That Sir,
Is why you are loved by your sons. Genius!
(Although I would have just run a hose to the outside of your garage / shed / other side of urinal wall)

I'm very sorry Lamar.

"Wouldn't you really rather talk about a Buick?"
First day of stay at home status (family in Maryland), so pulling steering wheel, more dash parts. Can't get column off for some reason. Gonna have lunch and then try later tonight.
More later, hopefully

John D., It was an entire replumbing of my 1941 house, and new plumbing for added on bathroom and laundry room. Plus, he gave me a check to cover the difference. I broke even. First time ever in this or any other hobby!
Dave, I hear ya.
Derek, Seriously? You know you can't offend me.

Yes, Ben was on the 50 cent and hundred at the same time
Interesting, thanks B.
.... and if you'll read about himBenjamin Franklin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
he did much more than many of our presidents.Agreed. Bar has been lowered considerably over the past decade.
My "greedy" comment above was meant as a joke for my Canadian friend, Thriller, who asked the identity of the President on the coin. I couldn't tell you squat aboot Canadian politicians. You would truly see my ignorance shine then.

Is that green and white 55 Scott Mich's old car?
-
From the Buick?
Line of the year, so far...
That IS a great pic Roy.

Kidding brother.
Remember, I had to trade the Wildcat to the plumber who worked on my house....
and bringing it back to the original post...so that I could try to provide for my family knowing that indoor plumbing was more important than a 401 powered convertible. All of us dads do the best we can and hope that one day they appreciate it like Justbcausd stated.
Cheers again to all of you.

Mine was like that on my 55 Special sedan, too. Upon restoration, I changed to all grey.
It's most likely a case of using what was available. Maybe OCD wasn't as prominent back in the day.

Hello.
Priorities?
-
Maybe, but you don't have a 30's car YET!
We BCAF'ers will wait this one out and see...

I was at the AACA show on Sunday that Barney wrote about. I spoke to the owner of a 1973 VW Thing for at least a half hour. A street rod guy asked me all kinds of questions about my 55's factory air conditioning. I have been to shows where snobbery and cliquish behaviour was the rule. I just decided to sit and enjoy the day (under a shade tree) and field questions from the folks who wanted to talk cars. My son Woody came for a
little while BTW.

I would not worry about carbon deposits before checking the spark plug wire "weave" that NikeAjax spoke about. It isn't that difficult to do, but there can certainly be crossfire without doing it.
-
Another tip, since you said the original was mangled, would be to bend a coat hanger into the approximate shape first, before trying it on the more expensive tubing.
-
Aaron,
You shouldn't need a kit. Just a good thorough cleaning/ lubing. Pay attention to Bob: lay out the parts from side to side as you disassemble so you can get the parts back in the same order. It is an easy job that can make a big difference in your steering.

It is Benjamin Franklin. I wonder if he was on the hundred dollar bill at the same time. Seems kinda greedy for a dude who wasn't a president, although maybe it was due to a lack of bipartisan bickering.
Part of the Mr. Mom thing is just because I was getting too old to continue the ranch hand duties I have been doing for the past few years. I am just fortunate that Mrs. 5563 works at Apple (not a bad gig right now). She has been VERY clear that I am NOT retired.

I picked up a bunch of parts from Willie last weekend and was going to try to start restoring them, but my cheap-a$$ (but expensive) compressor had a blown reed, so no blasting. I also picked up a gallon of epoxy primer yesterday so I can prime once I blast the body.
UPDATE:
I am about to be a stay at home dad, so I will have much more time, but much less money to work on this project. So, most likely you guys will be seeing good project pics, that don't cost anything soon!!!

Everybody is slim on the interwebs...

That was kinda my point, in regards to the original primer color. I love original cars, but lacquer paint is pooh compared to new paints (when repainting starting from bare metal).
I will be priming my 55 Century convertible with a black epoxy primer over bare metal, then bondo, etc., then a grey sanding primer. This was recommended to me by a painter who said "Once you see the black, stop sanding."

180 is a great number. I'm visiting Buick land but own an Oldsmobile. I run 50/50 with the Water Wetter. I would rejoice for 180 on a hot day!
Well then,
Welcome to Buick Land.
-
What year Buick, Slim?
-
Jim,
I think your quest for authenticity is admirable, but are you going to paint with lacquer? I'm also not sure that primer color would make a difference if you put more than one coat of color on. I would use just light grey primer for your desired light topcoat colors.
That said, most of the primers I have seen on 50's era cars are red oxide (like in the unpainted trunks).

Yes, an alignment will absolutely help. Take your manual with you, AND go to an alignment shop on the wrong side of the tracks (if you have a wrong sde of the tracks). The modern Pep Boy type shops won't have a clue.
Good call on the rear sway bar bushings, Pete.

Did you touch one of your leads to ground?
In other words batt neg to ground, batt pos to one of the motor wires. It should work that way.
