Thanks Ron, it is a big job but also fun and very interesting. I want to try and trace the routes and verify - through original photos - the various trips the car made. It was indeed quite an adventure for the 1930 / 1931 years. Good luck on your projects and enjoy the journey.

For smaller parts, I use molasses and water mixed 1 part molasses to 6/7 parts water and let the parts soak for about a week then just rinse them off with clear water. I have brought back parts from completely rusty to look like new steel and even found part numbers I never knew were there. I have found It take a feed grade molasses to work right and I buy it from livestock feed stores in 5 gal size. -

Great topic to talk about here. I have come to the point in my life that I can no longer do much to the cars myself so I picked one I own, that can maintain highway speeds and my wife and I can enjoy, and am having it restored by someone that knows what I have and took on the job to restore it for me. It is getting everything done except the body off the frame but it will be a real joy to drive and enjoy it for the rest of our lives. I still have several cars in my garage that need restoration but I will never be able to see them done. I still enjoy the search for parts and when I find a part that I have been searching for many years to get - the joy is wonderful - so continue the search for what few parts I need and get my enjoyment from that. Old cars have a way of grabbing you and holding on and almost unable to part with them - but, I sometimes think it may be best to see them go to the right person and know they are in good hands and not going to be destroyed. -
What a beautiful car you have. I have a 1936 rumble seat coupe that I hope to drive again someday. If it were my car, I would locate and original engine and take my time restoring the engine to new condition while I enjoyed driving it with the engine in it now. Best of both worlds that way. When I was driving mine, every day, I never had any problems at all with it stopping with the original brake set up.

Been married to my wife for over 47 years and when we were just teens, we would go to junk yards and look at cars and gather parts for mine LOL. She has helped me with every car we have ever worked on and we still look for wrecking yards - now that we are retired - as we travel. I couldn't ask for more and wouldn't change a thing. -
Are you looking for inner trim rings for a '39 or a '35 / '36? I have the original inner trim rings / wheel discs for my 1936 Dodge and they are nothing like the 39 Chrysler ring pictured. I have a 1935 Chrysler CZ and when I get home from my vacation, (I am traveling right now) I can see if they will fit the '35 Chrysler wheel if that is the car you need them for. If I can be of help, let me know.

Thanks Jack, it is really a great project and I have found quite a bit over the last few years of searching. I hope to begin putting the information I have into order so I can start getting the trips and the travels of the car into the order they happened. A lot of work but a lot of satisfaction as well. I have found that one never knows what might turn up as each day starts to will continue looking for anything that will help "fill in the blanks". Bob

I have two DC 8's and everything I see about that car is 1930 / 1931 Dodge DC8 and it would have had 18" tires from the factory. Even the emblem at the top front of the radiator shell is a DC8 emblem. How many cylinders does the engine have? I know that many exports were not the same as domestic, but don't know about exports to Africa.

I would think they had a band too and if so, that would be the band playing for the send off. Hard to say.

I used to keep the original horns and covers and just mounted the park / turn lights behind the horn cover grill. Had the best of both worlds.

Thanks Tom, for the information and link, there is indeed a lot of great info on this site. I am having my '83 XL convertible restored and it has a lot of optional equipment on it and I want to make sure they are all factory options. I really appreciate the help from everyone that responded.
