  1. Want to buy Six cylinder T-head engine as shown. It is a unique arrangement with the cast as a single unit unlike typical T heads cast in singles, doubles, or triples. Manufactured by the Light Inspection Car Company from about 1912-1914. Used by American, Pilot, McFarlan and others. Would like to buy a complete engine but am interested in any part of the engine in any condition. Leads, rumors, or sightings appreciated. americanunderslung@earthlink.net Alan Woolf
  2. All of the DUB crowd is excited about 30" inch tires. I would love to show up with a Limited or Underslung and show them what a "real" set of tires and wheels looks like! Alan
  3. WRT the tire issue I believe the Limited uses a 43 x 5 tire. Universal lists them in their catalog. The 41 x 4-1/2 (used on American Underslungs and others) tires were available from Universal last year. I actually saw the tires at their business the day before Hershey last year. A quick phone call would confirm their availability. Universal TIre Alan
  4. The aft fitting on the DA waterpump should be lubricated with waterpump grease and the rear fitting should be a plain zerk fitting (no check valve) with a threaded cover. Waterpump grease is a very specific type of grease and chassis grease will not work properly. Chassis grease will eventually wind up in the radiator and plug the tubes. The front fitting on the waterpump is just for the shaft bearing and chassis grease can be used in that fitting with no problem. Model A Fords have the same basic waterpump setup and waterpump grease is available from the vendors who sell Model A Ford parts. Macs, Snyders, or Mike's Afforable are good sources for the proper grease. Also you can get the proper rear grease fitting from the same sources. Alan

    Caning

There was an interesting article on caning in the AACA magazine many years ago. The article was related to the restoration of a Rolls Royce town car that had caning applied to the aft section of the body. As I recall this particular car was originally done with real cane and other body builders painted the cane on the body. In the article the restorer described how he reproduced the cane by creating a mold and using RTV to make a faux cane. This was then glued on the body of the car. Alan

  12. The pictured trademark is a pencil rubbing off of the transmission case of a 1914 American Underslung. It appears to be a C with one large B and two smaller B's. Does anyone know what company it represents? Also is there soemwhere to find the identity of old trademarks? Alan
  13. Ebay is a great tool that I use a lot. Not only have I bought and sold parts on Ebay I also bought a nice original 13 T touring on Ebay for a a reasonble price a couple of years ago. Ebay has definitely impacted the price of parts. In some cases it has lowered prices and others it has caused prices to go higher. It is all about the supply and demand of parts. I wouldn't necessarily say it has impacted flea markets negatively. I just returned from Hershey as a vendor and a parts hunter. I had good success as a vendor with many parts that I purchased on Ebay and resold. Most of what I sold was not outrageously priced because I bought it "right". I also managed to find a couple of hard to find items for a project car that I am working on and would likely never turn up on Ebay but then you never know. Hershey is also important because of the ability to network with other car owners and to help each other figure out solutions for restoration issues. Face to face tire kicking will never be completely replaced by electronic media. Ebay takes time and consistency. Plus you have to be knowledgeable about what you are bidding on. There are several little tricks to success on Ebay and it just takes time and practice to figure out how to make it work. Bidding one or two times and quitting without figuring out how the system works is not a good test of the system. Alan
  14. Will there be buses taking passengers from one end of the flea market to the other this year? I looked a the Hershey Region map and it was not clear to me if there was bus service and where the bus stops might be located. Alan

  16. In this photo I know what the car is. It is a 1913 or 1914 American Underslung Type 644 four passenger touring. What I would like to know is the identity of the driver. The picture supposely was taken by Floyd Clymer. My guess is that is was taken in the early 50's and I think the car was probably on the west coast. Alan
  17. I am looking for details on this Gray and Davis starter/generator. Can anyone provide a positive identification and possibly repair and rebuild data? Is there a business that rebuilds these units? Alan Woolf
  18. Looking for parts and literature for a 1914 American Underslung Type 644 touring. 19. Chris, That looks similar to an early swivel that was used on the 1909 Model T's. I believe it was made by Stewart. Alan Woolf
  20. I am trying to identify this early side shift transmission that I just acquired. Alan

  23. I am looking for literature on the engine manufacturer Teetor-Hartley. They manufactured engines for multiple makes of automobiles in the 19-teens. My interest is in catalogs, pictures, and specifications of the engines they produced specifically the 6 cylinder engines. I am not looking for the history of the company or its principals but more hard facts about their products. I would also be interested in brochures that show their 6 cylinder engines in customer cars. Trade journals or engineering magazines that talk about Teetor-Hartley engines might also be appropriate. Alan Woolf
  24. West, Definitely a Model 34 Marmon. It could be as early as 1916. It appears to be a cloverleaf roadster body. There are a couple of Model 34 Marmon's with that body that still exist. One is in metro Atlanta. Alan
