I agree, as far as the brakes go. Check 'em.
As far as the king pin front end goes, you pull one of the grease fittings on the upper control arm and adjust it with an Allen wrench. Take your car to a non-national chain front end shop, with your manual.

That is a pretty looking car, but it is WAY overpriced. The nicest 63 I ever saw went for in the $25k range.
This car wouldn't win a Silver in BCA judging as it sits now. Wrong wheels/ tires. Original seats/ trunk material is worn. Incorrect inner fender color with painted fasteners. Wrong battery. Those were just the things that stood out to me. It is a nice cruiser, don't get me wrong, but just be aware of some of the issues once you get past the shiny red paint.
I mistakenly looked at another Wildcat convertible when I was looking for this one. Current bid is under 10 grand at this point. Looks like a better deal to me. Neither has AC so that is a moot point.
Good luck to your friend, I would wait and see, personally.

It's my guess that you nailed it in your topic headline. They're just ignorant.
I assume they are new to cruises in general. There is a huge difference in a cruise and a show. People bring all kinds of cars to local parking lot, hangout type, kick the tires, meet up with your buddies, cruises, and actual car shows. We have several hundred cars come out to a grocery store parking lot once a month. Several hundred "classics", hot rods, street rods, mini trucks, Corvettes, etc. If you don't like the cars or people, you just walk by. For the most part, restored car guys talk to other restored car guys. Old school hot rod guys don't necessarily talk trash with the street rodders, but they don't want to be associated with a fiberglass 32 Ford, even though their cars are similar. It's just the nature of this type of "show". I don't enjoy looking at a 10 year old S-10 pickup slammed to the ground with neon lights under it, but I wouldn't say they don't belong. It's just silly. (plus those guys look like they could/ would kick my a$$ if I chose to say something inflammatory) !
Cars are funny things to get that worked up about. If you don't like it (as they say) "Change the channel" !

The other engine was just a rodent restroom in cylinder 8. No big loss...

I finally got down to Seguin for my turn in the passenger seat. Willie did an amazing job. The truck is gorgeous and runs great. If I had known that little 264 could boogie like that, I wouldn't have given it to him.
(Hijack alert!!!)
I took my 55 on a shakedown ride to make sure everything worked right before setting out to Colorado. Seguin is 60 miles from Austin, but I drove through the hill country to get there (about 120 miles there). I have been doing little tweaks on it to make sure it will show well AND make it to the Nationals. It was about 90 degrees on the way home. Temp gauge stayed very comfortably smack dab in the middle of the gauge and zero vapor lock (yay). After discovering that the duct going from the trunk evaporator to the clear tube in the back had become disconnected, I actually had cold air in the car! Duh... Worked as well as can be expected. That was the extent of my prep. Gonna change the oil and check the plugs, then "take off like I know what I'm doing".

My Special was originally factory ordered tri tone. Dover white roof, Cascade blue middle, Cameo beige below the sweepspear. Along with two-tone grey seats, black dash, etc., there were a lot of colors going on. When I restored it, I decided to make the lower body white (two tone sandwich). I just didn't like the color blind original owners choice in paint scheme.

I'd say it's the people. The only other forum that is more animated is the HAMB (hot rod guys). I don't go to other forums regularly, other than bicycle forums, but even there, there are know it all types that don't communicate well or are downright mean. I like smart-a$$ comments from knowledgable people who know when a real problem needs to be solved (my car won't start) and when the razzing needs to occur (my car won't start).

I just got my Bugle today with the candidates profiles. I have to say this... Wow! This is the first year I can remember that ALL of the candidates look good to me. I know or have met three of the four guys running, and the one I haven't met has an impressive profile / resume. I know you have all posted on the forum and just want to thank you for running. My ballot will be filled out and mailed this year unlike (admittedly) years past.

Another option if there aren't spare torque tubes laying around would be to take a gasket to a metal fabrication shop and have them make one for you out of 3/8" steel. I would think it would cost less than buying a torque tube if you didn't have one.

I think I have seen them as a "kit" with five of the socket looking things and a straight "wrench". Maybe 7/8" to 1 1/2"???? If you need a LOT of torque, it may not work. Just when I saw the pic, that's what it reminded me of.

At least if it's on there, make sure wires are neatly wrapped and the installation is done well. None of us (politically speaking) want Big Brother taking over our lives, yet at least in Canada it seems EVERYBODY is insured. I've been rear ended 10 (THAT'S RIGHT TEN) times, to the point where I have very limited motion looking over my left shoulder. Three of those times were from drivers either completely uninsured, or driving with squirrely insurance. Not that it would make a lick of difference in my chiropractic bills, but at least I wouldn't be paying them personally, after my fine insurance company (USAA) decided I was all better. Auto theft is actually WAY DOWN here in Austin. Can't explain that.
Off topic...
Does anybody's local laws state that seatbelts are mandatory in cars that didn't come equipped that way? Just curious. I know that seatbelt usage is not only NOT penalized, but encouraged.

That looks a lot like a modern plumbing wrench that you remove shower valves with. Might check your local hardware store's plumbing section.

It could be restored, but there will be a serious search for the top frame!
