My first thought was to put a helicoil in it . But I am concerned that it might just be another place for a compression leak. I posted this question in the hopes that some one had experienced this problem and had made a successful repair.

The 3/4 in. threads in the head of my 1911 AB are stripped out is there any reason why I should not drill and tap this out for a 7/8 bolt?
