  1. Whattya think about ebay # 4604069937? It's a '42 Buick for sale here in Minnesota (not mine). Don't see too many of these; just how rare are they? Anyone out there have one? I assume the mechanicals are basically the same as a '40/41? Just curious if anyone knew much about them since you don't see these every day! JF in WARM Minnesota (36 degrees today!)
  2. Nice lookin' kid's car.. just curious, they arent making these stateside are they? It would be nice, but I assume in keeping with the usual US business these days, they are being made in a "LCCM" (low cost country manufacturing)?
  3. Hey, where is this auction? I live in Lakeville, and I havent seen anything on this yet.. I would like to go and check it out! Thanks! JF
  4. Thanks to you both for your answers on the nailhead.. good info to know!! JF
  5. Hello all.. just curious if anyone knew anything about a website or user group interested in the AMC Sportabout wagon version of the Hornet? We had one of these in our family years ago, and it was a great car. I have not seen anything on these for sale on ebay or in Hemmings or on any discussion pages or anything, so I was just curious of anyone knew of any good resource sites for these cars? I would be interested in picking one of these up some day.. Thanks for your help! JF in Minnesota
  6. Hello all.. Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, but I have a newbie question. I have seen a lot of references on old Buicks for sale on ebay, as well as this forum, to the Buick "nailhead" V8. I am just curious, why is it called a "nailhead"? What years/models was this engine offered on? Again, please forgive my ignorance, but I keep seeing the nailhead name and I would like to clear this up for peace of mind...
  7. wow.. you had me going-- I saw your ad on the subject line, and for a second I thought it might be the station wagon version of the Hornet, the Sportabout! My dad used to have one of those, and for some reason, I thought those things were the greatest thing since sliced bread. You just don't see ANY around anymore! Anyhow, your car is nice too.. just not a Sportabout I guess!
  8. Just my thoughts-- leave out the flashy stuff! If I want flashy graphics and canned music, I'll go to my local radio station website or to mtv.com or some crap like that. I come to the AACA website because I want to learn more about old cars, and see what people have to say about them! I presently do not own an antique car, but I hope to one day. By reading this website, and following the links to the various collector groups, and reading the forums, it has been extremely helpful for me to learn. The website as-is is fine; some of the improvements you mentioned would be nice, but please don't turn this website in to some modern, flashy/ techno-crammed monster. Me and my future as-yet-unnamed and not-yet-located 1930's Buick thank you! Have a great New Years weekend/ JF in Minnesota
  9. I am not an AACA member, but depending where the car is around town, I may be able to help you out. What were you lookin' for? Email me at jkfritze@hotmail.com with details if you wish.
  10. Hello! Looking for an owner's manual and/or service manual for a 1939 Buick, preferably covering the Series 40. Prefer original, but may be willing to take a reprint. Drop me an email at jkfritze@hotmail.com if you might know where I can get something like this at a decent price. Thanks! -JF in the Land of 10,000 Lakes
  11. What about Minnesota? I can't believe that no one from the Gopher State Buick Club put in for this meet.. You can't beat Minnesota in Spring/Summer.. temps mostly in the 80's, sunny summer skies, and no tollroads! You can meet and schmooze with Buick owners, and then hop over to a local lake and get in some good fishing or swimming.. there's lots of good camping and hotel space around, and there are plenty of good venues for the meet itself like the State Fairgrounds and various other locations.. oh well-- perhaps I am just biased because I am from Minnesota!
  12. Hello all/ I am interested in a 1939 Buick Special (Series 40, 4-door)locally, and am curious about the value. I have looked at several over the last year or two either on-line and in person, but not being anywhere near an expert, I am wondering what a fair price to pay for this car is. It has an all-original interior that has upholstery in fair condition and free from tears; only a knob on the dash and a door lock knob are missing. The only non-original add inside is an aftermarket radio, with a speaker installed on each side of the car on the wall in front of the front seat. The car drives excellent-- it shifts smoothly, brakes well, and doesnt pull to either side or have any nasty habits. The engine is original, and has a recently rebuilt head (the engine was repainted black and grey, and does not include the "Fireball" markings). It also has a new master cylinder and a few other items. (the present owner is a mechanic who owns his own shop). The paint is not original, and is not show-quality, but is presentable. It is free of rust. Glass appears original, with a small pockmark in the front right windshield. I would rate this as a number 3 car. The most recent copy of the Standard Catalog of Buick would say this is worth about 8000; does this seem to still be a fair assumption? Any input is appreciated! JF
  13. Can you check your email address? For some reason it was coming up "could not deliver".. not sure if it was a typo, or if my Hotmail is in-op again.. JF
  14. The values posted by the other members to your question are accurate. The very fact that you have a rust-free Dart is a rare thing these days! I have owned 3 Plymouth Valiants in my time (same thing as a Dart basically), and all have suffered from the cancer that plagues the make-- rust! I could have driven my '75 forever had the frame not rotted out from under her. The engine would have run forever! The Chrysler slant 6 is one of the most bulletproof engines ever made. If I were you, I would keep your Dart and take care of it rather than selling it.. A good one like yours will only appreciate in value if you take care of it, and it will be a nice conversation piece if nothing else.. my 2 cents' worth..
