  1. I am working an a 1958 IH Metro for a charity and I can't find a listing for the shocks anywhere. I even emailed Monroe and no reply. Is there a Metro forum site that could help me? Thank you.
  2. Lines and lines of description but only 5 important words, "Did run 5 years ago" Also no reserve, but. "Starting bid US $999.00" ???
  3. It seems to be that people in France want their antiques to look like antiques, unlike in the US, everybody repaints then and make them look like new. I personally enjoy an old tractor that looks like it just came in from the field from plowing, rather when it came off of the showroom floor.
  4. Make sure your car cover is tied down. I had one stolen that was on a car. I found a very small piece of it under the floor so I pulled on it. It seems that a groundhog thought it would make a nice winter bed so he confiscated it for his home .
  5. Not exactly true. Your insurance company has the right to take it for salvage, or to deduct it's salvage value from the payout on a total if you wish to retain it. (their choice) In Ma., they must get three salvage bids in writing to set the salvage value.
  6. 35. (:-o) I guess that I will have to spend more time in different countries.
  7. At about a $40,000 value for the car, give it to me and I will fix it and have a real steal.
  8. I envy you, no insurance, no E10 problems, no run down batteries, no storage problems, etc.
  9. I had a haze on a new windshield and I washed it with lacquer thinner. Seemed to do the job after a rain X app.
  10. After cleaning out a gas tank, you will need a inline filter. I use the clear plastic ones where you can see the build up of rust in them. You will be surprised how often you will need to change them. Instal them on the line between the tank and the fuel pump.
  11. NEVER use pvc for air lines. It can explode and shatter you with pieces. Also, in case of a fire, it will melt and feed the fire with a blast of air that will look like a blow torch. I used pvc under the concrete floor to save money and someone decided to tighten the pipe that came up from the floor. It shattered the plastic under the floor and made the line useless. (had I welded a piece of steel across the pipe that was embedded in the concrete to prevent it from turning, it would still be working.) PS, water will also collect in the under ground pipe due to condensation. Water, air and elect. lines should always be installed so that you can service them and add extra connections as necessary.
  12. I looked this up on google. I know nothing about it except what is listed there. https://allgaragefloors.com/polyurea-best-garage-floor-coating-kits/ AND...
  13. When I was "restoring" my 31 Essex, I bought a trunk like the one pictured above. When asked by my workers what I was going to do with it, I said I was going to put it on the back of my Essex. They asked in disbelief, "your are going to put in on the back of a car? That's stupid" I said TRUNK? doesn't your car have a trunk? where do you think the name came from?
  14. If you see it in Graigs list, it should be nearby you in order to drive over and inspect the part/car. (preferably in a public area) Only problem is, you should take a friend (preferably a muscle man) to prevent someone from stealing your money.
  15. 53 New Yorker , I love the pic's of your 48 chrysler. I am looking at one now that is a 7 passenger. My friends are trying to talk me out of it as the cost of restoring exceeds the finished value by 2X. Please give me some encouragement to buy it!
  16. trfindley , Is your principal structure a garage or a house?? Think about it. A friend in Fla built a garage/ barn and ran into a lot of trouble when he tried to use it. It was on farm land and the town decided that it was a garage after it was built.
  17. I was selling a car at my used car lot way back when, and while I was showing the car a second person showed up. The first buyer was kicking the tires and hemming and hawing for a while. so I excused myself to say hello and not ignore the second guy. The second guy said immediately, " I’ll buy the car right now at the asking price". I went over to the first guy and told him that the other guy wants to buy it, but I will give you first chance if you want it now. The first guy said no. I sold to the second guy on the spot.
  18. I bought an engine once from a junkyard. I thought it was an engine when I looked at it, but I had to have it! Upon getting it home, I decided that it was in fact an engine but what kind? It had copper lines soldered together to form the intake manifold. It had an external cup, cast into the oil pan that has a shaft that went up and down from an eccentric outside of the block that turned out to be the oil pump. A round thing on the side of the engine turned out to be the "timer". The drive was off of the front and had a weird motor mount that held the engine in a downward angle. I assumed that it came out of a boat. I looked it up in a book that described engines of the past that contained 500 engine names. I determined that it was a Simplex? The description stated about what it looked like, but they didn't know who made it, when, or where, I asked a few friends about it and a friend of a friend showed up and offered me $200 for it. I wanted it to go to a good home so I sold it.
  19. I would sell it to the first person that shows up with the cash. The first person has only expressed a desire to buy. The second said he would buy. Both have had had equal opportunity to buy. Explain to both, first come first served. If I had a dollar for everybody that said they would buy, but did not, I would be rich. I once bought a house, knowing full well that the owner was considering an offer by a second party. I stated that I would pay the asking price, nothing immoral here.
  20. It has a set of jump seats in the back. It is 14" longer than a standard 4 door. It would be called a 7 passenger if you had a jr high football team. (but not adults with the girth of my friends) ?
  21. About 14 years ago I purchased a 31 Essex 2 door sedan for $2400. It had no rot and was in decent shape. I purchased it in order to have a project that would keep me busy in retirement, This is how it looks now. (disclaimer, It is not exactly the way Hudson made it.)
  22. Why do people always leave the hood's and doors open in a junkyard?? Don't they know that car will be worth thousands in the future? OOops, I didn't notice the date of the pic.? Oh well...
  23. I registered a home made trailer in Ma and the RMV gave me a small plastic sticker with a "vin" on it to be attached to the trailer. I don't know what to do if the sticker ever comes off or someone steals it and removes the sticker. ( I did, however weld my SS# in an inconspicious area on the frame.)
  24. I am not against restro rods,(I have a few of my own) I think that the finished project would look nice in this forum but the build could be better viewed and appreciated in the HAMB forum.
