  1. I can tell you from experience to have the under body / front sub frame checked out thoroughly. My son bought a 94 LeSabre used several years ago and being in the Slat Belt here, should never have been given a pass on the Safety Check (required for insurance and ownership). It was so bad that he lost steering control two blocks from home when the body welds let go at the firewall! Can't say it is a common issue but... it is something to be aware of with all unibody vehicles. Good luck on your purchase.

Makes some sense regarding the extra centre body mount if one thinks about it. Without the solid metal roof helping to stiffen / distribute any frame flexing, having the body bolted more solidly would help I guess. Can tell you from experience though, keep your arm away from the door and body gap when cruising over a set of RR tracks! 🙁
  3. Yes Gary, we really get beat up on things ordered from the States, seems worse now more than ever. This and the fact our dollar exchange makes the 90.00 US purchase costs us 120.44 (as of today) just well... as you stated, It Is What It Is. I thought Amazon shipped free?
  4. Thanks Joe. Lot's more to do before applying some paint but will poke at it when I feel I can. I want to get the Special in order as soon as I can.
  5. Pete, Would it be possible to get contact information of your friend with this Buick? I can be reached via email (cwcltd@mdirect.net) or PM. Thanks in advance, Doug
  6. After dinner went out to the Limited and decided to work on cleaning up the frame a bit as sitting on a rolling stool wasn't as tough as bending over the dash. Doing what I can, when I can.
  7. Decided to tackle the Special today. Raised the top in the garage and looked at getting the headlight switch out first. Man is that thing buried down in there... It might look easy to reach down in there to get the electrical plug off but... I then thought to take out the speedometer with the hopes of gaining more access. That proved just as frustrating as the fourth nut (on the bottom lower left) is about as inaccessible. If the windshield was out MAYBE things would be easier so... laid things out making notes for the re-installa
  8. Hello Kevin, Welcome to '58 Buick ownership and these Forums! I can't say for sure that it is a vent but all my Buick's have the tube and no other hose connection to it so... Guess I should look in the Chassis manual and see if it explains the function. (not my specialty) Yours looks like it is spewing some fluid and might need some internal attention. Is your car on the road? Doug
  9. Pete, Looking for prices for a few things on the parts car. Could you reply to my PM's please. Thanks, Doug
  10. Replacing some dash instruments in 48 degree weather... Then 5 days later... There are better days ahead!
  11. I need to get this one out on the road again.
  12. Missed "the Big Storm" yesterday and last night but had maybe 4-5 inches. Feel bad for those of you that did get more but that was enough for me right now... Took care of ours for the wife and grabbed a coffee to do a customers then Mom's after which I went over to the Special. Figured this was a good time to walk around to see if the critters were trying to back get in... Looks like I displaced the whole family!! So far looks like the chicken wire is holding. Weather is supposed to be in the 40's on Sunday so will see
  13. Experienced this early this afternoon... I have a habit of using the street which has a light at the entrance & exit to our local College because, there is a light. I could use other streets to access this major cross town road but sometime traffic is way too busy!! As I pull up to the red light I see this fellow standing in the through lane (naturally on his phone). With traffic unusually light the signal turns green for us and notice the fellow proceeding ahead but that he is on a skateboard. Somewhat stunned I watch as he then goes right, crossing the centre line (again n
  14. Looking closer but can't tell, does that dash pad have any cracks in it?
  15. Think you would be travelling Fort Erie way or Windsor? Personally if it was me and located where you are I think the Fort Erie route would be more scenic. Looking forward to seeing you and Glenda there.
  16. OK, OK, it's the thought that counts... LOL
  17. I brought this model back out to sit on my shelf for awhile in my newly remodelled computer (Buick) room. With have two more I'll rotate them to keep it interesting.
  18. I eventually brought the parts to the Special today but not till after being at Mom's. I've mentioned getting the chicken wire from her place and should say that it is coming from a screened in garden Dad built to keep the squirrels away from his beloved strawberries. Both Mom & dad were raised on small farms and having gardens were natural things to have. Mom let this one go after Dad passed as it was producing too much more than she could eat (or give away) and with the wood frame deteriorating, told me to remove it. it felt sort of sad to tear down something that yo
  19. You know Joe she (a.k.a. me) will be even happier when I get that speedometer, radio and small dash pad back together that you were able to provide for me! Many, many Thanks! 🏁
  20. Gathered up the items that are going in the dash to replace the things not working up to specs. I will be taking them over to the Special today and see what I can get accomplished after a few duties to perform. The replacement vinyl they are sitting on will remain here (in the heat) for when I'm ready to recover the dash panel top. It's a close match grain wise to the small dash pad that will also be put on.
  21. I've thought about it... I wondered about spray foam too. The vinyl is pretty hard (dried out?) so would be afraid of cracking it more than it is. Do you think heat would soften it up enough to become somewhat pliable? If you notice in the one picture it is cracked on one of the embossed seams. Took a guy for a ride (once..) and he just naturally had to squeeze the pad and... Haven't seen him for some time.
