  1. Go to www.classicaccessories.org , you will find pictures of many early heaters and their applications. Good luck, Dave
  2. The really nice thing about the B-J auction is the opportunity to see all the cars up close and personal before they go on the block. I go on Sat. to see the concept cars auctioned and spend most of the day looking at the cars out in the tents. There are also tons of "automobilia" to look at and it goes each day from about 10 A.M until 2 P.M. when the car auction starts. There are also food concessions in the tent area with good food at not to stiff prices. My son is handicapped so we have to rent a golf cart for the day for about $65 but by the end of a very long day I'm glad we have it. We go for the general admission price and have never been disappointed. I order the catalog on the internet but, you can pick one up when you get there. We order it before the auction in order to study it for a week or so in advance. You won't believe how big the area is until you see it. If you buy a program or catalog you will find out which cars sell on any day and gear your visit to the ones you are really interested in, but you can see them all in the tent area or exhibit tents beforehand and get all the close up pictures you want. Go with the idea of seeing everything and you will get your moneys worth whether you pay the general admission or the bidders fee. Have a good time, Dave
  3. The owner of our local electrical rebuilder (gen-alt-starter-etc) recommends the 6-volt Optima instead of an 8-volt battery. He uses them in all his restored tractors instead of 8-volt batteries. I put one in my '28 Olds and am really happy with it. It does a great job, and you don't have to mess with the regulator. Check out that option. Be aware if you run the battery completely down it takes about two days at 8-amps to bring it back to the top. Good luck with your project and please post your results, no matter which way you go. Thanx, Dave
  4. The 1961 Motors Manual calls this spring a "dampener". Indicates it is missing or insulated from the drum if the brakes squeal on application. The Olds parts manual simply calls it a coil spring. Dave
  5. The Oldsmobile Club of Arizona is located in Scottsdale. Chances are if you are looking at a car in Scottsdale, the owner is probably a member. You can find out by going to info@azoldsclub.com. Any way you do it , it's probably best to have an "expert" look at it and you come real close to "expert" with members of the O.C.A.. Ask the owner how the car has been rated in the local or national shows. Ask the club officials about the sellers reputation. Personally, I would not buy a car I have not driven and inspected myself. Someone other than yourself cannot 100 0/0 know what you are looking for. Good luck, Dave
  6. Set the #1 cylinder at top dead center on compression. Remove the distibutor cap. See where the rotor is pointed and use that wire for #1 spark plug. Follow the firing order and you should be O.K. This procedure will allow for a distributor that is not installed exactly right. Otherwise you can follow the instructions in the manual and reinstall the distributor to spec's .The above procedure works with any engine. Good luck with your project, Dave Hope this helps
  7. The console shift lever on the 1961-1963 Starfires was a smooth thin type of plastic. I have tried replacements from Impala Bob in AZ but they are too thick and stiff. Anyone know what a good replacement is?? The originals are very brittle and eventualy break. Thanx, Dave

I have NOS quarter panels and fender panels but I need the door panels to complete the car. I wonder if the 1962 door panels could be cut down to the 1961 size ???? Has any one tried this ??? 21. This sounds like the usual ground problem. Make sure the starter attaching bolts are tight as well as all connections on the hot side. Check engine timing as well. Make sure all ground connections are tight and that there is a ground strap from the engine to the frame. The ground side is most likely the culprit. Good luck with your project, Dave
  22. Unless the tranny has been changed it is the "SLIM JIM'' and parts are easy to find. Just about any part you would need is available from "FATSCO" Transmission Parts 1 (800) 524 0485, ask for Richard. There are others also but I only have experience with FATSCO. You can identify your tranny by the tag on it. All the SLIMJIMS were identified with a letter designation OA except the Starfires wich had an OB on the tag. Good luck with your project, Dave
  23. Hall's was closed down three or four years ago. They were at Soldier Kansas. All the cars were crushed, what a crime against restorers. They have since tried to restart, but have little or no inventory. You may occasionaly see an add in HMN. Dave
  24. I now find I need the badges that attach near the "NINETY EIGHT" for both sides in addition to the script for the passengers side. We could also use the trunk letters "O L D S M O B I L E " for the 1961-98. Thanx, Dave
