  1. I would like to get some feedback on whether or not to change the 6 volt system on my D-8 to a 12 volt system. I'm in the process of budgeting expenses to do the electrical but frankly, I don't know which direction I should be going with to get pricing and where to start and where to stop. 12 volt evidently make head lights brighter and the engine easier to start, but are there other benifits (or downsides)? 6 volt is the original wiring which makes going back to 6 volt attractive. Down sides and upsides for both would be graciously appreciated. I suspect I should consider rebuilding the starter, regulator, and generator as well as replacing the wiring harness. What about all of the lamps, the lamp fixtures, the blinker switches, the light switches, etc. Thanks John Stoddard John Stoddard
  2. I'm getting my "new" 38 Dodge registered with the State. I'm trying to determine which numbers to use as a VIN. I've found 3 different numbers: a. on the passanger door jamb "serial number 30023216" b. on a little plate on the fire wall "D8 3660 BC" c. adjacent to the little plate are numbers imbedded into the fire wall itself "3D 2598". Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a photo of the fire wall numbers. Evidently, there are numbers on the engine as well? Are there other numbers that have meaning?
  3. I ended up with a cherry 1938-D8 but the interior has mice damage and stentch. It is so bad it is almost impossible to store it in my garage. I am thinking about just getting a cheap fabric, something that I like, but before I did, I thought I'd get some feedback on attempting to go original. I've heard going to Europe for "Mohair" original fabric is a choice..... Questions: 1. Has anyone done the original interior and if so, what did it cost? 2. Is there a problem with going to a "cheap" fabric and then getting the interior done first cabin later? 3. Any ideas on where to get original style fabrics? 4. There is a lot of stitching in the upholstry (photo of the door). Any idea on how this was done (part of the fabric, hand stitched, etc.) Thanks for any feedback. John
  4. Thanks Thom, The car is a 2 door and the body is in pretty good shape. I've tried every angle I could think of attempting to find a D8 for sale. I've not been able to find even 1 in any condition. If I could find the serial number, I could also get details that would hopefully give me original paint colors, original engine, the actual model. Evidently, there are 3 differnt models for the D8 2 door.... Thanks for your response, I greatly appreciat it!
  5. Hello, I've got a great opportunity to buy an original 1938 D8 from the 2nd owner. I really don't know what to pay for it. The body is really perfect (been garaged most of it's life) but he interior has some mice damage. The Firewall has a number of D8 3360 BC. I've looked everywhere and thought I'd become a member here....I'm sure someone has a handle on this model!! Thanks for your willingness to share information to me!
