  1. Does anyone know of any 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe owners who have either kept their car original or have faithful restorations that are the same or very close to factory original.  I am getting to end of my restoration and have questions regarding the top and interior as well as the inside of the trunk and rumble seat area.  If you or they send me a message, I can provide my email address or phone number to them.

I am also looking for some additional input and opinions regarding the pros and cons of having a rear window that can be opened.  I have seen rear windows on convertible coupes that open.  I am guessing they must have zippers on both sides and some way to attach them along the top edge.  One person told me to expect the window if it is capable of opening to be be noisy and leak when in a rain storm or washing the car.

Does anyone make original rubber mats for the rumble seat area or the trunk or even for the front passenger cabin?

    Thanks.

  2. Auburn,

Thanks for the advice.  It would be nice if the cover with the screw holes was similar so I don't have to drill new holes.  I will watch Ebay.  Another person locally suggested running ads in Hemmings and Old Cars Weekly.  All good suggestions.  It is not like I need the handle tomorrow.  Over the Winter, I will continue to look and maybe attend some auctions coming up that have boatloads of old car parts.  As I have played in this car hobby over the years, I have gone a year or two without finding a part I was looking for and then suddenly I find several.  With the internet, the word rare has been redefined.

  3. I am looking for a supplier who for sure sells an exhaust system for a 1933 Buick Series 60.  I am looking for muffler and pipes front to back.  Seems like there are muffler shops that sell a wide variety of exhaust systems for vintage cars but don't have anything for 1933 Buick.  I have contacted suppliers who sell a whole boatload of exhaust systems but don't seem to think there is enough demand for a 1933 Buick Series 60 car.  I would like to drive this car next Summer that I was told sat in storage from the mid-60's until I bought it a few years ago. Sort of what some people call a barn find car.  I am leaning to leaving it in its original condition other than doing what I need to do to make it safe to drive including replacing the wiring that is disintegrating and fixing the exhaust system.   Hopefully I will get the name of someone who has the parts I need.  Thanks.

  4. I am looking for 1 or 2 amber lenses for Lorraine Fog Lights.  These are lenses with no line or pattern in the glass. I estimate the lens is 5-6" in diameter.  I believe these fog lights were used in the 1930's, possibly mid to later 30's as the are smaller than the Trippe lights from the early 30's.  My email address is pint4@new.rr.com.  Thanks.

  5. I am looking for 1937 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe factory photos to use as a reference for the new top and interior for my car under restoration.  Please email them to me at pint4@new.rr.com.  Thanks.  If anyone has restored  a 37 Packard 120 Convertible Coupe and can email me detailed photos of the top from all sides inside and outside, that would be helpful.  Also need boot dimensions and size and locations of snaps as well as the type of snaps used. If you have hidden the snaps on the front side of the top near the windshield, where exactly did you put them. Also wondering if anyone has wrapped the crossbows on their top similar to what more expensive cars do to give the top a more finished appearance on the inside.

    Thanks for your help.

  6. I have been told that the 6 volt Halogen bulbs consumer 9 amps each and the 18 amps will consume most of the generator capacity leaving little else for the other bulbs, radio, etc.   Does anyone make a LED headlight bulb that would be a direct replacement for a 2331 tungsten bulb?

  7. Does anyone by chance have the names of any suppliers who sell replacement 6 volt headlamp bulbs that are Halogen or LED.  If anyone has any experience with either one and has an opinion, I would appreciate your input before I purchase any bulbs for my car.  My original bulb is a 6 volt 2330L.

    Thanks.

  8. The original headlamps on my car were 6 volt 2330L bulbs.   I am looking to replace them with Halogen or LED 6 volt replacement bulbs.  Has any one done this upgrade and which did you try, LED or Halogen?  Was there an appreciable difference?  I want to be able to drive my car so I am looking for something better than the original Tungsten filament bulbs.  I am also looking for the names of a couple of different sources for purchasing both the LED and Halogen bulbs.  Would like to be able to compare prices.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  9. Owen,

I brought the generator and voltage regulator to the shop that rebuilt it and had them test it.  They said both generator and voltage regulator tested good.  Wouldn't they have noticed the grounded field problem when they did their test?

    Thanks,

    Bob

  10. I am trying to trouble shoot a problem with the electrical charging system on my 37 Packard 120 with Autolite voltage regulator and generator.  My gauge on the dash  is pegged out showing I am charging at maximum.  I had the generator and regulator both taken to a local automotive generator rebuilder shop and they said both checked out good.  Any ideas as to what to try next?  The generator has been rebuilt and the wiring in the car has a new harness from Wiring Unlimited.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  12. I called John and he does not have the voltage regulator I need.  thanks for the lead.  I enjoyed talking with him about cars in general and Packards and Pierce Arrows.  I have another idea regarding my search.  Doe anyone have one of those cross reference guides that might list various aftermarket voltage regulators made by other companies that would interchange with the 6 volt Autolite VRD-4005 A.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  13. Thanks, I will check with them.   I now have some additional inf.  I visited the Packard Motor Car Information website and found the following info.  It says for 1937 Packard 120C-120CA-120CD--138CD-115C, the correct voltage regulator is a Autolite VRD-4005A.  For 1937 Packard 1601-1A-1D-2-1700-1-1A-2, the correct voltage regulators are Autolite VRD-4001A and VRD-4001A.  So I guess I am looking for a Autolite VRD-4005A voltage regulator.  Hope this helps narrow down the search.  Thanks, Bob
