Alex brings a much-needed historical perspective to the discussion! Great job Alex and all of the Auto Lab Radio team! Thanks again Alex for the heads-up too, so I knew to tune in!

Brian: There was a sign at the BCA's Hershey Flea Market space last week indicating that BCA members who signed in would receive a gift. I waited patiently and eventually was able to sign in (didn't remember my exact member number except for the 47xxx part), and was presented with this very cool pen, wrapped in a sealed plastic wrapper. What a pleasant surprise! Thanks again BCA!

Like with Alex, we've also known our long-time buddy Rich thru the old VW and old car hobby for many, many years, and always love catching up with him at Hershey. It was perhaps not surprising that we saw Rich right after we saw Alex, since I think their flea market spaces are adjoining. Love those guys!

From Hershey 2014 for this morning, here's a photo of Diane and our buddy Alex, who we have known for MANY years (30+, I'd estimate) thru the old VW hobby--and the old car hobby in general as well, now that he is a "Confirmed Hershey Regular," and not to mention a fully certified AACA Judge as well! Never heard of these, but apparently they were a Danish marque, manufactured 1919 thru 1960--wow, that's some history! "sonefish" on the forums, who we later saw on the Saturday car show field with his "Superoo" vintage race car! Ron's a great friend who we've known thru the old VW hobby for many years, and it's always a pleasure seeing him!

What do you know, we survived the Blizzard of 2015 in not too bad shape, here in Southern Connecticut... All shoveled out and ready for the next one... Anyway, getting back to our ongoing Hershey 2014 tour, we are still in the Hyman, Ltd. space, and took a couple of shots of a positively magnificent 1919 Locomobile (Bridgeport, CT manufactured, I believe)... Good morning and Happy Wednesday!... From the ongoing Hershey 2014 tour, we are still at the Hyman, Ltd. space, ogling all the beautiful and exclusive cars that were on display/for sale... Here's a car I never saw before, a 1968 "AC Frua," which appears to have sold, based on a notation I found on this page: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C498140 ... Here's the text of the (apparent) original Hyman, Ltd. ad for the car: "...AC’s 428 is a beautiful, fast, luxurious and exceedingly rare high performance gran turismo. With gorgeous coachwork designed and constructed by Pietro Frua on a strong, rigid tubular frame with fully independent coil spring suspension built by AC Cars and derived from the coil spring Cobra 427, the AC 428 was a serious competitor to Jensen and Aston Martin, with performance comparable with the European exotics from Ferrari and Maserati at a fraction of the cost. The chassis was developed from that used in the legendary Cobra 427, but with bigger, stronger longitudinal tubes and a 6-inch longer wheelbase with four-wheel coil spring and wishbone suspension along with a limited slip differential. Power came from Ford’s FE block 428 cubic inch V-8, similar to that found in the Galaxie and the Shelby Mustang GT 500. It had immense torque — 426 lb-ft in any form — and 345 to 475 horsepower in highly tuned form. The 428’s gran turismo character lent itself to the police package specification C-6 3-speed automatic, and the vast majority are fitted with this transmission. It is equipped with several luxury features like power windows and an AM/FM cassette radio but, like all AC 428s, it has brutally effective performance that is impressive even by modern standards. Autocar described the AC 428’s torque at full throttle as “shattering” and the magazine went on to record a 145 mph top speed and 5.4 second 0-60 time. An elegantly styled luxury tourer with a race-proven chassis and a strong, flexible, reliable engine, this wonderfully presented and showable classic AC 428 is rare, extremely desirable, and intoxicatingly fast. $199,500.00 US..." From our ongoing Hershey 2014 browse, we kind of made a quick swing thru some of the "Hyman Ltd." cars that were kind of set up on the grass at the edge of the car corral and the flea market, and ended up looking at this super cool & super-unusual little red 1958 Fiat sports car for a little while--at the expense of paying much of any attention to the super cool & super-unusual (& CT-manufactured!) Kelsey Motorette 3-wheeler that was parked right next to it! For now, here's an overall view showing both cars, and then next installment we'll take a look at that cool Fiat from several angles... Not optimal picture-taking, as it was parked closely between two other vehicles at the time we came across it, but, still, a real treat to see & study this stunningly beautiful Ford!

It appears the very next space beyond the Checker & VVR driver training models was a space with a SPECTACULAR collection of vintage automobile radiator cap mascots--WOW! We remembered running into them within the last couple of years, where they showed us the *squirrel* mascot that we LOVED (have to see if I can find a photo), and, what do you know, upon enlarging one of my hastily-snapped photos from this year, it appears they still have it...
