  1. Agree with Don M. I have the Service Bulletins showing the change.
  2. Bob H.: The 28-41 Body Manual has a good picture of the 39 convertible coupe and convertible sedan. Repros are available and a good investment. I constantly refer to mine. NM
  3. Thanks for posting those change points. My very original 39 Model 41 verified all changes and their change points. SN 1351----. Just shy of the change on the wiper transmissions.
  4. Your 38 and 39 Shop Manuals show the correct floorboard clearance and how to to adjust for it. I assume you have them. If not, acquire a set immediately. You will need both as the 39 is a suppliment to the 38.
  5. There is a complete 37 Special engine for sale on eBay in Utah with pics that might be useful for reference.
  6. My first car was a 67 Skylark convertible in1970 for $1500 from a VW dealer. Green Mist with parchment interior and white top. 340 4 bbl and ST 300 trans. 59K miles. I removed the skirts and installed the Special rear wheel moldings that everyone is looking for today. Got me through college. Traded it in with 112K miles mostly because there was talk in 1975 that premium gas was going to disappear. Happy Anniversary 1967!
  7. Somebody please refresh me on the date of the Graham Owners Club National Meet in Fort Wayne, Indiana is for 2017. Thanks.
  8. Agree with Pete on engine color and black primer/undercolor. My original 39 Special engine valve cover and pushrod cover have paint acting in the same way. Same has been true with other 37 to 41 Buicks I have worked on over the last 43 years. Recently I used parts cleaner solvent to remove a bunch of old gunk from a 38 engine pushrod cover. Same result. I find it interesting, though, that the black paint on these sheet metal parts is smooth and shiny. One would expect the finish to be dull. I have no doubt these sheet metal parts were primed at the stamping plant before being sent to the engine assembly area where they were bolted to the engine and painted as a unit. Your engine does not appear to be a replacement unit. If the oil dipstick enters the crankcase at its junction with the oil pan below the distributor, you can be certain it is a correct block for your 39. The dipstick was changed to a location at the rear of the engine above the starter for 1940 and later blocks.
  9. Seems like Mark and Bob H have some good answers on this one. In 1942the factory added a sheet metal baffle attached to the rocker assembly to help control the oil spray emerging from these holes.
  10. All 39&40 hubcaps are the same except for Series 90.
  11. Let me echo the sentiments expressed by all the posters and thank Jeff, Mike, Nancy, Mr. Bulgari, Keith and all the volunteers who made this meet one to never forget. Only disappointment was that the rain gods chose to make their presence known on our special week; however, that will still not overshadow the great time had by all who attended. I want to make a special shoutout to Dave Buckman (1952 Model 59). He was a driver of one of the many golf carts on the field. My wife has foot and ankle problems but Dave gave us and others an unhurried tour of the field for which we were very grateful. Good to see or run into Brian Depouli, Brian Clark, John Defiore, and Earl Beauchamp. Thanks again to all!
  12. Thanks. Pete. On our way today. Look forward to shaking your hand for the job you do.
  13. Got my packet yesterday. Surprised there was not a map included but I see it is available in Jeff's recent post. Will volunteers be receiving a separate notice on assignments? Thanks. The excitement builds!
  14. Pete: You're probably thinking of Russ Aves with the 41. Interesting story on that one. John S.: Member 5000 appeared in the Feb 1976 Bugle. Lamar and others: I am BCA 1649 joining in March of 1971 as a 19 year old college freshman driving a 1967 Skylark Convertible. A 1939 Limited appeared in a local collectors used car lot and caught my attention. Bad shape but eventually acquired it and got it running. Sold much later as priorities changed; but I still have a divider window set up which was to be used to convert it to a 90L. I am a charter member of the Glass City Chapter which was formed in August of 1972 and have been an officer most of these past 44 years. It has been gratifying to hear some of our chapter members discuss places they have been over the years and may never have visited except to note that it was with the Buick Club. It has been my privilege to communicate with early members such as Earl B. #55, Bob Jones #54 and especially Joe Taubitz "The Old Guy". my BCA hero. The BCA Forums have added an extra dimension to my enjoyment of being a BCA member even in spite of some of the whining and disparaging remarks by some posters. Thanks to all those who have helped me with various questions over the years. Really looking forward to Allentown and putting faces with names.
  15. Nice car, Earl. I see you're planning to come to Allentown. Will you be driving this Riviera?
  16. If you still have the head off probe the cooling system passages at the rear to check for built up crud. These straight eights were mounted with the rear lower than the front and that's where the crud builds up. Could be a possible overheating problem from before?
  17. Great story. I usually get to the Gilmore once per year and have enjoyed seeing your car.
  18. MC: Your # is correct as well as it superceded the original #. Notice the last 3 digits (529) stand for the original AC rebuild kit number.
  19. Brian: 1940 Ser. 40-50 after eng #44034048 on 40 Ser. 54034048 on 50 Ser. 1941thru1951 all 40 and 50 Series. Buick changed the pump to crankcase mounting bolts from 5/16 to 3/8 inch per the Parts Book and Service Bulletins
  20. Will not fit 66. Will fit 65 lesabre, wildcat and Electra . Unique design on the faceplate. One year only design on the 65 instrument panel. Good price , though.
  21. 1941-1953 small series. Spacing on holes for the studs is different from the cover used on1936 - 1940. Also vent louvers were added in 1941to try and overcome condensation complaints of the earlier covers.
  22. This car was featured in the February 2016 Bugle.
  23. Definitely get a Fisher Body Manual. If 1936 not available, the 1937-38 manuals are and it shows the procedure for lowering the top on a Model 80C. Enjoy this car!
