  1. I recently placed my 1988 Jaguar XJ-SC Cabriolet V-12 for sale on EBAY and only got bottom feeders to bid on that exception and collectible car. I thought the national exposure would be good but was saddly dissapointed. I suggest Autotrader.com and Hemmings....and for that matter, an ad in you local paper. Althought a specialty car, your local paper would be good as well. After EBAY, insiderslist.com and autotrader, my good ol local ad sold my car for close to asking price. On a more personal note, when I saw "Betsy Blue" for sale I have a very sad feeling in my heart. I have seen the pics you posted on the site and knew this was a man that loved his car. Maybe I am just a big cry baby, but I really feel saddness that your car will be sold and you will not frequent this site much in the future. I just hope she gets a good home!!
  2. Dear Dick, Your name suits you well, you must have had one heck of an intuitive mother!
  3. Hi Guys, For what it's worth, I too have difficulty with the search feature on this site. I am not stating this to carp at the management, but merely as useful feedback
  4. One more question today....lately my car has been discharging steam from the defroster vents when the HVAC system is off. I assume this is a heater core that has corrosion and is beginning to leak. Does that sound like a correct prognosis? I am wondering, on a scale from 1-10 the difficulty of this job. I searched the FAQ's and history and did not find much info on heater cores. Any help would be appreciated!
  5. Wow, your absolutely correct about the light, and the old adage is true, you learn something everyday! This brings up one more question however. With the parking lights on and the hood open, the light is on, but as I closed the hood it turned off when 1/2 way down??? The question still persists, how does it know when the hood is open or closed. I know this does not seem important, but it is really curious. Thanks!
  6. The light bulb under the hood is new but not working. Can anyone tell me what triggers that light to come on when the hood is opened. I assume it is similar to a refrigerator but just can't find the button....can anyone find my button? Thanks for the help!
  7. Hi Jack, I also have a 1990 and used to own a 1989. My '90 has been trouble free except for very minor issues and I am sure once you get this solved, yours will be also. My '89 however had me baffled, dazed and confused more than once. Each and every time I solved the issues with patience and lots of reading on this site and the manuel. I have no technical advise for you but just words of encouragement. You will track this thing down and it will be over soon, the finest minds are already working on it (and so is Wally) Good luck!
  8. And I thought you were one of the nice guys Wally
  9. C-Cups might not be big enough for road hazards, but I am sure they are ample to get your operating temperature way up!!
  10. Hi John, It takes approx. 5 second and they should be off. You should read the FAQ's Re:brakes when on the first page of this site and that give you the basics on these very tempermental brake systems. You can also do a search for brake and that will pull up literally dozens of previous posts regarding brakes. I know this sounds obvious, but if the light is on for what seems too long, have you checked the fluid? Everyone recommends flushing the entire brake system as well. Good luck!
  11. Slightly used, make an offer.... [color:\\"pink\\"]
  12. I agree with Nic...what great rims!! You did good!
  13. Hi Barney, Not that I am any expert, but I owned a Mustang and it always had a solenoid problem. When the solenoid was bypassed with the aid of a screwdriver, the starter engaged. Perhaps it's a solenoid issue or the solenoid wiring is dirty or has some decay? Hope this helps!
  14. Hi Juice, I used to have an '89 and it did the same thing. Even though the actual units are different, in the back of mine there were two wiring clusters that had many individual wired hooked up to each. I would suspect in your car those wiring clusters are loose and not making good contact. You may want to remove the unit, clean the contacts and reattach firmly. Do a search for dashboard display and I am sure you will find a older thread that tells you the step by step for removal if you do not have a shop manual. I shop manual is a good idea if you don't own one. Good luck!

    Battery

I agree with you Nic...Kudos to Chuck. That is one of the most detailed and thoughtful posts I have personally witnessed on the Reatta.net site. And thanks for noticing Nic!
  16. Just a suggestion but you might want to list some important info in your post, particularly condition of the car, mileage, things that don't work and perhaps asking price as well. Basically, give a thumbnail of the car and interested parties will come forward in time. Good luck selling you car!

    Battery

I am quite certain that a 13 year old car does not have the original battery in the tray. I bought my battery for my 1990 coupe at K-Mart (I do not shop at WalMart because they are driving so many small business's OUT of business)and the cost was around 50 bucks. May I suggest you do the same unless there is something historically significant fact about your car you failed to mention. Good Luck!
  18. Wow...I had no idea about "sniping" software. That makes sense to me as I have often thought I was about to get a bargain and then "poof," at the last second I am outbid. Knowing that, it makes me even less hopeful about getting things for below average cost. I thought EBAY was a bargain basement site but perhaps it is really a site to find hard to get items and not much more.
  19. Thanks a million although it sounds like more than a simple plug in like I had hoped. Perhaps someone could give Jim a nudge to look at this thread and he could let me know if he has the CD and other parts. Tell them it's for Brenda in Arizona as I have bought from him like 2 years ago and lost his phone number and handle. In fact, I forget my old handle back then and just recently created "cargirl." Thanks for the info!
  20. ALF has been extremely nice to me in the recent past!! Speaking of probably not too smart questions, my 1990 has a casette deck and I would absolutely love to have a CD player. If I found a CD player out of another 1990, would it just slip in to the spot where the radio is now? My question is, are they the same size and bolt on pattern, Etc? Thanks!
  21. Hello-My antenna does the same thing and I had the same solution, disconnect it I noticed on EBAY a new replacement for under $30 and have been considering getting one myself. Good Luck!
  22. I did not think my query would provoke a "duh" from the gathered masses. I will endeavor to ask more intelligent questions in the future.
  23. I notice there is a Reatta Promo car listed on EBAY currently. I bid on it earlier today and have already been outbid. Is there anyone on this site that has one of these Promo cars that wants to sell it? If so please email me at "brengirl@aol.com." Am I the only one to notice, but why is it that EBAY sellers charge so much for shipping these items? The seller wants almost 8 dollars for shipping an item first class the post office would charge you a buck or two? One more thought, do you think there's alot of shilling on EBAY? I always suspect that is the case, am I just paranoid?
  24. The guys are telling you the truth about replacing the Alternator. Recently my bypass hose sprung a leak and my friend and I replace it after having to remove the alternator to get to it. It was a very easy job and I was shocked!! I would recommend if you take the alternator off, you replace that hose as well. They had it in stock at Auto Zone (much to my disbelief) and the hose cost a total of $3.77. Keep the car! Good luck
  25. I have always found the Reatta to have good power and "get up and go." I would seriously look into tune-up related reasons for a lack of power. You also may want to pull up the engine codes and see if there's a problem there. The only other thing I would ask is how much does you wife weigh?? (Just kidding, I could not resist!)
