  1. Looks like a few more parts were in worst condition than I thought they were on my 37 Packard 120. I am looking for the following parts in very good to excellent condition, a little surface rust but solid and no rust through or thin spots anywhere.

I am restoring a 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe and am looking for the following parts:

    Running boards-both sides

Splash pans that sit next to the engine (sit down low) Not the inner fender sheet metal.

    Tail light-Passenger side

    Trunk and rumble seat handles

If you do not have the parts, I would appreciate it if anyone could steer me in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  2. Well, my 37 Packard 120 is now in what seems like a thousand pieces. You learn a lot about the car when it is completely disassembled down to the last nut bolt. One also quickly finds out what they don't know.

Running boards-Rusted so I am looking for a nice set of running boards. I plan to re-cover them so the metal is most important to be in great shape.

Trunk rack-I have a rack but no hardware. Does anyone have a source for the parts-original or reproduction? I am also looking for extended bumper bars that are needed to accommodate the trunk rack. I heard someone was reproducing them but not sure who that might be.

Another trunk rack related question-Is the rear bumper itself the same whether or not the car has a trunk rack with only difference being the different length bumper bars supports?

Horns-Are the horns mounted on a bracket attached to the top of the engine?

Best place to send shocks to be rebuilt? Or buy new ones?

And a color question-Was there a paint color in 1937 called "Packard Red"? I have seen 37 Packards painted red and they call it "Packard Red" but I don't see it on the list of available colors. Dar Kuehl's reference book has a 120 Packard on the cover that looks like it is red. Is it "Packard Red"?

I am hopeful there are Packard folks on this forum that can help me or at least point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

  3. Joe,

Thanks for the photos. Wow-what a beautiful interior. I love the color. I can only imagine how nice the rest of the car must be. We are still in the process of removing the body from the frame so it will be some time before we actually start on the interior. The interior shop has a long list of jobs ahead of me. I am wondering about a couple of things. Are the door panels done in leather? Some people tell me the original door panels were leather and other say they were vinyl because only Senior cars had leather door panels. What were the original ones you removed when your replaced your interior?

I know this is a big favor to ask bit would it be possible to obtain the dimensions (sketch with dimensions) for the stitching pattern and location of the buttons?

My email address is: pint4@new.rr.com. I live in Wisconsin and there doesn't seem to be a lot of 120's in this area of the country.

I can't begin to express my appreciation for your help. It has been a bit of a challenge locating folks who have 35-36-37 Packard 120's to ask questions about the car so I can remain as original as possible.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  4. I ordered the Darvin Kuehl book off Amazon.com per Mal's recommendation. Thanks for the lead. I am looking forward to receiving it. I am still wondering about the door panel material. The seats I am told were leather but there seems to be a difference of opinion about the door panels. I am told the material was vinyl on the 120's and on the Senior series they used leather. Wondering if anyone would be able to authenticate what would be correct for the 120. I am also looking for someone who might have photos of the original stitching/design for the door panels and seats, front and rumble seat. My email address is: pint4@new.rr.com

    Thanks,

    Bob

  5. I am looking for the following information regarding my 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe beginning restoration as I attempt to keep it as original in appearance as possible.

Interior-What is the correct material for the door panels? Front Seat? Rumble seat? Does anyone have any detailed photos they can send me showing the stitch for the door panels and seats?

Does any make a correct interior kit for a 37 Packard 120 convertible coupe?

Does any make a correct Hartz cloth convertible top kit for a 37 Packard 120 convertible coupe?

    Repro hubcaps?

Book-I was told there as a 1937 Packard 120 book detailing how to restore a 120? Where might I locate a copy?

    My email address is: pint4@new.rr.com

    Thanks,

    Bob

  6. I have a 1937 Packard 120 and am in the process of swapping the engine with another out of donor 1937 Packard 120. Is this going to cause me problems with my title? Thee is a number on the engine that I believe is the VIN number. That goes away when I swap engines. Is the VIN number located anywhere else on the car, frame, body, etc.? Someone told me it was only on the engine block?

    Thanks!!

  7. Would anyone know if the Buick Historical Archives has parts drawings? I am looking for a drawing for the 1933 Buick Series 60 3 pc. exhaust manifold-both the casting drawing and the finished part drawing. I have heard there is an extensive amount of old information in an archived library in Flint. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Bob Feel free to email me at pint4@new.rr.com. If not available, I may have to resort to making a 3-D copy from someone existing manifold. Would be easier if could go the drawing route.

  8. Restorer32,

You are more advanced in your knowledge of these kinds of things than I am. What does it mean to lathe out stainless steel rivets. Second question, what does one do to hold them in place and have a finished appearance. Do they get upset like normal rivets? I may have to send them to someone to have the rivets installed but I am not even sure as to what I should ask them to do. Over the years, I have sent out things to have work done on them only to have the piece ruined by the shop doing the work. It has made me more cautious. I am guessing I will have only one chance to get these parts done right. They are hard to find. Thanks!

  9. I am working on a restoration plan for my 1937 Packard 120 Convertible. The convertible top mechanism inside is chrome plated and I would like to re-plate it during the restoration process while everything is disassembled. It looks like the pieces are joined using rivets that hold the mechanism together and serve as pivot points. Taking it apart appears to be straight forward, drill out the rivets and everything comes apart. Putting everything back together and having the top go up and down as designed looks like the challenge. Is there someone who has replaced their rivets and if so, how did you do it? In the end, I would like to have an operation top. Thanks!

  10. Thanks for the lead. I checked and it is $595. I am pleased someone is making the part because it is a common problem for many 33's. Has anyone purchased one yet? I ask the question because I am wondering about the fit. And wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should do to get a good fit the other two remaining pieces that fit up to the middle section, left and right. Next I would like to find a Stainless Steel exhaust system for 33 Buick Series 60. Thanks!

  11. I am looking for a flying lady hood ornament mascot and nice set of hubcaps for my 1933 Buick Model 68 Victoria Coupe. I also need an exhaust manifold, preferably not cracked or broken. If someone has other parts, I have an interest in some as replacement parts because things do wear out or break when a car is driven and used. My email address is: pint4@new.rr.com or phone 920-851-7062 and leave message as I am most likely out in the garage working on one of my Buicks. I also have a 1935 and 1962 Buick.

    Thanks!
