  1. I have had this sign hanging in my garage for 30 years. It says "A-1" and doesn't have a manufacturer's name on it but I have been told this is a sign for a Used Car lot, possibly Ford. The neon tubing is all in tact and the sign is nice expect for a slight wrinkle near the tip on the left side. Is this something Ford might have used at one time to sell Used Cars?
  2. I checked with the shop and we believe mine is definitely a 1937 Hood Ornament. The wing is die cast and an integral part of the body and the design looks identical to the pictures of a 1937 Packard hood ornament. The head definitely has a 1" to 1.5" taped extension protruding from the bottom side of the head and the body definitely has a cavity with splines. Not sure what to think.
  3. The puzzling part is once I remove some of the material so the protruding portion below the head fits down into the body, how does the head stay there. What holds it in place? Must be something I don't understand about how it was originally attached at the factory.
  4. I will look but I didn't see a threaded hole in the part that protrudes from the bottom of the head. The part that protrudes from the bottom is tapered and the inside of the body looks like it had splines. I wonder if the 39 and 37 designs are the same. A press fit doesn't seem right for die cast. I am hopeful someone has a 37 hood ornament that would verify the assembly process. Thanks.
  5. Has anyone ever had to re-assemble their 37 Packard Goddess of Speed with wings hood ornament. I sent mine out to a chrome shop who did a beautiful job chrome plating it. The dilemma I have is they disassembled it into 3 parts when they plated it. Fitting the body to the base seems straight forward and fits nicely. The problem is the head is separate and looks like it should be pressed into the body but looking at how thin the wall is around the cavity where the head is pressed in to makes me nervous. Because it is old and it is die cast, I can see it cracking or a piece breaking out. Since I already have $950 invested in it, I am more than a little nervous about the process of pressing it in since it appears to be a tight fit. Has anyone done this before? Any ideas? Thanks!!

  7. I was reading about all of the interesting toys being collected by fellow toy collectors. I tend to favor the 20's through 50's toys and thought I might share one that I have grown quite fond of because it is an unmolested original as far as I know and I am the second owner. It is a 1925-26, not sure which year for sure, Cadillac Pedal Car which has not been restored. I would classify it as a "Survivor". It has a 2-speed shaft drive versus a chain drive. The top and spare tire cover are also original. I thought they also did a nice job with the dashboard detailing. A few photos attached below. .

  9. As I have been working on my 37 Packard 120 restoration, I have found some differences between the car I am restoring and another 37 Packard 120 donor car that was in a major wreck. One of the differences is the carb and air cleaner. The donor car came with Stromberg Carb and tall air cleaner with brace to support it. The car I am restoring has a Carter WDO Carb and a rather flat air cleaner. Were these differences because one of them was standard and the other was optional or was this another one of Packard's mid year changes? I have been told that it is rarer to see the Carter WDO Carb than the Stromberg. I also noticed the tall air cleaner will not work with the Carter WDO because it lacks an indentation on the bottom side of the air cleaner. Attached are a few photos of what I have. Have others run into these differences? The top half of the fuel pump looks to be a vacuum pump which I assume is for the windshield wipers. Does anyone have a photo showing how it should be plumbed? What is the correct path from the fuel pump to the fire wall? Is it copper tubing all the way or is some part of it rubber hose? Thanks, Bob

  15. I checked and no channel. I did have another 37 Packard Convertible owner contact me and say his car does not have a seal so I am assuming mine didn't either. I know my early 30's Buicks do not have seals and all seems well. Thanks for everyone's help. Great bunch of Packard folks out there always willing to help. Now if I can only find the few missing parts I need I might still be able to take it to this Summer's Packard National Meet.
  16. I am looking for a pair of Door Lock Strikers for my 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe. I have access to a 37 Packard 120 Sedan donor car but the door lock strikers on the sedan are wider than the convertible coupe. The convertible has a narrower version. The current door lock strikers are made of sheet metal and molded rubber. The sheet metal is pretty much destroyed. Thanks for your help and the help of all those good car persons who have helped me get this far with my car. Body is back on the frame. I still need the running boards and some other inner fender panels but I am making progress. My goal was to have the car ready to take to the Packard National Meet in June but that is not looking so good if I can't find the few remaining parts I need. Thanks. Bob Pint4@new.rr.com

  18. I am looking for a door seal for a 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe that does not require metal clips to install it because there are no holes in my car for the metal clips. I am assuming the original door gaskets were glued in place rather than held in place with clips. Steele sells door seals but theirs requires the metal clips. Has anyone else run into this situation?   20. I am looking for door sill plates for a 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe-both sides. I am not sure if coupe door sill plates are the same or not and also don't know if 1935 or 1936 Packard 120 door sill plates will interchange. Originals, if in nice condition, would be my first choice but well done reproductions would also be fine. Are there companies our there who make reproduction sill plates for Packard 120's?   22. I have been on the Packard website but have not had much success. Maybe it is because I am looking for parts for a Packard 120 from the 35-37 era. I thought there were a lot of them built but maybe few survived. That said, I think there are some parts out there and it is just a matter of finding them. Most likely in the attic of a garage sitting up in the rafters collecting dust and the owner has forgotten they are even there. I would like to drive the car to the Packard National Meet in Michigan in June of next year but with each passing day, that hope dims a bit more. In the meantime, the search goes on. Thank you for your suggestion.
