  1. Ken, You just mentioned something, but this is a long shot. The problem started sfter you replaced an burnt exhaust valve. Could the problem perhaps be related to a cylinder head gasket that was put the wrong way around, or that was missing a drain hole. The oil is thus accumulating in the tappets? Dave
  2. Ken, may I assume that as you have a photo of the sump off the car, you have not solved your oil starvation problems? Or is this problem done and dusted? It has been a little time since we have heard about your sarga.
  3. The answer is yes, it does matter which way the poles are connected as it will change the polarity of the winding. If you have a diagram then check it carefully. I could E-mail you a few diagrams, else do a google search. Good luck.
  4. Hi Ken. You have been very quiet on your oil problem on your Rover. Have you solved it?
  5. Ken, I have been reading your trials and tribulations with interest. I had a funny experience many years ago which might just have a connection. As a student I overhauled the engine of a car in a hurry and left on holiday without testing the car. After 200 miles the oil light came on, (it was nearly midnight). Opened the hood, no major oil leak, just a little oil on the dipstick. After close torchlight examination I found the problem. The dipstick on this car is in a tube on the outside of the engine which connects to the bottom of the sump. In my haste I had twisted the air cleaner and kinked the rubber breather tube. The crankcase pressurised and blew all the oil out. One twist of the air cleaner and a kind donation of oil and I enjoyed the rest of the holiday. This is where the link comes in, is crankcase pressure not somehow pushing the oil back into the gearbox?
  6. These are definitely Chev gauges for a 1927/1928 4cylinder car.

    Hood Latches

Could somebody please identify the hood latch below. It has a part number that looks like RD786016. It is on my 1928 Chevy, but I am not sure they are orginals, although they are quite old.

    paint codes

Luke, I am restoring a 28 Chev and have quite a lot of info, including a colour chart for the 31. This includes the colours of all the trimmings. It sounds as though you are in South Africa, I am in Johannesburg. I am compiling a list of all the 4 cylinder Chev owners in SA, ie pre 1929. Please E-mail me and I will let you have the chart. taylordave7@hotmail.com
