  1. Imminent loss of garage forces sale of my beloved 1961 Eldo Biarritz convertible. This very rare model had a production run of 1450. Car is Jade with Sandlewood interior. This car has traveled to Saratoga Springs NY, York PA, Greenbelt MD and Westchester NY for tours and meets. A great looking dependable driver. Asking $30,000.00. Contact Bernie via email dunbar53@optonline.net for further information. Thanks!
  2. If no one minds, I would like to mention that my 1932 REO is for sale. The car is posted on eBay, and is item #110109786915. This is an unusually original car. Thanks for your consideration. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1932-REO-...1QQcmdZViewItem Regards, Bernie
  3. Your post is quite intriguing. You give a lot of mechanical specifications, of things that are in correct working order, so the fuel consumption should not be excessive. Certainly 8 miles per gallon is a little harsh, considering the price per gallon nowadays. I've owned a 1953 6219 for several years, and have never had the courage to check the mileage. I know it can't be wonderful, but then again, I also know it isn't bad. Wild guess? around 15 MPG. If the car is functioning properly, with no fuel leaks, there are other extenuating circumstances: and this can be funneled into the category of usage. When my '53 gets run (which isn't often enough <grin>) it goes out for a good run. A short warm-up period enables the motor to function well, and after that, it is gingerly put on the road. I try to avoid rides only around the block, or just up to the gas station. If there is a show to go to, the show is normally a decent distance. The worst miles a car can go (and the worst miles for fuel consumption) is while the car is warming up. If your car is well detailed and, upon occasion, trailered to shows, that would explain the fuel usage right there. Another idea is city vs highway mileage. I have a 1953 Buick with a dynaflow transmission. If that car gets 8 MPG around the city, it is doing well. However, 15 MPG on the highway is also fair. Wish you luck with your beautiful car, and hope you get all the glitches worked out on it. Regards, Bernie
  4. Although factory documentation is the definitive answer to most questions of authenticity, there are times when a field judge will want *something* to back up his decisions. After questioning the team captain, it is possible that secondary documentation will make a field judge more comfortable about his decision. More like a case of "I thought this was correct, but just wanted to be sure." If you have what you consider to be a copy of an informative magazine article with you, it can't hurt to show it, if there is a question. That way the team captain can make his decision more intelligently. Just my 2¢ worth.
  5. Mr. Earl is correct. When these cars were new, the wipers operated satisfactorily. If the system is in good repair, there is no reason you should have to endure slow wipers under load. The most common causes (all stated in the thread) are the vacuum chamber of the fuel pump, a leaky vacuum line, or a bad diaphragm in the wiper motor. I always go for the fuel pump first. People love to customize nice original cars, simply as an expedient solution. Installing electric wipers circumvents the problem. Wish you luck. Bernie
  6. Yes!! I had forgotten to mention this was the 50th Anniversary model. Back in the '50s, Buick liked to keep the Special a year behind on everything, but for '53 they gave it the sweepspear side trim, and the gorgeous steering wheel, with the 50th anniversary logo in the center. The steering wheel in this car is in incredible shape, and makes the total driving experience even nicer. I apologize for getting a little wordy about this car. Even after all these years, it still has the ability to evoke emotions. Bernie
  7. 1953 Buick Special, looking for a new home. Has been a member of the family for 15 years, and has served well. Straight 8 engine and Dynaflow Transmission have never been touched, as there has been no need. Cosmetic work done by previous owner 20 years ago, and still looks good. Ridge Green body has been repainted, Terrace Green roof is original and shines, but paint is worn.
