I was missing him tonight and got to poking around on the internet and stumbled into this. Thank you all for your kind words about my grandpa. It's been a rough couple of weeks, but we're getting along. Grandpa loved teaching Paul (my younger brother) all about cars - I never took the interest in it Paul did (instead, I liked to hear his old WWII stories : ) ), so it's nice to hear about people who shared that piece of his life with him. I remember when we first got him set up on the internet. He was so fascinated that he could help people in other countries with their car problems. It was pretty cute. : ) If you have any good stories of my grandpa, please email them to me at meglover85@yahoo.com Thanks again for your kind words. My grandpa is an amazing man, as it seems that many of you have experienced...I'm so blessed to be his granddaughter!! Sincerely, Megan </div></div> Hi Megan. I conversed with your Grandpa via PM about my dynaflow trans of which I knew nothing about. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, he was very kind and patient. He helped me get my trans going which I will always remember! A big salute from me to your grandpa Ralph!!! Keith
  2. Nice find! Sweet car!!! How does it drive? A little history? Now thats a Buick! Keith
  3. For those following this thread, my friend just got a call from the guy in question and the guy gave his word that he would be over Sunday with some money. The guy was VERY apologetic (you know, working to much, busy blah, blah, blah. For two years?lol)The guy is "known" as a notorious bullshitter!!) The strange thing is, this guy has money. to be ...............
  4. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Does it also depend if your friend has a state licensed repair shop, or is this a personal endeavor? I think there are different laws that may apply regarding time held. If licensed, he owes "storage space" money, for the time he is holding the car, I think (this could be the same if a repair shop or personal "side-line" body work. Either way, space is space and he should get about $100/month for inside storage, unclaimed. But likely there is no written contract. Just my opinion, not a "legal" one. Good luck! John </div></div> Thanks John. Not looking for "legal" advice but in this day I understand the disclaimer LOL.My friend is going to contact this guys mutual friends and tell them to get in contact with him. We found out this guy (we will call him Dan) was in town a couple weeks ago for a funeral. If this guy doesn't contact my friend soon, I think he is so fed-up he is just going to push it down the street. There is no contract and my friend did the work in his garage so he doesn't really want to involve the authorities (plus he likes to handle his own problems). My friend just told me he got a cell number for the guy in question. He called it and asked for dan. The guy that answered said his name is Kevin and that the cell used to be Dan's but it is his now LOL. My friend swares it was Dan that answered. My friend told the guy that answered that he sounded like Dan, but the guy denied it. My friend told the guy to give Dan a message. To be continued........... Any more oppinions (not legal advice) would be appreciated. Keith
  5. What will that thing run? Speedwise. Dollar wise as well. Thanks. keith
  6. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">"Octane not high enough" would result in "clatter" or "rattle" upon acceleration (or under ANY acceleration or load if the timing was waaayyyy too much for the octane). Lots of things can affect octane requirement other than just mechanical compression ratio (see David Vizard books on small block Chevy V-8 engines for that information). Make sure the distributor points "dwell" is adjusted to specs, then set the base timing to specs . . . in THAT order . . . and then see which octane does what and such. If you want, you might try advancing the base timing a few degrees to see what the tolerance might be and if there is any increase in performance (and idle speed). If it runs a little better without clattering, it might get enough better fuel economy to make the higher octane viable to use (financially). If there's no significant difference, use the lower octane and see if it clatters with the slightly advanced timing. Kind of play with it to see what might work best. This is a "cut and try" method, but it's the only way you'll find out what your engine likes best or can tolerate. Enjoy! NTX5467 </div></div> Thanks NTX5467!! keith

I'd suggest a call/visit to the local DMV to find out what needs to be done. http://www.michigan.gov/treasury MI DVM - Abandoned Vehicles Cheers, JMC </div></div> Thanks for the suggestion (should have stated that I know about the DMV LOL) and my buddy will indeed do that when the time comes but what my friend would really like is some insight as to what may be involved and how this thing could turn out. Anybody else have any thoughts/experiences with something like this? Would appreciate any insight on this. Thanks. Keith
  8. Hey all. A guy I know took poession of a 57 F-100 in the spring of 94 from a guy he knows to get the truck ready for paint. RThy guy hireing to have the truck done said he was doing it to repay a debt that he owes to his boss at work. It has now been two years since my buddy has heard from this guy. My buddy found out the other day that the guy in question has now moved 150 miles away!!!This guy owes my buddy no monies as he has been paid for work done. But this behemoth of a truck takes up half of his garage! My friend (and myself) feel that there is not even a boss involved but that the truck actually belongs to the guy having the work done. We don't know why he would do that though, but the mystery boss has never been around to even see the truck. We also know that the truck was parked for two years at another place (not the owners house). I told my buddy it sounded fishy from the out-set but since the guy paid cash my buddy took the truck (which I would have as wellLOL). What are his options here? He knows he could just push it out in the street (he really doesn't to do that). This is a very nice truck as the cab is ready for paint. My friend wouldn't mind the truck taking up half of his garage if he owned it. He can't get a hold of the guy and the guy will not contact him and the truck has become a big pain in the butt for this guy. By the way, the guy (not the mystery owner) inspected the cab work (2 years ago) and loved it...said he would be back shortly with mo money. THis is even more strange seeing as how the guy does not even owe any money! I would love to hear some thoughts/ideas as maybe some have gone through this. Could my friend take the truck? At any rate , I will let you folks how this thing plays out. As always, thanks. I hope this is co-herent. Keith
  9. Thanks, once again for the "precise" inf. I have been running 87 and i will run some 89in it. What would be the symtoms of running octane that is not high enough for the application? Keith
  10. Greetings. I was just looking in my manual and it states my car uses 84 motor, 93 research. What does this mean? I have a 215 ci with 2v 9:1. Since I use the lowest octane, could i maybe benefit from going with a little higher octane? I am going to try it but wanted to get some feedback from you learned folks first. Thanks. Keith
  11. hard to believe this did not get an answser. Now I'm curious Keith <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
  12. I just wanted to announce that the problem has been solved. Thamks keith
  13. When I first joined this site, Mr. Crisp was the person that replied to my fist question on this board. Sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to the family. Keith
  14. I have a 98 ram van (1/2 ton) with a bad ball joint. I went to replace it and while it broke loose, it only spins in the hole as it is not pressed in, but threaded in. I have tried everything to get it out to no avail. I am now going to replace the upper control arm (unless i can get the ball joint out). The chiltons is vague (to say the least) on this procedure. If anyone is familiar with this procedure (upper control arm R&R)I would appreciate step by step instructions. What I need to know is will I have to remove the coil spring, or just take the tension off of it. Thanks much. BTW, I tried a Dodge van site as well as allpar with no help so I figured I would see if you folks could help. When I complete this task I will take it to the front-end shop and have it checked and aligned. Keith
