  1. I always get a kick out of these sellers who have a "good running" car but can't spend a little time or money to make the car so the buyer can take it for a test drive, yet want good running car prices.
  2. I have a 1937 Buick Special and had an overheating issue on a car I've owned for46 years that had never overheated (including the 100 degree temperature in NC). I removed the guts of the bypass put in the freeze plug but it didn't fix the problem. Before pulling the radiator I investigated further and found the lower radiator hose was collapsing (seems the newer hose I replaced the old one with was thinner). I put a spring in the lower hose now I can't get the darn thing over 165 degrees no matter what the temperature. It might be needed on the 320 engine but I don't think the conversion is necessary on the early 248 if everything is working properly. I'm going to be putting my old bypass back in. Carl
  3. Oregon Desert model 45 posted this 5 years ago and didn't own these parts. He posted a Craigslist link that someone else was trying to sell these parts.
  4. Hi Vince, If these are your fenders they do look nice. https://www.ebay.com/itm/154940215739?hash=item24132811bb:g:UnYAAOSwUjtiUW3M Just an fyi 1937 and 1938 fenders do not interchange do to the different grills and hoods. I would say your fenders are for a 1937. (1) I don't see the battery vent on the inside right fender to cool the battery that a 1938 fender would have had and (2) the small 90 degree hood latch on top of the fender would not have been used on a 1938. Good luck. Carl
  5. You can widen your search to include 1937 Buicks series 40 that came with the Stromberg carburetor. See attached picture from a parts book. Carl
  6. If you have your old rear window glass you can just take it to a glass shop and they could cut you a new one.
  7. If it's the same as those on a 1937 Buick most regular auto parts supply places have them. Couple weeks ago I bought some from Autozone.
  8. I agree with Stude Light about the differences between the two oils. However I'm in a minority when I say, I still use non detergent oil in my older cars. The reason I've never switched is my cars do not have a full flow filter, or any filter for that matter and I would rather have sludge in the pan then have the oil trap and hold the combustion byproducts, dirt and engine deposits in suspension and keep carrying it over the bearings etc until the oil is changed.
  9. Not sure either. They should arrive Saturday. Hope they live up to your expectations. Carl
  10. Hi, Thank you for your interest. I have sent you a message through this forum.
  11. Wayne was a nice guy and had a lot of nice cars and things.
  12. For what it's worth, this is my experience and thoughts. My car originally had a Marvel carburetor on it, but when I bought my 37 in 1975 it had a Carter WDO on it with a manual choke. I drove it that way for many, many years without problems. It wasn't right but it ran good. Being my car is fairly original except for paint I eventually decided to return it to a more normal setup. Having heard horror stories about the Marvel I opted to replace the WDO with a Stromberg AA-1. I already had a correct manifold, well used AA-1 and choke. I had the carburetor and choke rebuilt, mounted the manifold and discovered the throttle linkage is different than that from the Marvel. I called up Dave and got the correct linkage. The car starts and runs alright, everything works properly but the car doesn't run as good as it did with that old WDO. I'm not switching back to the WDO, but there are times I think about whether I made a mistake taking it off the car. Bottom line are you having the car judged? How important is originality to you? Carl
  13. My solution for stubborn tires was to put a steel plate on the tire so when depressed it would be just shy of the wheel then drive a truck up the plate. Reverse wheel and same procedure for the other bead.
  14. Not sure if this is still available so I'd check with the seller (not mine). https://www.ebay.com/itm/393543313712?nma=true&si=1PlV0CR4HR2JVXEfvbug0uI7INI%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  15. I think it depends on the company or service provider. I had major issues with a hard wired phone service and would be without a phone for weeks waiting for a repairman to come out. At the time I owned stock in the company and I not only wrote a letter to the CEO I sent a copy to every person on the board of directors listed in their annual report. Every single letter was returned unopened. Obviously they figured because they had a monopoly they couldn't be bothered. I no longer have their service.
  16. You can call him and see, but I don't think so. I have seen seen him at a number of the National meets. He's best reached at 763-427-3460 between 4 and 7 pm Central.
  17. If you can't find a buyer you could also give Dave Tacheny a call and see if he is interested. I know he has purchased items from a friend.
  18. Your prices sound reasonable to me, but like Rock10 said there is a small demand and you have to find the right person.
  19. Not sure if I would have a used one and don't have a chamce t look for a wee or so, but Bob's might be an option. https://bobsautomobilia.com/shop/starters-parts/37-41-rebuilt-starter-soleniod-su-rexa/ Carl
  20. Never bought from them, but seems they've been in business for a while. Not sure how much shipping from Australia would be, but small package might not be bad. For what it's worth check them out; https://vintageandclassicreproductions.com/product_brands/1937-1938-buick/ Carl
  21. Larry I'm sorry to hear of the accident, glad you weren't hurt. As I recall your car, I would think your car was a 3+. Go for more and good luck!
  22. I don't like making a habit of driving any old car on the highway because people don't take into consideration they don't stop like a modern car. Back in 1975 I did drive my 37 Buick from Maine home on the NY Toll road all they way across NY, Pa and a little bit of Ohio at 55-60 mph (legal speed at the time) and it wasn't even until mid 90's I did anything to the engine and that was a valve job. Course I was younger, the car was new to me and nobody ever told me the car couldn't do it. Any old car is more pleasant to enjoy on secondary roads.
  23. Pity if I had one it would save a lot in shipping. I think there is still one in the nose piece in the back barn but don't remember anything about condition. I'll try and check this weekend. We'll miss you. Last couple years I've been afraid it might be the last year for the hotel.
