  1. Far as we know, that was a Corvair body, special frame and gear, Buick engine, so it qualifies as a Buick. John
  2. I have been admiring this car and the show for some 4 years in CT. Currently it is not on, but may be back this winter. PBS has a funny way of bringing shows in and out over the years and at different times in different markets. John
  3. Green T, This is a post copying an old craigslist, so you will have to call the phone number on the original craighslist post. John

    Hi again

I have been busy and wanted to clarify a bit regarding the louvers on the radiator cover. These rotate on metal to metal top and bottom. I have found if you to not clear them every so often, there will be enough rust that will effect their operation. I suggest you make sure they move and, if not, have the lubed. If they are operable, I suggest after each wash or driving in rain, you use compressed air to blow them try and lubricate with a rust prevention spray. Not sure about plugs, I will see what I can find out for you unless you get an answer here sooner. John
  5. Brett, Did you sell the car? John
  6. Regarding the alarm, I bought, in 1970's, an after market alarm of similar function, so that is heavy movement or lifting to tow, or flatbed, and horn alarm would sound. I installed it on a restored 1964 Volvo. After test never had a chance to see if it worked, before a sold the car. Instead of a bulb, it was a mercury switch in a rectangular can. John
  7. Terry, Downdraft was much after 1929, so there were some swaps on this car. John
  8. John, I think the photos are just fine, and they reflect the variety of cars in the show. The "haze" on the windows is the result of the weather. But the people on the field indicates the dedication of Buick owners. I had to remove rain twice on two cars, and glad I had help from my wife and Dan Hoffman, my hauler (if you ever need cars moved, he is your man) John
  9. John, Just let me say, as the NE Regional Coordinator, your committee has done an outstanding job on this event. I am sorry that more Buick people did not take advantage of the work effort of your team. While we stayed at the host hotel, I understand that both where equally gracious in their hospitality. And the rooms were very comfortable and accommodating. Despite the cold damp(perhaps I detected even a bit of rain) weather, I think everyone had a good time. The hot apple cider that was served at the hotel was very helpful in warding of the chill. I only wished for a bit better weather so we could stay by the cars more to discuss them with the many guests a saw walking the show field, and the owners of the other cars. I am sorry that we had to take a mini-after-tour on our own as we had to be in Hartford by 5:oo PM had had to depart the lunch stop at Prospector's no later than 2 PM. Glad you had a rather large contingent at lunch as we passed you going the other way. We enjoyed a ride from there east into VT and then south and east. My computer will not let me open the "small galleries", so I hope you can post the photos on the web site. On behave of the attending chapters let me again thank your committee for al their fine efforts. Hope to see many of the soon or into next spring's events. John Scheib

Barney, How does the cockpit cover get attached? I am more concerned about protecting from sun than rainy weather; having the car sit it hot sun at too many shows, or other events. John

And thank you, flajunkie, received and you should have the check today or tomorrow. Send Monday. John
  12. Tony, I think the engine will run hotter without the oil cooler, and they can be repaired. But the question is how much hotter and that depends how much driving you will do. I think more important is that you Silphon unit and the radiator shutters function properly Did you just buy that car or have just completed restoration? Where are you located? Suggest you join the BCA if you have not done so. Welcome to the forum. As you can see from my info, and have the next series down, 57S. John
  13. My apology, Pete. This is the photo I should have sent. Sure looks like my car though. John
  14. Pete, An interesting car. But, he mentions rust, but see little on the body. I wonder how bad the frame is. Jason must be close. I wonder if he can get a look? I would be curious. John

    Car shows.

That last photo is a bit much. I have a tuner shop near my garage, so I just need to drive by their parking lot to see those in for work, or accident repair of carbon fiber, so I do not need those type of shows. John

    Car shows.

I agree with Ship. Every group seems to have trouble trying to place for the Reatta. One time they tried placing it with Corvettes, than, as Ship said, with all 990 and over. Told them mine was 1989 (even though it isn't, so they ended up putting me way on the "back lot" with "orphans" class. Good thing I don't care about trophies and bonus was I met some nice people with a Henry J, and a few other interesting cars. That made it a good show. John

I had not seen the original post. If available, I too am interested. Now, for installation after I get the front stone damage corrected. John
  18. Bubba is correct and Carl, thanks for the detail explanation. I have my heat exchanger fully operational, but sometimes wonder if I should just block it off, as it continues to be a bit of a hassle. John
  19. Alex, No, sorry for the confusion. Christina work with Keith Flickinger of Bulgari in Allentown.. If you were not down there last year, I suggest you find out who was and do they have contact info. If not, we can dig it up for you. Let me know. John
  20. Great work, Joan. Glad Larry could help. John
  21. Larry, I have not read all the posts, but regarding hoist rental, does not Advance Auto Parts let you borrow such stuff free of charge? John
  22. Might I suggest you try Christina there first and she can relay any contact to Keith, as he often is quite busy and she is more likely to respond to messages first. Do you have her number in your file at PC? John
  23. Regarding the roof, you can usually tell by discoloration of the headliner if it is a mild leak, or collapse in part or total if a bad leak. Is this the one that they had at Hershey some years ago? John
  24. KingKoser, I am hoping Bob Engel will come on here and tell you more about the engine (He has rebuilt several engines. I will try to make some other comments on the car. This car may be a bit an cross-bred. I do not believe Buick ever built a car with wood wheels on the front, wires on the back. You will the wheel hubs are different. If you want to go with one or the other, you will need to find two hubs. I think, Egge is about the only source. I suppose you also checked with Kanter, Cars, and others. I still find it hard to believe, looking at the photos, that the condition would warrant an engine rebuild. I am going to get you a contact for parts and manuals as well as a photo of my car. John
  25. Have you removed the body from chassis yet? How is the wood frame? Did the roof leak? We still do not know what was the reason for rebuilding the engine. Just tired or major component failure? Where are you studying? We may be able to offer you some local help, guidance if we know where you were located. John
