  1. Joan & Octie, I have only just read your note on the parts wanted for your S2, and have checked out my genuine 1936 Desoto parts listings and offer the following information which may help you. 1. The wheels that you need are part numbered 652967 and they are the same wheel that is used on the Chrysler C8 of 1936 (Chrysler Airstream) and the hubcaps for your S2 are part number 652932 for both the front and the rear wheels.I do not believe that they are different on the front compared to the rear. The wheels from the S1 and C7 chrysler are the same part number but are different than the S2 and the hubcaps from the S1 are different than those on your S2. Incidentally there apparently was a number of different wheels for export only and they were wheels with either a painted or primed rim and chrome spokes and even a chromed wheel complete. As I live in Australia I vaguely remember seeing a chromed Airflow rim years ago and thought it had been plated by an after market plater, maybe I was wrong and it was done ex factory. 2.I have made a number of rear quarter vent windows out of a brass section for the Airflow and will be doing a few sets for another Club member in the not too distant future but I guess that you wont be needing them for a while so this may give me time to set up to do them again. More on that later. Regards John Spinks
  2. To the person that placed this request for information on the Airstram tailight. I went to a lot of trouble to source information that you needed to identify the tailight so is it at all possible for you to respond to my comments as they are floating around in cyber space (a vacuum, so to speak) at the moment. It would be interesting to have confirmation that you at least received the message. Regards John Arthur
  3. Jim, I have just noted your request for information re the 42 windsor fluid drive fluid. I writing from Australia and have found what you want in my service books as I did own a 42 Windsor many years ago. I assume that being a '42, the engine is a C34, and the oil in the fluid drive should be SAE 20W oil plus 10% sulphur saponifiable base. Exactly what all that means may require you to call your local oil company and ask for the Technical Department and quote the above and I have no doubt that they can decode it for you. I hope this info helps but I must put a disclaimer on the accuracy as I am only quoting from a book and they have been known to be wrong before. Best of luck and let me know if you resolve it. Regards John A
  4. Sirs & Ladies, I own a 1936 Chrysler Airflow Coupe model C9. I live in Australia and have been progressively restoring the coupe and have the following question for someone to answer. The parts books that I have for Chrysler indicate that the straight 8 crankshaft for this engine should be embossed with the numbers 618623 however I have only found the numbers 618624 on what I believe is the original crank and also on a spare that I have as well. Furthermore I also have another crank with the numbers 618620 on it. Can anyone help me with the model that both of these cranks come from as well as main and conrod bearings around 0.020" undersize to fit. Regards John Spinks
  5. The part is listed in my 1936 Desoto parts list as a "Tail lamp (auxiliary) service package. Deluxa 4 door Tour. Sedan (up to 6051396 on L.H.D. and used on all R.H.D.) bracket right (black). It is also the same part number for the Deluxe 4 door Tour.Sedan (after 6051396 on L.H.D. only) The Model that it is from is a S1 Desoto Airstream Regards John Spinks
  6. To all enthusiasts of the Airflow. I am currently restoring a C9 Coupe and have discovered that the crankshafts that I have are embossed with the numbers 618624 and these numbers don't match up with the numbers listed in the master parts list for Chrysler passenger cars from 1936 to 1942 issued in July 1947. This book quotes the number for the crank as 618623. I believe that the crank that I have was out of my fathers CV Coupe but am not sure. I also believe that it is the long stroke item at 4.875 inches. I also have a crank which is embossed with the numbers 618620 and I believe that it is the shorter stroke version at 4.50 inches from a CU. Further to this I am chasing the rear main oil seal for the crank on the C9 and my books tell me that it is part number 304744. It also lists the rear main seal complete with the seal retainer as part number 308354. A complete kit comes up with part number 891456. Does anyone know where I can purchase the seals as well as the information on the origin of the cranks that I have as well as confirmation on what should be in the Coupe. Regards to all
