  1. Sorry no picture, I keep getting an error message ?! I will try again later or you can e-mail me.
  2. I have a 56 Roadmaster license plate lamp assembly in excellent condition. I don't know what other makes or models it might fit. The housing, lens and wire lead are all in great shape. Even the grommet is still soft and plyable. I am asking $25 dollars and this includes the shipping in the continental United States. Once payment is confirmed as good, I will wrap the part in bubble wrap and ship it in a cardboard box. I will accept Money order, cashiers check, or personal check as payment and will ship via USPS, UPS or FedEx. Standard shipping will be the pace, not overnight. I will provide a tracking number. Please e-mail me with any questions at dobieroo@aol.com Thanks!
  3. Just adding another picture to this post. I have a few intereseted parties, but nothing definate yet. I'm going to post my 68 Wildcat next, one of the twop has to go!
  4. So a Dynaflow is not going to downshift by itself at full stops unless I manualy do it? SO this car works correctly? Interesting design. I've owned this car for over 3 years and just assumed it was how it worked. Thanks for the info. -Duane.
  5. I am selling my 1956 Roadmaster 2-door for $8,500. It is all original, except for some filler in the lower sections of the body and the red paint(orangish/red) being added to this all white car. I have had the seats re-upholstered to original and the gas tank has been ReNu'd (sealed). The carb has also been professinally rebuilt. The drive train is very orignial but the trans does not like to downshift at stops, you have to manually do it. I don't know what else to tell about this car, but I can confirm I hate selling it since I really like this body style. Some things are just beyond our control. So the facts in summary: 1956 Roadmaster 2-door $8500 In Grand Blanc, Michigan (near Flint) I am Duane Gilles (810) 694-1719 is my home phone number, try it after 5pm EST or leave a message any time (Not in the middle of the night!) E-mail for more pictures or info, dobieroo@aol.com I will photograph any particular parts/area or you can have someone inspect it.
  6. Lamar, I hate parting with this car, but finances and storage concerns force me to get rid of at least one car. I love tinkering with this car also, it is rather easy to work on. But it needs more attention than my 68 Wildcat, so it is first on the block. I actually plan to put a post out for it, but first wanted to run an ad in our local chapter newsletter for the guys who have helped me out the most. That ad should be out any day now, then I will proceed to this forum. Thanks for the compliments!
  7. I have just put my 56 Roadmaster 2 door hardtop (76R) up for sale this week. It is a good looking car that runs good. There is some filler in the lower body panels and I do not have carpet in it. I did just have the seats re-upholstered and the gas tank was recently professionally sealed. The car has very good chrome and stainless steel and have plenty of spare chrome for it. There would be no need for any parts to be re-chromed. I am asking for $7200 US. Please e-mail me if you want more info or pictures. (I will attempt to attach a picture to this post). Good luck on your search, Duane duane.c.gilles@delphi.com
  8. I just called Haggerty, my classic car insurance company, and confirmed I would have coverage in Canada as I drive from Michigan to Bataiva. They informed me that I should have a "Canadian ID Card" for proof of insurance. It was no cost, but probably something you should check on just in case.
  9. One note I wanted to make is that I wonder if this is someone's hoax. I work in the auto industry on various future GM and Ford programs. I have never seen/heard about this car. I am wondering if someone has taken a picture of a current GTO and "modified" it a bit. I hope it is true, I would be in line the first day it came out.
  10. Cavalier? Sunfire? What the !@*#!$%*? This is blasphemy! GNX. No other name in automotive history says "80's Supercar" like those three letters. Now the legend is back. Buicks 2007 GNX is a modern-day incarnation of classic street performance. When you turn the key and hear the throaty dual exhausts announcing the Twin Turbo 3.6L V-6, you'll know you have your hands full. Compared to its '80s namesake, the new GNX sports a suspension that is tighter, an engine that's more powerful and a manual transmission that now boasts two additional gears. The car will hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in about four-and-a-half seconds, and run the quarter mile in under 13 seconds. There's nothing like it in its class. Total performance The completely new GNX isn't just about horsepower, of course. Its unique personality includes impressive cornering abilities, a smooth ride and surprising comfort. But the heart of the GNX is indeed a truly awesome Twin Turbo and Intercooled 3.6l V-6 engine, also known as the base powerplant for the Buick Velite Concept. The GNX produces an estimated 450 horsepower and with 465 lb.-ft. of torque, it has no problem leaving a stop with purpose. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels and performance tires are matched to a fully independent, performance-tuned suspension featuring direct-acting stabilizing bars and power rack-and-pinion steering. Traction control and a limited slip differentials also come standard. And, today's GNX revs through six forward speeds with the close-ratio manual transmission, or you can choose a six-speed Hydra-Matic. Both come with a 3.46:1 final drive ratio. Performance-oriented interior The GNX is, first and foremost, a driver's car. Every detail, from the satin-finish steering wheel to the race-inspired metallic pedals, gives the driver a sense of performance from the moment the car is entered. The standard feature list starts off with leather 2+2 bucket seats, in black -color-coordinated with the vehicle's exterior color. The high-tech seats provide lateral support, wrapping around the driver and front passenger and complementing the great handling characteristics of the chassis. Also standard is a six-disc CD-changer with premium 10-speaker sound system, cruise control, a multi-function driver information center, keyless entry system and a host of other features to enhance the driving experience. Sensuous design Rather than create an imitation of the original legend, the 2007 GNX provides a contemporary interpretation of the classic buick sports coupe. The distinctive, tautly stretched exterior, aggressive lowered stance and sleek, simple form all help express the clean, athletic styling direction of Buick. Add this to the obvious performance of the vehicle and you have a rear-wheel-drive TT+I V-6-powered premium sports coupe wrapped in a seamless, modern design. Safety and quality Bringing the GNX to a safe stop is accomplished through standard four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated front, solid rear), part of a four-channel anti-lock braking system. Other standard safety features include dual front air bags, three-point safety belts for all occupants and an Emergency Mode that automatically shuts down the engine, turns off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and turns on the dome light any time the air-bag system is deployed. Production of the 2007 Buick GNX will begin in September 2006 at Holden's award-winning Elizabeth plant in Australia using the latest techniques to ensure both measurable and "perceived" quality. Projected annual production will be 18,000 vehicles. 11. First, thanks for all the advice here! So is removing the cable from the sleeve as easy as unscrewing it from the trans housing and pulling it out? Then just clean it up, re-apply small quantities of new lubricant and slide it back in? This sounds way to easy and I don't want to create a bigger problem with my lack of knowledge. Thanks again everyone!
  12. I recall a discussion about speedo cables that could be lubricated to eliminate low speed "bouncing". On my 68 Wildcat, at very low speeds, the needle bounces from 0 to 90. Eventually it settles down, but I would like to fix it if it is simple. I thought someone had mentioned lubricating the cable at both ends would help. But what type of lube works best?
  13. This from autoextremist.com Detroit. Off the record, Detroit auto executives scoffed at Micheline Maynard's book, "The End of Detroit: How the Big Three Lost Their Grip on the American Car Market" (Currency), which came out in the fall of 2003, as being mean-spirited and overtly pro-Toyota. In it, she documented how "Detroit" - through a combination of incompetence, shortsightedness, arrogance and an almost maniacal clinging to the way things used to be - had allowed the Asian and European manufacturers to waltz in and take huge chunks of market share at an alarming rate. She even predicted at the end of the book that by the year 2010, one of the companies that used to make up what was formerly known as the "Big Three" would cease to exist in its present form. Detroit executives bristled at the conclusions of the book and dismissed Ms. Maynard as someone with an axe to grind. It's clear now though that Ms. Maynard's book was much more prescient than anyone at the "Detroit Three" would care to admit. This week marked a flurry of stories in the national and local media about the looming cloud of crisis hanging over the industry that once crowned this town as the "Motor City." The lead story in this week's Automotive News documents how GM and Ford's combined share of the market went from 55 percent in 1997 to 43.1 percent in 2004 - with a shocking 4.5 percent drop from '03 to '04. Their new products, though perfectly competent and capable, are slow starters in the market and not the "gotta have" answers that Detroit was clamoring for. The Detroit automakers' crushing health care and legacy costs attach a penalty of between $1,000 and $1,500 per vehicle, putting them at an almost insurmountable competitive disadvantage to their Asian and European competitors. Add to that the fact that the Japanese government regularly makes it an accepted part of their national financial policy to manipulate the yen to their auto manufacturers' advantage, and you can add another $1,500 per vehicle to Detroit's competitive deficit. But lest you think that it's just Ford and GM's problem, Chrysler's Dieter Zetsche, in a speech to the Detroit Economic Club this past Monday, while addressing Detroit's plummeting market share and the crisis it represents, said, "If the stated sales and share goals of Asian manufacturers are realized - even if only in part - this trend will continue." He added, "It took the Japanese automakers more than 20 years to become serious competitors in this market. The Korean automakers accomplished the same feat in about half that time. The Chinese may make it in as little as five years. That's a frightening prospect." Detroit is in freefall, folks. This "perfect storm" began in the '80s with absurdly costly union contracts that set the table for the crushing health care and legacy costs these companies are facing today. And the fact that the U.S. government seems incapable of doing anything in terms of coming up with a rational national health care solution just compounds the problem. U.S. Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., told Tom Walsh in the Detroit Free Press last week in speaking about the burgeoning crisis in the domestic auto industry that "We've got to do something. They're somewhere between 2 and 4 years off from a real calamity." As recently as 18 months ago, when auto industry insiders scoffed at the conclusions proffered by Ms. Maynard, no one envisioned the accelerating pace of Detroit's decline in the market. We would normally say here that Ms. Maynard has gotten the last laugh, but we're quite certain that, as someone who grew up in this area, she's not laughing. Nobody around here is. Autoextremist.com has spent the better part of the last 5-1/2 years regaling our readers how Detroit got to this point, and what they needed to do to correct things. Is it over yet? No, far from it. Detroit still has a real shot at turning things around. But it's clear, too, that the domestic auto industry and the proud heritage it represents to this region is under withering and relentless siege - and we're heading for the most tumultuous years in the Motor City's history.

  15. The Grand National name!?!?!?!?! Lets just hope the car is worthy of such a name if this comes to be true. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New GTO Likely to Spawn New Camaro The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer Feb. 24, 2005 By Jeff Schuster General Motors is counting on the rear- wheel-drive mechanical underpinnings it calls its "Zeta architecture" to boost its Pontiac GTO, provide Chevrolet with a new Camaro and help revive Buick. The next-generation Pontiac GTO will arrive as a 2008 model. It will be longer than the current imported model, and GM will shift production from Australia to North America. It also seems likely the styling will be more what traditional GTO lovers expected. Chevrolet gets a Camaro replacement from Zeta, although the timing isn't clear. Buick gets several models starting with a flagship sedan that will launch in late 2006, as a 2007 model. Then there will be either a coupe and convertible combination or just as a convertible, which will hit showrooms in mid-2007. I expect it to be powered by a 6.0-liter V8 or a twin-turbo V6 that will offer more than 400 horsepower as the power plant, Buick may be bringing back the Grand National badge as either the model name or high performance variant.
