  1. The car is a 41 120, The guage no matter what voltage is either empty or full when moving the float arm up and down. I looked at the back of the guage panel in the car and there is no voltage drop resistor or regulator on it I also have 2 more guage panels out of the car and there is no place for one. most american made cars used voltage regulator on thier guages so they could keep 6 volt guages until the early 70s, I belive ford was the last to redesign thier guages to work on 12 volt.
  2. I have a variable power supply so I can adjust it to whatever I need for 1-16 volts. Everything is being tested outside, positive gound hooked to sending unit flange wire hooked to sending unit stud going to guage and negitive hooked to other stud for power. there is no power drop resistor on my car now and none that shows up in the wiring schamatic, also tried dropping the voltage to 3 1/2 and worked it up 1/10 volt at a time and still the same results.
  3. Anyone here know of any reason why a NOS gas guage and NOS sending unit will not read correctly? I am trying to test it out of the car before going through the trouble of installing it. at 6.2 volts it will read empty and at 6.3V it reads full. I have looked at the wiring schamatics and I cant see reason why its doing what its doing. Anyone have any ideas?
  4. Thanks for reminding me about Max Merrit. forgot all about him and they had the correct set of points so I ordered a few sets. Thanks again for all your help.
  5. Hi again. after striking out everywhere I decided to post a picture of the points. Napa # was no good at any napa dealer around here. even Kanter doesnt carry the stock type points. so if anyone knows where I can get the correct style points please let me know, maybe I will get lucky in Vallejo at thier swap meet.
  6. My books only go back to 35 and they used they way you have it set up in pic B except the spacer is onthe end of the spring, so it would be threaded plug, cup, pivot, cup, spacer, spring, spacer. Like bill said dry fit it and check to see if its centered.
  7. Hi guys. I have a 41 120 with autolite dist # IGP-4502A and I can get everything for it from NAPA eccept the points, Anyone have a cross reference # for this dist. I want to drive it to Vallejo next week. I filed the old points and they work good but they are pretty thin on the spring side. Thanks for any help
  8. I threw a fan belt on a short drive in my 48 conv. coupe and would like to know if anyone has the # for a replacement belt??
  9. Thanks guys. I will be driving my 41 120 business coupe or my 70 440 6 pack challenger there so if you happen to see me stop and say hi.
  10. Need to know when the Vallejo swap meet is if they are still doing it.
  11. try napa or carquest thats where I get mine from, they are the new inline pumps and run about $50.
  12. the last kit I bougt which was 4 days ago had the hard disc in a brass housing, the old kit was a hard disc but in aluminum and as soon as they start to corroad the stop working, try some Stabil in your gas if its going to sit for more than 2-3 months it works good on all my cars.
  13. try Sacramento vintage ford, if they dont have the check valves they have the whole kit, just bought one for my 48,$35.
  14. if your looking for 38 rear fenders I can give you the # to the guy I sold my 38 120 to, he like to buy and sell packards and parts. just let me know. my old 38 also had some nice front fenders.
  15. The fenders are different, I belive 35-37 will interchange and 38 and 39 will. I have a 36 120 and a 40 180 and 41 120 and none of the fenders are interchangable, With some work you could make anything fit.If im wrong someone here will correct me but I just went out and looked at my cars and they are all different.
  16. 94-ML-117855-ML- Loved to Lincoln Buy/Sell forum.
  17. For anyone interested a friend of mine has posted his 48 Lincoln on ebay. Almost bought it from him but found a very nice 36 Packard 3 window coupe for less than 1/3 that runs great. Thought I would let everyone here know. Heres the ebay # 160257438179
  18. I did everything but the chrome work and the upholstery and machine work to bore and clean the block. Spent 6 years getting the car done and drive it as much as I can, its an investment but who cares if you cant have fun with it, you only live oce and cant take your toys with you so enjoy them while you can. it can always be restored again.
  19. I never measured mine when I restored it I just bought 20 feet of hose and ran it. Still had some left over. but it is hooked up like Peecher said from the right side water pump through the frame to the heaters then back through the frame on the left side back to a shut off valve on the head.
  20. I have a 41 business coupe with a rear end out of a 53 Packard with automatic, I belive its a 3.50 gear, somewhere around there, its been 25 years since it was done. it will cruise at 75 easy on the freeway, I also have OD and it will get over 25mpg on the freeway. Someone will correct me on the gear ratio but its easy to find them.
  21. I would guess around 800 lbs for the small straight 8. I know the V12 is around 1300 lbs with the trans on it from when we pulled it out of our 39 Packard, and I pulled a 288 from my old 48 and its up there around 800 lbs, had to pull the wheels on both cars and set the on 4x4s because the cars raised so much my engine hoist couldnt go that high.
  22. I think I might have a vacuum wiper switch up in the tool box if your interested let me know and I will go dig it out, I have a few from lincoln and Packards.
  23. I use a 12 volt antenna and it works just fine on 6 volts, about as slow as the vacuum one did, I also changed my vacuum wiper motor to electric with a 6 volt motor from vintage ford, it was for a 48 ford and fit right in, had to madify the pivots a little to get the wipers to sweep like the vacuum ones did. If you still have your vacuum motor try putting 2-3 drops of gear oil in the hole and move the arm back and forth for about 20-30 strokes, it will work and works good, Ive done it to 2 of my cars and they still work after 8 years.
  24. I have 48 15 inch rims on my 36 and they fit just fine, I do belive there is a difference in the parts that hold on the hub caps but someone will chime in and let you know for sure, I do know from 36-48 will interchange and probably all the way up to 54.
