  1. Another one that sticks in my mind is the black '55 Chevy that is rolled in "American Graffitti"--it can be pretty clearly seen to be not the really nice one that Harrison Ford drives for most of the movie. Trying to understand why the Karmann Ghia destruction in this recent commercial bothers me so much. From the external shots it does look like a very straight, complete car. That, plus the fact that it's on so damn often lately, perhaps.
  2. Hey Doug, sorry I missed you at Hershey. Had a real nice chat with Jim at the car show on Saturday, though. He is looking and sounding great. Sounds like he's keeping real busy with the Museum. P.S.: Did you see Diane's "new" '73 Pinto at the car show? I uploaded a few images of it to the AACA Photo Post area earlier this week, but apparently they haven't been approved yet, so you'll have to stay tuned. Meanwhile, I have one Hershey '04 shot posted at the CT Pinto Registry page: http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/CPR.html (click the "Misc. Pinto News" link). P.P.S. Also see if you can find it in the attached image...
  3. Happy Birthday Snap. I turned 45 earlier this week. Ouch!
  4. That would be a comforting thought, Al. I did notice what appears to be a large crack in the dash pad in the very brief in-car shot--suggesting that it may not have been a "primo" specimen. I still think it sends a bad overall message though. I'll try to attach a (sad) related still shot I found after much searching of the previously mentioned very odd Sharp web site...
  5. It's been on a lot lately (esp. during the baseball playoffs/world series, I think), and maybe my old-VW-enthusiasm is also showing a bit, but does anyone have any feelings about the nice-looking vintage Karmann Ghia that's driven into a swimming pool for an "artsy" commercial (apparently?) for some Sharp-brand television? http://www.moretosee.com/index_flash.html (click on the English-UK link) Kind of bums me out and makes me think that I don't want to buy anything from the Sharp company...
  6. Hope this works (link at Hemmings site): http://www.hemmings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/clubs.detail/HMN_CLUB_ID/1452525
  7. Bob, wasn't there also a Gardner located out in eastern CT, owned by a man who used to be affiliated with the old "Shoreline Antique Auto Club"? Just a vague recollection on my part...
  8. Thank you 1937hd45 (couldn't find your name?). I used to frequent the forum a bit "in the old days," and then got inspired to rejoin today when I got worried about the dates listed on the Hershey activity request form (that arrived in the AA issue that arrived yesterday), and decided I'd better try to ask around a bit. With my two growing kids I also don't get around to nearly the number of old car events that I used to, but I'm always hopeful to try & catch one here and there. Hershey is an annual "must do" for both the Mrs. and I, so we haven't missed one of those for quite some time. Not much going on, old-car-wise, this weekend in Connecticut, it appears, though there is a nice-sounding one in Bethlehem (looks to be northwest of Waterbury, and just south of Litchfield) that I read about at the CT Council of Car Clubs web site www.ctccc.org, I think events calendar--MAY be able to sneak out to that one for a little while on Sunday morning (7/4), perhaps with an old VW. Have to see... Thanks again, Steve
  9. Hey, Thanks Doug! Same back at you--Mr. Walters is a 1st class guy (as is our mutual old car associate Mr. Siegfried--say hi to Jim when you speak to him for me please Doug), and an asset to the old car hobby. No Michael Moore fan at this end either (the slogan in my signature is more than just old car-related...). Happy Independence Day weekend to one and all, Steve
  10. Oops--it looks like HPOF is for 35 year old and older cars (per the online judging manual--very convenient, by the way)--but DPC looks doable for the '73 Pinto...(then HPOF in 2008)...
  11. Steve, you are awesome, thank you. Can I make one more request? We would like to register *two* cars for the car show this year (instead of our usual one; in addition to our '54 VW, my wife just bought a real nice original '73 Pinto, and she's thinking it might make a good HPOF candidate???), and (um, I guess this is technically a second request) I also went through the process of getting a PA tax number just so I could request a flea market space, so I'd like to apply for that also. I'll go back and try the registration link again next chance I get... Thanks again! Steve
  12. Hi, Just rec'd our May-June 2004 issue in the mail yesterday (7/1/2004), and will be Express Maiing in my Activity Request form for Hershey in today. I hope this doesn't close us out of participating this year, since I noticed the "Mailed on July 2, 2004" notation there on the card. I also found the hyperlink on the AACA main page (per the suggestion to register online at www.AACA.org on the form) to be inoperative when I just checked it a few minutes ago... Thank you and keep up the great work with AACA and Antique Automobile! Steve Mierz P.S.: A vintage VW winner for the S.F. Edge trophy! Very Cool! It's been a while...
