  1. I'm gonna take a wild swing at this one. It appears to happen when the carb is filling with fuel. Is it possible the fuel inlet filter gasket (big red one) is missing?
  2. Yes I did. Twice on two different pumps. Tried a third pump and worked like a charm. Send it to Dan.
  3. I have never seen an original car with white in the grooves, and I have seen a lot of 55's. If I am wrong, you all know I will admit it, but I need more than one or two examples.
  4. You're welcome, Bob. That was me after trying to paint Willie's car with a cheap Craftsperson gun.
  5. Officially, the only knob that originally had the painted ring was the parking brake knob.
  6. That looks a little like they were trying for the Jay Leno Silver and Black that aren't correct. My 55 Special was originally tri-tone from the factory with an odd combo, so it was possible.
  7. Welcome aboard Don. This is a cool idea and you certainly sound like the right guy to tackle it if you felt like doing so. I don't have a book that would show whether 54-56 would be the same, but I do know there are differences between large series and small series, as well as power seat and non power. It is definitely a desired product as even good versions are split in some way. The biggest problem I see is that unless you get your product in a catalog or go the eBay route (my suggestion) is that they will be hard to sell. I have had some AC brackets made up for the early nailhead engines and I did it (much like you desire) for he good of the hobby and to recoop my costs. I have only sold a few, so just don't plan on quick return on your investment. Good luck.
  8. That's the map light. If you have a working headlight switch, you rotate the knob clockwise and it will come on.
  9. Paul has probably seen the pic of my lid which I incorrectly painted the letters white. It DOES look better that way. But all black...
  10. I am hooking him up with a rear end.
  11. And if you do have a broken spring, I have a bunch of used ones, and they sell rebuild kits at CARS... for a lot of dough.
  12. I did this for my doors. Not for my hood.D'oh It IS possible to get the hood lined up, even if you are dummy... Like I was
  13. Greg, The last sentence gets lost. This is really good information to have since you were going to do major surgery to make it fit. Keep us posted. Also, this info may Ned to be in Post war just on its own once you get verification that it works. Good job.
  14. Unless you sanded those marks off, then good luck. Who would do such a thing? Definitely install the hood first and make the fenders fit it.
  15. John D. just emailed me to let me know about the commotion. Nothing major to add. I have been slowly priming and straightening the sheet metal, but every time I think I can begin painting I get another customer car come in. That's good for my wallet. Not so good for my project.
  16. It also depends how long the car sits between drives. I had mine changed to quartz movement which in hindsight seems like a waste of money.
  17. I had my convertible body blasted with no ill effects. The biggest problem was that there were beads left in every nook. Like every venture in restoring a car, you must find somebody you trust and who knows what they are doing. I don't recall what medium these guys used. It was neither soda (which doesn't touch rust), nor silica sand (which is bad for body panels, and paint doesn't like silica dust). I had my frame sand blasted and powdercoated by a different company. You can't sand and paint a frame for what they charged me.
  18. Chris, You're in Bawlmer, yes? Just gotta say "C'mon Hon, we can store are Natty Beaux's down 'ere" That will get your pit.
  19. It may be slightly tucked, but if you pull the bottom of the cover away from the transmission, it will slip out.
