What kind of mileage do you get in your antique car?
kuhner replied to Dave Wells's topic in General Discussion
My 27 model T pickup gets about 16 mpg, my 1956 VW Beetle gets 30 -
Does anyone remember the one that was at an auction at Hershey, maybe 16 or 17 years ago. I can’t find the photos I took of it

Chickasha Pre War Swap Meet - March 15th & 16th

I plan staying home this year. Thanks for correcting my days. Just letting folks know to go early, don’t wait until the last day. And be aware that the best deals are made in the pre set up vendor line. -
Chickasha Pre War Swap Meet - March 15th & 16th

My wife’s family is from Oklahoma. We went a couple times to visit family and mostly graveyards while there. You better be there Thursday because on Friday people are packing up and lord knows if anyone is left Saturday. Even better get there Wednesday to pick thru the people lining up. I know that happens at Hershey but there are not many vendors at Chickasha. -
Those spring compressors are dangerous. The rest I don’t mind.

He did. He died in 1982 when I was 21. He told me of his first car he owned a Model A, and was always a Ford man. The first vehicle I remember he had was a red 1948 Ford F1. I still buy red Ford trucks. I have 3 model Ts now, and one is a red roadster pick up. Sure wish he was here to take a ride with me.

How about the first mini van. Volkswagen started in 1950 with the type II. Chrysler fans may disagree.

I look forward to the marathon also. How about the 53 Ford Coupe, it was the episode about the older folks in a home who return to their youth.

Last year the American picker guy was buzzing around on a gas powered scooter. This year it was at least an electric contraption. Didn’t know he had a disability. Pretty high profile person to see breaking the alleged rules. Bet he didn’t parked in the 20 dollar peasant parking lots.

I wondered myself if handsignals were still on the driver’s license test in Ohio. I perused the latest study guide about a year ago at the DMV. No mention of hand signals. I then installed turn signal lights on my T.

Harbor Freight sells something called a Bolt Breaker. Appears you use them with your air hammer, socket and box end wrench. If you don’t like Harbor Freight I’m sure they copied the design from someone else.

My wife is very good at finding little stuff. She enjoys the hunt. I give her a picture from the internet to carry with her. Gives her something to look for instead of just wondering around. The best thing was a correct date coded ignition coil for our Volkswagen. I told her no way she would find one, she did. Hershey 2 years ago.

A model T has no type of lock washer. Almost every bolt has a cotter pin. I think lock washers were only invented in the early 20s. If there was a better more efficient way I’m sure Henry would have done it.

I am co-chairman for our car show at our VFW. We are lucky enough to have a young lady, Iraq veteran, full time Army National Guard make our trophies. She does stained glass, these are ones from last year all had something to do with the state of Ohio. I like to think we have THE best judges at any car show . Our judges are our veterans. We ask one veteran from each conflict from WW2 to present, and Purple Heart recipient to pick their favorite car. We lost our WW2 veteran this past winter so we may ask a family member from a veteran to fill in. We also include other posts’ veterans. For most they pick a car they have some great memory of. The veteran presents the trophy, and we introduce them with a run down of their military service. It really is very special. Sometimes hard to not get choked up when hearing their service. Last year our Purple Heart was a young man who earned two while in Afghanistan. Everyone is invited. It is a small show about 40 or 50 cars but we are still growing it. Seems like either the weather or something else works against us.

Buick35 did you ever get your fuel line / fuel pump problem figured out? is this the same VW engine?

You say it is on an engine stand, was it rebuilt? Make sure there the push rod is in the block. Item 1 on the picture Rusty posted.

Changing a power steering pump on a 1990 Chevy Suburban.

Some alternators need that tool also. If you don’t want to purchase one, buy the part from Autozone and they will loan you one for free. -
Ford plans to stop putting AM radios in new cars
kuhner replied to Reynard's topic in General Discussion
AM radio is going the way of the local newspaper. Our local station was bought up by a big out of town company that has very little interest in what is going on locally. If I remember Clear Channel Corp. bought up many AM stations years ago, and ran their syndicated shows. Our local paper is now owned by USA Today, along with several neighboring towns. I keep getting our paper but gripe every time I pay the bill. Just a couple things that technology has changed in our lives. -
Up until about 2 years ago we were able to buy an electronic regulator for our model Ts. They quit making them. A few guys started working on building a real voltage regulator from off the shelf parts and even had everything you needed to have a board made. If you are handy with electronics you might be able to build one yourself, I guess it would work in your application, just change the housing. The thread is pretty long. https://www.mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25609&p=196314&hilit=Voltage+regulator+Electronic+voltage#p196314

I am trying a product called Sharkhide on the aluminum rims on my old F250. I stripped the clear coat wiped on the Sharkhide. It goes on almost like water. The company claims it will last about a year on things exposed to the elements. So far my rims are still looking great on a truck that is exposed to the elements every day here in Ohio. I only clean with soap and water no wheel cleaner. https://sharkhidestore.com/

I need some new files for metal; what to buy? SOLVED!
kuhner replied to Gary_Ash's topic in General Discussion
Simonds Industries used to make files just up the road from me. They shut down and moved out of country in 2006. Was the old Heller file company, started around the turn of the 20th century. Lots of folks worked there especially in the 40s. -
In the past, Volkswagen of America sponsored a meet at Auburn Hills. When they announced they would be producing the new Beetle they rolled the full size clay model out. They would carve a piece of clay off for anyone who wanted it. I think my piece is still around here some place.
