  1. A friend of mine is looking for a 56 or 57 continental, one in nice shape and a good driver, doesnt have to be show quality. anyone here know of one for sale? If so please IM me or send me an email pandamarie@jps.net
  2. I dont know of any web site to go to to find out about your car, but you can write to the ford museum and send them 20 buck along with your vin# and make and model and they will send you the build card for that car. I cant find my paper work right now but someone here will give you the correct address, if noy do a search and it will come up, this has been asked a few times here. By the way what kind of Mopars do you have?? I have a 70 440 6 pack challenger and a 69 Charger R/T and getting rady to pick up 3 more mopar one owner cars this month.
  3. When I had the top done on my 48 conv coupe they dug out the old tack strip and replaced it with a new type of foam tack strip, it holds better and wont rot away. I no longer have the guys address but his name is Barry Ward and thats also the name of his shop in Orangevale,Ca. He does the best tops I have ever seen. Mine was just put up for the first time in 8 months and after a day of being up there isnt a wrinkle in it anywhere.
  4. I drive my 48 Lincoln conv every chance I get and use to have vapor lock problems, the only problem I had was the heater hose running from the drivers side to the dash heater was running under the fuel bowl of the fuel pump creating a heat soak condition. Once moved I have had no more problems. I do have an electric pump just for back up on long trips as I dont carry a rebuild kit for the fuel pump.Check the way your hoses run.
  5. Thanks guys. It just the cable that broke everything else is in good shape. now to find someone that sells the right size cable. Thanks again
  6. I need an OD cable for my 41 Packard business coupe, Or is there a way to replace the cable??
  7. Anyone here interested in a 1 owner 67 newport custom, have all reciepts from time it was new, car is in very good shape inside and out and runs and drive lke new and has less than 60,000 mile on the clock. belonged to a friends grandfather who died and his wife is looking to sell it. will have picture of it by next weekend, may27th
  8. I had a 38 120 and currently a 41 120 and they are my favorite car to drive, next to my 40 180, they handle good ride smooth and last forever, as long as you change the fluids lube it and keep it tuned, only problem I had was finding brake springs for it when one of the original springs broke after some 65 years. Kanter has them though.
  9. Main jets are holley#51 when measured they are .048, im also running the power valves in both carbs, Stock Lincoln carbs. most people will tell you your vacuum will drop when putting on multiple carb but mine went up from 18hg to 20 hg.
  10. The picture you show looks like the pld style felpro gasket. with the old copper composit gaskets I use to trim the copper and compisite material back on one side to match the openings of the water jacket holes and then take the copper from the uncut side and wrap it through the hole so it was sealed like it came. time consuming but it works good and will give you more flow than even the new felpro gaskets. you cant do that with the gasket you are showing though.
  11. The part# I have from felpro for the improved head gasket is PN# 7250 B and for the complete engine gasket set it is FS 7250 B. I have these gaskets on my 48s engine now and they do make a difference. with my infrared thermometer the rear cylinders run 20 degrees cooler than what they did before and the temp is fairly consistant form front to back, I should mention I put a pair of SKIPs water pumps on the engine at the same time. My water temp stays at 160 while cruising and will go up to 180 when stuck in rush hour traffic.
  12. After catching an earfull last night from my wife about the 48 custom club coupe I was going to buyI have decided not to buy buy it now. Her Dad talked he into letting me know that I dont need another car and she let me know all about it last night. So instead of it sitting in the same spot for another 30 years if anyone is interested let me know and I will get you the guys #. She is really going to be pissed when I bring home my new Smith and Wesson 500.
  13. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">From the outside the 359 & the 288/327 look the same, except the 359 should have an aluminum head, and there is 9 plugs along the passanger side just above the oil pan, the 327/288 only have 5 (Feed holes to main bearings) and the serial #'s are different. </div></div> Just for my information, will the 327 9 main and the 359 crankshaft interchange? Now Im talking about the 9 main bearing engines only, and wouldnt you get more compression out of the iron head than the aluminum???
  14. well for some reason it wont let me post the pics. I will keep trying.
  15. I finally got my camera to work. Here is the only picture I took of the Pacifiac and a coupe of the 47 custom super 8. The place is well packed and hard to move around in, I know these cars have been in the same spot for at least 15 years.
  16. Did I say it had a 327?? If I did was was wrong, the pacifica has the 359 with 2 rods sticking through the side, he has a 327 engine to go with the car to replace the 359, Isnt the 359 just a bored and stroked 327 anyway? I dont know myself.
  17. The 282 in my 41 business coupe is the one I was looking at changing the intake to the buick 2x2 intake after some cutting and welding to make it fit. I was interested in knowing is the 288/327 intakes would fit on the 356 engine as I will have a few of each fairly soon and am looking at my best option for the most dependable power using packard parts for which ever engine I decide to use in the 41.
  18. Thanks for all the information. I am picking up a 327 saturday, and the guy im buying a 48 custom 8 club coupe from is giving me an extra 356 engine but will try to talk him into an extra 9 main 327 since they are less involved in the rebuild.
  19. I would like to know if the intake manifolds are interchangable between the 327 and the 356, also any that would change over on the 282?? I have an edmonds 2x2 intake looks like one for a buick that I will be modifing to fit a 282 but would rather use the 327 4 barrel intake if it will fit. Any help please
  20. these cars are in sacramento,Ca. I will post some pics when I get the camera to work. I am picking up the 48 custom coupe next week, the 47 2125 has a nice body and most of the chrome but needs complete restoration. he also has 4 more fastbacks mostly 48-50s one nice and 3 needing help.
  21. Well I got out to go look at the 47 2 door fastback custom super 8 today, not what I was expecting, nice straight body but needing a complete restoration, more work than my bad back can handle right now. But he also had a very nice 48 custom 8 fastback complete and in very nice shape, still a restoration project but nobody would complain with it sitting in the driveway for awhile and for the price I think im getting the 48 next week. In case anyone is interested he has a nice 54 Pacifica hardtop he wants to sell with and extra 327 9 main motor to go with it. The 48 still is all original and he even has a complete 356 engine to go along with it too.If I can get my camera to load the pics on the computer I will post some of the cars.
  22. I finally talked to the guy today. he plans on keeping the 46 and is going to sell the 47, but its not the nice one, he has another 47 super custom 8 with the engine pulled and missing a transmission but all the rest there, he says. I am going to go look at it this week and get some pictures. he wants 2000 for it. anything I should look for(model# etc) Glad my wife is gone till the end of the week. Will try to get some pictures of the 46 too just to post.
  23. Thats nice that Jerry told you the correct placement for your window in a 48 continential, I gave the placement for a 48 convertible coupe which you should know is different than the LC, the person that asked the question didnt specify which car he was looking for placement of the window. And since I dont see Jerry's name in the list of commitee experts looks like what you have been told is hear say. this is starting to sound like a spitting contest over why the zypher isnt classified as a true classic while the continential is even though it uses the same running gear and wheel base, and the convertible coupe are much rarer than the continential conv. spit spit spit
  24. The information in the authinticity manual is different for the rear window placement on the 38-39 conv coupe as well as the 40, the dimensions I gave out of the manual are for the 41-48 conv coupe which are way different than the early cars, I know mine is placed centered in the flap and I have no problem seeing out of it, so please dont try to compare the window placement from year to year as they are different. and as far as stiffeners there is only one on the 48 on the third bow they probably didnt need any more due to the fact the window and frame are much larger than the early cars.
