  2. hello I am working on a 1917 chassis only and need to rplace the engine...NOT SALVAGEABLE...Can the engine be revmoed without the transmission?? 5. Thanks all further examination of this engine found that on a previous rebuild the "mechanic" failed to install the bolt that hold each piston's wrist pin so the bolt slid back and forth badly ridging the cylinder wall..ON ALL CYLINDERS!!!In so far that it was bored 30 over it would need to be remachined to like 60 over plus the cracks (4) I have decided to take this engine (and me too) out of its misery and scrap it!!! I am now on the hunt for a rebuildable early 4 cylinder motor.
  6. Hello found that the 1918 I am restoring has several hairline cracks in the waterjacket on the cylinder side of the block. Water weeps from them. Other than scrap the whole thing and search for a replacement motor have any of you used JB Weld or TIG welding or some other technique? I Have not found any internal cracks as yet. Thanks
  7. Hello all and my best to all on this memorial Day weekend. To honor our veterans I spend this weekend at FDR's home at Hyde Park New York . Here I and about 100 other historian/reenactors bring military history alive with equipment uniforms and vehicles used in our nation's conflicts. This year I brought my 1916 touring car which just underwent a 4 year restoration in the configuration of an "Army" Dodge. Here fresh of the home of Franklin Roosevelt are a few pictures of the DB at the event. Visitors to the event showed tremendous interest in the Dodge's contribution to the military during and before WW1. www.geocities.com/bob487thbg/hp2.JPG www.geocities.com/bob487thbg/hp6.JPG
  8. Hello yes they are . I believe they are called step bolts . They have wide slightly domed heads and are about 1 1/4 in long. Hard to save when you do a total rebuild as they are often rusted solid. I found them for sale at a specialty fastener supplier in multiples of 100 so I never got them... Maybe someone else has a source for only 6 bob

  15. might want to check with JOHN'S ENTERPRISES in CA. He restored the sockets on my 16 touring car. He may also have some sets available. If you get a set needing work HE IS THE BEST although slow. The set I sent him were pretty rusted out. He replaced each socket reusing all the scissors and castings . Results excellent. Cost about 650 to redo a complete set. Also I am in CT and I have a top maker...Excellent
