a recent barn find 1935 Dodge?  The seller has no paperwork and the car is located in Illinois. I am in RI which now demands a title for all out-of-state cars, no matter what the age. (Real friendly state!). I know that the Vermont registration method was recently closed down and can no longer be used.  All suggestions greatly appreciated

  3. I replaced the tired 216 engine in my 1951 Chevy with a later 50's 235 engine. I used my original bell housing, flywheel, pressure plate and throw out bearing, and original linkages,  All seemed to go well but now I can't shift into gear. I adjusted the clutch linkage for max length but still not enough. tHERE IS AT LEAST A COUPLE OF INCHES FREE PLAY, TOO.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  4. 1922 DB sedan parts car or project;. Complete car. solid body with the exception of the r side fender and splash apron which are rotted. Surface rust. Missing two window glass, several others are cracked. Roof is in good shape. Doors bottoms and floors all solid. Transmission and multi disc clutch stored on back floor, Trans is missing the shifter top. I had the car running (by hand cranking ) briefly with gas in the primer cups. Starter works , chain not hooked up.
    Well worth the price for the parts alone.
    A project I will never get to, due to time and age. Priced for quick sale. No title, only bill of sale.   located in RI

  5. Recently acquired a 53 Plymouth with Hi Drive transmission. From what I've read, it seems that the engine and trans share the same oil (sort of like a Model T) and that an oil change involves 11 quarts.  Is this actually true? If so, does this involve draining the torque converter, assuming it has one? Also, what is the recommended weight oil? All responses greatly appreciated. Thanks!

From what I've read, it seems that the engine and trans share the same oil (sort of like a Model T) and that an oil change involves 11 quarts.  Is this actually true?   7. Rusty, I have tried three carburetors, one I rebuilt.  There is nothing sucking the air/gas mixture down the venturi.  Had the manifolds off and trued. It's got to be some sort of internal crack.  Wish an average compression of 60-65 lbs, this engine is not a great candidate.  I am in the process of buying a lo mileage, rebuilt 235 from a 56 BelAir. Not crazy about doing an engine swap but I do like this car.

     

  8. I can barely keep it running by closing the choke completely. Have to keep pumping the gas. Cannot find any vacuum leak. Had the manifolds milled and I installed with new gaskets.   Tried other carbs but the issue is that the intake doesn't draw. I am going to scrap this 216 and go with a later 235.  Maybe there is some kind of internal crack. The oil and water are all ok.

     

  9. 1951 Chevy, inline 6, 216 cu in. Almost no vacuum at the intake manifold, barely enough to pull fuel down.  I checked my manifolds over carefully, belt sanded them and they looked perfect using a straight edge. Cleaned everything and installed with new gaskets and gland rings.  Zerol  The engine is pretty tired with cylinder compression around 65 lbs, 90 with oil added. It's possible to get the engine to run with a completely closed choke but that pretty much stinks. Soots up the plugs in no time, too.  No water in the oil, no oil in the water, no steam.  What do you guys think?  Sure appreciate all answers. 

  10. Gentlemen, I am looking for a suitable engine for my 1951 Chevy Styline  which has a 223 engine.  Any of you have any experience with this? I've seen various writings about using a similar truck engine or a 250 but I would like to have as easy an installation as possible and minimize fabricating and changing parts.  All answers greatly appreciated.

                   A number of years ago I purchased rims for a 22 Buick from a couple of brothers, I think Sullivan was their name but I could be wrong. They had an enormous warehouse of parts and tons of wheels inside and outside in northern MA.   I am trying to run down a Whippet rim or two and if anyone has them, these guys do.  

                         Is the place or name, or description of mds, sound familiar to you?
