I can definitely smell something dead in my heater vents. Looking at the Service Manual, I have to pull quite a bit of panel off to get to it. Anybody done this before? Any suggestions?

Listen to Digger and Hemi... I've had both problems in the past. It is NOT a master cylinder - it's different. The mechanic needs to see the shop manual, which I'm sure he doesn't have. No matter, if it's not leaking, then you might be able to fix it without major maintenance. The key is the question you were originally asked: can you hear the pump run? As far as the top pull down locks, everybody has problems with them. If the manual method is not doing it, then it must really need cleaning. Get a can of WD-40 and get to work. Good luck, John

Does anybody still have the '89 hood liner template floating around? John

I'm trying to peel back the liner on the inside of the tonneau cover to access the center mounted brake light. The little clips that hold the liner just don't want to let go; I'm afraid that I'll tear the fabric because it's so weak with age. I'm assuming that the clips are just the push-in kind, but it's going to take a lot of force to get them out. Suggestions? John

My Ash Tray Lid has failed. The top is still good, as well as the unused ashtray. But the open/close mechanism, made of plastic, has literally shattered like old bakelite. Suggestions? John

1989 Maserati TC Parts Car For Sale 64k Miles
johngoodman replied to a topic in Chrysler's TC by Maserati
That's your problem - low battery. A jump is no replacement for a good battery. Low batteries will destroy the armature in the starter. That can be repaired (here in Georgia) for about $65. John -
This discussion brings up an interesting question for me. A few years back I replaced my accumulator/pump/motor assembly to stop a leak on the carpet. It's been working fine, but now the Anti-Lock AND Brake Light are on all the time (they used to go out after a minute or two). The pump is working fine (turns on with key and stops after 20 seconds or so). The brakes are working fine. There is no fluid leak anywhere. I figure it has to be a sensor somewhere... any thoughts? If you are in the TC Club, you might try calling some of the parts guys listed in the newsletter. Generally, the front parts of the TC are hard to replace. John

What Does the TC Stand For?

I have the same engine. So far, no problems - I think it's a variation of a Dodge engine of the same era. The brake system is the big gotcha.... John -

Let's have another poll by Mosty

Actually, I love ABS. Admittedly, I was a career pilot and it was easy to calculate for us - 9 times the square root of the tire pressure. Airplane tire pressures are much higher than cars, so the hydroplane speed was too. For instance, a typical tire pressure of 200 psi yielded about 110 knots (you have to convert mph to knots). At a touchdown speed of 125 knots (or more), you can expect hydroplaning about 5 seconds after landing. That's an exciting ride if the ABS is out (we called it anti-skid). Cars are different because you can't account for different brands and styles of tires. You also can't account for the varied road conditions (runways & airplane tires are pretty much the same). However, you can expect hydroplaning in a car between 59 and 40 miles per hour. Common speeds for most cars. Most drivers have probably been in dozens of hydroplane slides, they just didn't know it. It's a good system. John -
Raise the Tonneau cover, look for the two screws that hold the lamp assembly on. Remove the screws, lift the lamp, disconnect the wiring connector, and you can get inside the lamp to change the bulb. John

Small tear in Ginger Soft Top
johngoodman replied to johngoodman's topic in Chrysler's TC by Maserati
OK, I've got a decent repair, but you can find it on close inspection. I bought some tan Gaffer's Tape. I didn't really need tan, but I wanted it to be a close match if I had to tape from the outside. I pulled back the interior liner, and applied a strip of Gaffer's Tape to the tear from the inside. Then I bought one of those vinyl repair kits you can find at Ace, Autozone, etc. The kit has a "filler" in a tube that I used to fill the small indentation. After it dries, you can finish filling with colored vinyl. Turns out that I was able to mix an almost exact match to the ginger top. You take the colored vinyl and spread it over the blemish. Then you use an iron to heat a small metal "disc on a stick". You put a piece of grain patterned material that comes with the kit over the work area, and start ironing with the little disc. After the vinyl sets, you can pull it off. It's not perfect by any means, but it's good enough for me. John -
With Spring coming, I pulled out the TC and raised the rag top. Found that a mouse had wintered over in the soft top pan and had chewed a tiny 3/4" hole. It looks like a coin slot for quarters. Anyway, I want to patch it. Anybody have a recommendation on ginger colored patching systems? John 1989 Yellow with Ginger top & upholstery

I had the same problem and the WD-40 trick worked for me. Also, make sure that the pins fully lock, or the motor will still draw current and kill your battery. In fact, my rag top still is hard to pull down and gives me the current problem, but the hard top doesn't. John

Original Owners Manual question
