  1. Anybody know of a good place to get the axle seal from?
  2. I'll probably take it over to the auto hobby shop on base to work on it. They have a much more complete selection of tools than I do and they have a lift. I'll probably replace the shocks while I am at it because they look to be original, and even if they aren't they are pretty much shot.
  3. Joe, that looks like a handy link. Thanks for sharing!
  4. I grew up loving Pontiacs. I lived and slept Pontiacs, and my dad always drove Pontiacs. My grandfather always drove Oldsmobiles...a new one every two years from the early 50's to the 80's. I always kept a look out for affordable old cars (back in the days before Craiglist) and stumbled across a 1962 Buick Electra for something like $2500. I went to look at it and after taking it for a test drive I fell in love with it. After going back to look at it again with my dad I bought it for $2000. That was 1995. Shortly after buying it I enlisted in the Marine Corps. Seventeen years later I still have it, despite thinking long and hard more than a few times about selling it.
  5. Well, seeing as I had to dig way back to find this thread it is safe to say that I haven't done much with my Buick in a while. Today I got off work early for the holiday weekend and I am between college classes so it seemed like a chance to get the brakes sorted out. A couple of years ago I took the front brakes apart, inspected everything, cleaned, and put everything back together...it didn't seem to help anything. So, today I decided to look at the rear brakes, and I am pretty sure I found the problem. It looks like a leaking axle seal...oil all over the backing plate, shoes, and drum.
  6. I can measure the offset of the wheels on my '62 Electra...should be the same.
  7. Welcome to the forum Romans! I am sure that you will find the members of the forum here to be very knowledgeable and helpful.
  8. Too bad it doesn't have a Nailhead in it...
  9. So, was Bob's description of the procedure accurate?
  10. Ok...gotcha on the inspection, didn't know that about Quebec.
  11. Bob, that is written like you have experience...
  12. Don't stress out too much if the tranny seals are leaking a little. Mine always leaks a little when it sits for a while, but when I drive more frequently the leaks go away. Looks good in the pictures to me...I say do what you need to drive it safely and enjoy!
  13. Either one would be a great one for me...in about 3 years when I have retired from the Marine Corps and hopefully am able to settle down. Until then I will have to stick to just one Buick.
  14. Brian, thanks for sharing the link...lots of great pics!
  15. Downloaded and installed it on my Droid Bionic. It works good and the option to find events within a range of your current location is a good tool if you live within a relatively short distance of a couple of different states. It seems to me that this could be a good tool for the BCA at all levels to get the word out about their events.
  16. Great news! I can't wait to read more of your work.
  17. Great looking trunk! +1 on RivNut's post...more details on the materials please.
  18. Nice area to spend the summer! I just spent the week camping not too far from there at Unicoi State Park.
  19. I'll have to see if I can feel or see any sludge in mine the next time I change the oil. This thread makes me nervous...
  20. I imagine that I would have had a great time, and I still plan on getting to one some year. However, this year I thought it best to use the money that I would have spent to get my Buick back on the road so I can enjoy it with the family.
  21. Are these the same points a person would use if they were putting jack stands under the car? I don't have a Riv, but my '62 Electra has the X-frame too. I need to work on the rear brakes, but with the shrouded rear wheels I have to get the car up a ways to get the back tires off. I figure if those points would work, I can jack my car up using a floor jack under the pumpkin, place the jack stands under the frame, and then let the jack down enough to get the tires off. Will that be steady enough?
  22. Hard to believe you haven't received yours yet. Down here in SW Georgia (aka the land technology forgot) I received mine a couple of days ago.
  23. That does look nice, and I am in the market for a tool box that size...too bad there isn't a Menards anywhere near me. Maybe they will still have them when we head up to WI this summer.
  24. I may have missed it in a previous thread, but are those factory colors? That color combination is amazing!!!
