  1. I am not getting very far with mine right now because of a house project I am undertaking, so it could be a few months before I get to work on it again. I would love to hear how yours is coming in the mean time so I know what I am up against. Thanks for the response, good luck with the build.
  2. sorry it took so long to respond I am building a new house and have been very busy. I may be interested but would like to know what is there and what is missing please let me know.
  3. hey, sorry it took so long to reply, I am building a new house right now and have been extremely busy. You said that it would be a very expensive path, how so? please elaborate on this for me. I don't doubt it, but I would like to know the specifics. I seemed a heck of a lot less expensive that trying to modernize my 57 chassis. Please fill me in.
  4. I am looking for a 71-75 Riviera to use as a donor car for the chassis for my 57 2 door sedan. These model Riv's have the exact same wheel base as my car and a darn close width. I would like a running driving car as I will use the running gear as well. I will rebuild all of it but it would be nice to have everything in working condition to ensure a good start. I am not looking for something to restore so a $5,000 donor would not make much since to me I have seen some going for 1000 to 1500 but have been a little late getting to them. If you can help I would love to hear from you either by forum or feel free to call at 417-872-6126 thanks, Ryan
  5. you are correct, I did my homework today and found out that the 71-75 Riv. is the exact same length at 122" but am still searching for the width measurement, found nothing online . My 57 buick has a rear width of 59.5 from center of tread to center of tread on rear. Since these cars have O offset that will be a plenty accurate number for measuring for a donor, as I will be running aftermarket rims I can play with the offset #s to get things right. So if any other readers of the thread have a 71-75 Riviera would be kind enough to measure there car center of tread to center of tread in the rear (if you have stock wheel specs) I would appreciate a response. Thanks
  6. I am looking for the following 57 buick parts: -rear bumper -any chrome acessories (interior or exterior) -most of the dash nobs or switches If someone has a parts car it may just as helpful to discuss what all is there that might be in better condition than mine. Most of the things I am looking for are there just not in the best of shape with the exception of the rear bumper which I do not have.
  7. Hi I am also new, and have a question/favor to ask of you. As you are a owner of an 84 le sabre you may be able to help me. If you could find out for me either by chassis manual or by measuring from center of hub to center of hub from front to back the wheel base of your car, I would greatly appreciate it. I am building a 57 buick street rod and have been informed that the best way to rid yourself of compexity and exspense of finding or making performance parts for this car that I could simply put the body on a GM b-body chassis. This would include any of the various GM line cars such as Caprice/Delta/Le Sabre/Park Ave , you ger the point. In keeping with the Buick theme I would ideally like to use the Buick donor. If you know anything about this swap or could get me those measurements it would sure help alot. Thanks
  8. Have been given a suggestion by a fellow member in order to ultimately be happy with my 57 buick which I want to big block and posi, he has suggested simply making a chassis swap in order to get disk brakes, posi, and 455 engine. It does seem to make good sense, but what all does this entail, what is the proper donor car, etc.... I would love to hear from anyone who has made this swap and what to look for and look out for.
  9. What kind of cars and what years will this body just fit right on? And what all does it require. That does sound quite interesting and much easier than making change after change. I would love to know what my options are for swaps. I would gladly sell the 57 chassis to someone who was doing a true resto. I can definately appreciate a stock vintage car, it just does not suit my interests for this particular car. Thanks for the suggestions.
  10. The entire car only has 72,000 miles. It had been sitting for a while in a garage in Ill. when I bought it. I needs a few things such as bumper ends, gas tank(currently has fuel cell), the car has virtually no rust. I like the body lines of 57 but am not a big fan of the closed driveline set up. The nailhead runs good but I am after a high performace street rod not just a strong driver. I do see your point as I have heard the same thing from the locals that have seen the car, but its just not my bag. Thanks for the reply and I can appreciate a buick lovers point of view.
  11. I have a 1957 buick special 2 door sedan that I am planning on customizing in the near future. I will be pulling the original 364 and dynaflow witch have only 7200 miles on them, in favor of a 455/th400 combo. I realize this will require changing rearend, crossmember, etc. I have made up my mind that this is what I am doing I am just curious what I am up against. Anyone else made this swap?
