  1. I need to acquire either valve stems or tubes for the 7.60 x 15 tires that I purchased for my 1949 Windsor. I contacted Coker, where I purchased the tires; they were aware of the oval valve stems required, but do not sell them. Coker refereed me to Universal Tire, where I received the same response. Universal suggested that I install tubes in these tires. Does anyone know where I can find the oval valve stems required to mount my new tires? Would I be better off using tubes? I seek your advise and recommendations Than you.
  2. Does anyone know of a reliable and competent shop in Central Ohio (preferably metro Columbus) that can service my 1949 Chrysler Windsor? I need to have the car tuned and all the fluids changed. I am also looking for someone who can do engine and transmission repairs in the future, if required.

  5. I just purchased BFG 7.60 x 15 wide whitewall tires for my 1949 Windsor from Coker tire. The local chain tire stores are all willing to mount and balance these tires. Are there any precautions that must be followed to properly mount and balance these tires? Can chain tire stores align the wheels on vintage cars (king pins rather than ball joints)?

  8. It is time to replace the 30 year tires on my 1949 Chrysler Windsor. I am thinking about buying BF Goodrich 7.60x15 3 3/8 inch wide whitewall tires from Coker. I have been told that 1949 whitewalls were very wide; are 3 3/8 width whitewalls the right width? Does anyone have any experience with these tires? Does anyone have a recommendation for alternatives to these tires?

  12. Dan, According to my copy of Catalog of American Car ID Numbers 1950-59, here are the 1952 Saratoga codes; Serial number starting with 76,512,101, the only series in the 76 million range. Body plate: body type C55. According to my book, the body number plate did not include body style, color codes or trim codes. The engine number is on the top of the block, just back of the water pump. 1952 V8 engines numbers start with C52-8-1001. I hope this helps.
  13. The car does not squeak when it backs up. The squeak is intermittent, i.e. squeak, squeak, squeak. The squeak sounds like it is coming from the left rear. the car brakes straight - no pulling to either side.
  14. I took my 1949 Windsor out for its first spring drive. I drove about 3 miles at low speeds. I noticed a squeak that sounded like it could be a brake shoe dragging - the squeak got worse when I turned left and went away when I turned right. As the car came to a stop, the squeaking ended. Does anyone have any ideas of the cause of this squeak and what I should do about it?
  15. I recently acquired a 1949 Windsor with Fluid Drive. It has two ranges - a low range with first and second gears and a high range with third and fourth gears. At what speed should you shift from low range to high range?
