  1. I am looking for some information regarding the stainless steel trim molding that runs along side the running boards on the 1937 Packard 120's. What does the cross section of the original molding look like-smooth or ribbed? 3/4" or 1" wide? Length? Shape of ends-front and back? Wish I could find original replacements that are not dented or bent? Otherwise, does anyone make reproductions that look like the original design?

    Thanks!

  2. It does say there is a 3/8" thick layer of sound/heat reducing material? I think the ABS is to give it shape. I don't know much about ABS and it's properties. Could they have put in an additive to prevent the embrittlement? Lots of dollars if it doesn't work or worst yet doesn't look period correct.

  3. Has anyone installed one of these firewall pads in their Packard? Do they look original in appearance or do they need to be covered to provide an original appearance to the interior? I am thinking of buying one for my car to reduce the heat and noise? Would appreciate knowing what you thought about them.

    Thanks,

  5. I read through the comments when I visited the link and it appears the car is actually a 1939. The antenna used on the 1939 models may not have been an available option in 1937 so it may not be year correct. I was hoping for more definitive confirmation. the antenna is not listed in the accessories catalog for 1937. Couldn't find it listed as an option anywhere also. It is possible my antenna was added sometime after 1937 to improve reception.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  6. I assumed there was a factory radio antenna option for 1937 Packard 120's. Can anyone tell me where the radio antenna was mounted and what it looked like. I am restoring a 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe and it currently has an antenna mounted on the driver's side right in front of the driver's door. Two rather large holes in the body panel where it is mounted and I need to fill them in now that the body sheet metal is being worked on if there was not supposed to be an antenna mounted there. For all I know, the antenna may be aftermarket or original but I have nothing to compare it to. A photo or description of what the original looks like would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  7. I am in the midst of my restoration and I still haven't settled on the color. Not a good place to be because soon it will be time to paint it. I have been leaning toward a color that might best be described as a deep dark red, burgundy, wine, etc. None of the colors available in 37 for the Packard 120 match up with what I had in mind. One color that might be close is L-131 but without a paint chip it is hard to say. I also found some photos on the net that might be close to the color I am looking for but would need help identifying the color. A few such examples.post-31850-143142913296_thumb.jpg

  8. I am in the midst of the restoration of a 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe and need some input regarding suggestions for restoring the banjo steering wheel. Is there someone who specializes in the restoration of these more complex steering wheels or are there restored ones for sale? I am guessing no one reproduces them. Looks like the steering wheel has to be disassembled and is made of multiple materials. Sort of unfortunate because the wheel doesn't have any cracks but the chrome isn't the best. Thanks for your input and suggestions.

  9. I am working on a 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe and need help with the chrome mechanism restoration. Will even consider stainless steel repro mechanism if available. Noticed in the picture above that this vendor restores/reproduces convertible top mechanisms. Would anyone know who the person/company is in the pic and an email address or phone number to contact them to find out more about their restoration services. Thanks. My email address is pint4@new.rr.com.

  10. As my 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coup has come apart, the bags of nuts, bolts, and washers have multiplied daily. Most are not in the best condition. Plan to replace all if possible. As I started the process of identifying each one, I thought I should ask the forum if anyone already had a list of all of the sizes and quantities needed for the nuts, bolts, and washers left from when they did their restoration. The other thought was to ask if anyone sold a nuts, bolts, and washers kits with the needed fasteners. If not, I will continue to sort through the bags of rusty and oily fasteners.

    Thanks!

  11. A technical question for those that have been through the restoration process. Restoring a 37 Packard 120. Any recommendations for the replacement fasteners-zinc coated grade 5 or grade 8 fasteners for everything or Stainless Steel fasteners. Thanks-Bob

  12. A friend sent me an excerpt from the 35-37 Packard 120 restoration reference book which states the chassis paint is semi-gloss. Now I wonder if Packard might have done it both ways depending on the year, 35, 36, or 37, or customer preference.

  13. Thank you for the feedback. I am trying to do things right so I don't have to disassemble the car again in two or 3 years because I used the wrong paint and it starts to peel or discolor due to heat. I plan to drive the car and put some miles on it. I am sure I will get some things wrong but hopefully I can minimize them. I appreciate the input from those that have traveled this road. The sharing of your knowledge and suggestions is very much appreciated.

  14. My engine and transmission from my 37 Packard 120 are close to being ready for paint. I have a few questions. What is the correct color and is there a paint code? What is the best paint to use? Looking for something that can withstand heat and won't flake off in a couple of years. Any suggestions? I would like it to look good years down the road and I know engines get hot.

    Thanks,

    Bob
