  1. Sounds like tires to me. Tires go bad with excessive miles or time. Tires can look new but if ten years old, they are toast. Tires need to be replaced every ten years regardless of wear. It not only affects driveablity but more importantly, safety.
  2. Very interesting info AZVET, I just love to hear about how things were at the time of sale. Thanks Kevin, yes, the tail light assembly is completely clear like new. Another piece that show age is the front grille, this one is perfect. Both of those items I look at when viewing a Reatta to detect it's condition. Looking forward to a good wash & wax!
  3. Just off the truck, it could use a good wash & wax but wanted to share the photo's of my new Reatta. Barney, you were right about the original owner, I have paper work dating back to the original sale. He is listed as the original purchaser. (DA Skiven} The car was a demo as well, I have a document that states, "Optional Limited Warrenty Extension for Dealer owner demonstrators, service loaners, driver education vehicles, program vehicles and product eveluation program (PEP} vehicles." It extends the warranty to 18,000 miles or 09/12/92. The car also came with original window sticker and many old documents. Very cool!
  4. This might help, it's from the Reatta Owners Journal, a great source for all things Reatta: :http://www.reattaowner.com/roj/component/content/article/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=65:engine&id=234:harmonic-balancer-bolt-removal
  5. Ronnie, are fellow Reatta enthusiasts making any donations to keep the very informative site alive? I am sure if some of the regulars kicked in a few bucks that would go a long way
  6. I did the speaker upgrade and it worked out well for me. The difference in sound was amazing and well worth the trouble. The stock Reatta radio unit really puts out a high quality sound and with the right speakers, perfection! I think I used JBL speakers but there are lots of quality speakers out there. Good advise on the subwoofer upgrade. In a convertible it fits perfectly between the trunk and the storage area for the top. The Kicker Bassmaster is the slimmed down version and gits almost anywhere. Tough call whether to mount it in the storage area inside the coupe or in the trunk. Great advise to keep the tweeters in the door. They almost always work and best left alone. Good luck!
  7. These are some very nice cars, good luck with the sale. One question, you mention a 1990 Select 60 but the photo's look like a white 1991 coupe. Did you post the correct photo's of the Select 60?
  8. You continue to amaze me Barney, your right. Mine is 900422. The interior & engine comp look like new as well. A real keeper! Thanks Stanley! I still really miss the one you found for me. Life's circumstance made me sell her but this one takes the sting out of the loss I really love the color matching molding, you probably guess that from my previous post. You have one fine looking car(s) Kevin.
  9. The new car just was loaded onto the car carrier, here are two photo's the seller was kind enough to send me. Will be posting more upon arrival. I can't wait!!
  10. I just finished a nationwide Reatta search and I noticed many high mile Reatta's that were still in great shape. It speaks well of the car & it's drivers. There is a 1990 on Hemmings right now with 178,000 miles and it looks great. Makes you feel good about owning one of these cars that you can still drive with confidence with over 200,000 miles on the ticker. Sounds like a great trip Dave!
  11. Thank you so much Kevin for your very detailed description and warnings. I bet those warnings came from experience ( unfortunate experience) and the dimpling by over tightening makes total sense. As much as we love Reatta's the Reatta owners are really the best people in the car world. This site has always been such a treasure trove of info for Reatta lovers. Guys like you make that happen.
  12. The auto transport company called today and my new car will be picked up on Monday and delivered next Thursday. The countdown clock begins! The question. The front bumper molding has a boob boo on it. The old owner bought the new molding and it will arrive with the car. Good deal. I will have the body shop to the repairs. Is it difficult to remove this molding? Then I was thinking, my other'91 vert had color matching moldings, this car is red with black moldings. I am tepidly comtemplating having the body shop remove all the side moldings and paint them red like the rest of the car. How difficult is it to remove the moldings, could I risk the body shop ruining the moldings and/or clips by removing them? Is this too risky? Would this hurt, help or be neutral regarding the value of the car. Like I previously mentioned, it is a 17000 mile car so I am buying it to drive it sparingly, own it with pride and possibly a good investment years from now. I am hoping a less than 20000 mile Reatta in like new condition could be worth some decent money in 10 or 20 years and if painting the moldings would hurt the future value I would pass. Sorry for the long post but this is important to me. One note, the other ;91 vert I almost bought instead of this one has matching moldings and I REALLY like that look. Thanks for your advise.
  13. I bought this on EBAY some years ago. I think it was part of Buick Kiosk but not sure.
  14. I found the info I was looking for and started another thread to make the info more searchable for people in the future. My old car was a 1991 white/red convert with white wheels, the car I just bought is a 1991 red/saddle convert with saddle top and has only 17000 miles on it. It is a real time capsule car, looks great! Here is the color breakdown: Black-44 Blue-22 Burgundy-13 Green-0 Grey-5 Red-88 Silver-23 White-110 The top colors were all listed as vinyl, with color breakdown as follows: Black-44 Tan-105 White-131 Interior colors: (cars in parentheses are how many had 16 way seats) Blue-31 (19) Grey-53 (25) Red-98 (52) Saddle-120 (57) White/Blue-3 (1) White/Red-2 (2) So a more thorough breakdown: Color Top Interior (Total # Color) (Total # Color) (16 Way Seats) Black (44) Black (29) Grey-12 (7) Black (44) Black (29) Red-7 (3) Black (44) Black (29) Tan-10 (6) Black (44) Tan (13) Tan-13 (7) Black (44) White (2) Grey-2 (2) Blue (22) Black (1) Blue-1 (1) Blue (22) White (21) Blue-17 (11) Blue (22) White (21) Grey-3 (0) Blue (22) White (21) White/Blue-1 (0) Burg (13) Black (2) Grey-2 (2) Burg (13) Tan (2) Red-1 (0) Burg (13) Tan (2) Saddle-10 (2) Grey (5) Black (4) Blue-1 (1) Grey (5) Black (4) Grey-3 (0) Grey (5) White (1) Grey-1 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Grey-2 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Red-5 (3) Red (88) Black (8) Saddle-1 (1) Red (88) Tan (68) Grey-2 (2) Red (88) Tan (68) Saddle-66 (29) Red (88) White (12) Grey-1 (0) Red (88) White (12) Red-10 (7) Red (88) White (12) Saddle-1 (0) Silver (23) Black (22) Blue-2 (2) Silver (23) Black (22) Grey-18 (7) Silver (23) Black (22) Red-2 (0) Silver (23) White (1) Grey-1 (0) White (110) Black (3) Grey-1 (1) White (110) Black (3) Red-2 (1) White (110) Tan (13) Tan-13 (6) White (110) White (94) Blue-10 (5) White (110) White (94) Grey-5 (3) White (110) White (94) Red-96 (52) White (110) White (94) Saddle-120 (57) White (110) White (94) White/Red-2 (2) White (110) White (94) White/Blue-2 (1) 176 converts had CDs, 112 had both CDs and 16 way seats (I have which ones in a database) Pinstripes-I also have individual cars and combination color/top/interior, but here is a total rundown: Delete-42 Black-20 Blue-19 Gold-107 Gunmetal-13 Red-77 Red/Grey-3 White-24 Moldings- Black-160 (to include the 49 black cars) Blue-12 Burgundy-10 Grey-1 Red-43 Silver-5 White-75 There were 19 cars built with Calif. emissions. There were 15 cars built for Canada 17 cars had white wheels, including all 5 white leather interior cars. The first 6 cars were designated as Pilot Cars. (VIN 2, 8, 9, 11, 12) 6 cars were designated ENG TEST CARS. (VIN 14, 15, 16, 17, 329, 347. If you could post your ID label from the spare tire wheelwell it may help determine what some of these codes are
  15. This was originally posted by TBENVIE. I am re-posting so other's in the future will have an easy way to find this valuable information. I have completed most of the 1991 database information and would like to share what I have for the convertibles. First, sorry to say no Polo Green converts showed up on the list from GM. The 34 VINs also showed up as unbuilt, and they did not have colors or any other info assigned to them. I also searched CarFax and AutoCheck and these VINs did not show up anywhere. I'm not speculating on anything, just saying the GM supplied documents do not show them. You will have to make your own judgement. Here is the color breakdown: Black-44 Blue-22 Burgundy-13 Green-0 Grey-5 Red-88 Silver-23 White-110 The top colors were all listed as vinyl, with color breakdown as follows: Black-44 Tan-105 White-131 Interior colors: (cars in parentheses are how many had 16 way seats) Blue-31 (19) Grey-53 (25) Red-98 (52) Saddle-120 (57) White/Blue-3 (1) White/Red-2 (2) So a more thorough breakdown: Color Top Interior (Total # Color) (Total # Color) (16 Way Seats) Black (44) Black (29) Grey-12 (7) Black (44) Black (29) Red-7 (3) Black (44) Black (29) Tan-10 (6) Black (44) Tan (13) Tan-13 (7) Black (44) White (2) Grey-2 (2) Blue (22) Black (1) Blue-1 (1) Blue (22) White (21) Blue-17 (11) Blue (22) White (21) Grey-3 (0) Blue (22) White (21) White/Blue-1 (0) Burg (13) Black (2) Grey-2 (2) Burg (13) Tan (2) Red-1 (0) Burg (13) Tan (2) Saddle-10 (2) Grey (5) Black (4) Blue-1 (1) Grey (5) Black (4) Grey-3 (0) Grey (5) White (1) Grey-1 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Grey-2 (1) Red (88) Black (8) Red-5 (3) Red (88) Black (8) Saddle-1 (1) Red (88) Tan (68) Grey-2 (2) Red (88) Tan (68) Saddle-66 (29) Red (88) White (12) Grey-1 (0) Red (88) White (12) Red-10 (7) Red (88) White (12) Saddle-1 (0) Silver (23) Black (22) Blue-2 (2) Silver (23) Black (22) Grey-18 (7) Silver (23) Black (22) Red-2 (0) Silver (23) White (1) Grey-1 (0) White (110) Black (3) Grey-1 (1) White (110) Black (3) Red-2 (1) White (110) Tan (13) Tan-13 (6) White (110) White (94) Blue-10 (5) White (110) White (94) Grey-5 (3) White (110) White (94) Red-96 (52) White (110) White (94) Saddle-120 (57) White (110) White (94) White/Red-2 (2) White (110) White (94) White/Blue-2 (1) 176 converts had CDs, 112 had both CDs and 16 way seats (I have which ones in a database) Pinstripes-I also have individual cars and combination color/top/interior, but here is a total rundown: Delete-42 Black-20 Blue-19 Gold-107 Gunmetal-13 Red-77 Red/Grey-3 White-24 Moldings- Black-160 (to include the 49 black cars) Blue-12 Burgundy-10 Grey-1 Red-43 Silver-5 White-75 There were 19 cars built with Calif. emissions. 16. I am sorry I was not clear, it was a post on this forum from some years ago. I should have made a hard copy of it. I will keep searching, I am sure it will pop up.
  17. I have always wanted to drive the fun run, sounds good. Diet root beer please
  18. Thanks for the warm welcome Kevin & Stan! I missed you guys. I also really miss my 1991 w/while wheels but this one will do just fine. I talked to a friend of the guy who bought my other '91 and he said he still owns it and still loves it. I would have scooped it up but all is good, that had higher miles and this one looks like a new car. The original one my father test drove back in 1990 was a red one as well so for nostalgia's sake, a red one reminds me of dad's car, the one my mother would not let him buy. Poor dad! I recall a post from way back when that listed totals production totals of the Reatta. It tracked how many 1991 Reatta were made of a certain color, certain interior colors, certain convert top colors, etc. So, if you have a blue 1991 convert with blue interior with whote top it would tell you how many were made. If anyone recalls this, could you please provide a link? Thanks!!
  19. Hello Reatta fans it's been awhile. Well, the Reatta bug bit me again. I recently purchased a 1991 Red Convertible with saddle interior and saddle top. And also, amazingly, it only has 17000 ticks on the odometer. (verified with Carfax) I am in the process of getting it shipped to Arizona but will post photo's when it arrives. This will be my 4th Reatta!! What is it about these cars, they are like potato chips, you just can't have one
  20. Sold! Moderator, please close this thread-thanks.
  21. Price dropped - need cash, asking $12,500 - 9/29/2015 Nada average retail, $16,500--- http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1983/Oldsmobile/Cutlass-Calais/2-Door-Coupe-Olds-Hurst/Values
  22. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new Reatta. They are great cars and fun to own. The first thing I do is clay bar my new purchases too. That is amazing stuff. Enjoy your car and have fun.
  23. I will send it out tomorrow Kingsley, you will have it on Wednesday. Glad to help out!
  24. I have the soft bound book by Duncan Smith and I was the one who accurately quoted from the book, figures that people on this site thought were erroneous. The email address others are giving you Kingsley is indeed the one published in the book. duncan.smith@juno.com. Whatever I can do to help just let me know, OK?
